June 25, 2019 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 64 degrees. Definitely a sticky night especially up in my bedroom. I could turn on the fan but I kind of like the heat and figure I’ll sleep soundly a bit warm plus I don’t like how the fan consumes some 60 watts an hour on high. 💮

I voted and went over to John Wolcott’s house this afternoon for a while to dig through his history files. 📂 Some real gems I found in his collection that I posted on my personal Facebook. 💎 As far as the election goes, I honestly didn’t know much about candidates I was voting for so as I noted earlier I just choose the candidates I knew the least about. Judge primaries and even the comptroller primary are kind of silly – I don’t get involved in politics much anymore and I’m not planning on living in New York forever so what does it matter to me? Still I think voting is important. ☑

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9pm. West wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 33% illuminated. The moon will rise at 1:36 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with scattered t-storms then partly cloudy skies. The Buck Moon 🌝 is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 21 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, an increase of 19 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9am. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1952. Going to be a hot summer day.

Tomorrow assuming that I get an early enough start ⏰ I’m going to get my hair cut 💈 and drop off my blazers and overcoats for dry cleaning so they are ready to go for next year. I’m hoping I won’t have to wear them until then but who knows. I sometimes get invited events.

Still have to watch for showers and thunderstorm this weekend. ⚡ Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. I’m leaning against going to Schoharie this weekend but I could change my mind. I could also tent or hammock camp ⛺ locally for a night.

I decided to reassemble my camp stove later this week 🍳 after a good cleaning. I looked at ordering a replacement burner but the only place I could find parts was direct from Camp Chef and they wanted $20 for the part plus $9 shipping plus tax. I’m hoping a good cleaning will work. The burner part that is rusted shouldn’t be leaking gas below 🔥 I think it just needs a good cleaning. I could try fire place cement on it too. Or just order the part. Annoying how after only three years of use it’s acting up. I want to see if I can get some degreaser for the case. As far as the melted section of the table I think I’m going to patch with all purpose bondo and see how it goes. Might also melt or expoxy some plastic from a milk bottle over it to seal things. Doesn’t have to be perfect. 👌 I can always use a table cloth or my better table at events when I have other people along.

In four weeks on July 23 the sun will be setting at 8:24 pm,🌄 which is 12 minutes and 27 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 85 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆 is in 3 weeks, Constitution Day 📜 is in 12 weeks, More Night then Day 🌌 is in 3 months, October 🛥 is in 14 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 71 weeks.

Well informed Voter

I didn’t know who to vote for in the primary. So I voted for the candidates I had never heard of before, had no lawn signs and sent no mail. I like voting for dark horses.

RAM PUMP – IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!

A ram pump is simply a boost converter for water, although I guess a boost converter came after the ram pump. But regardless, it's a pretty neat technology for pumping water uphill.

The Rise Of The Blue-Collar Noncompete : Planet Money : NPR

Workers in sales jobs, or those who have access to a company's trade secrets, are often asked to sign noncompete clauses as part of their employment contracts. By signing noncompetes, employees often agree — in the event they quit or are terminated — not to go and work for a competitor for a certain period of time. That way the company is protected from having the employee take intellectual property — like client lists, proprietary corporate processes, or other secret sauces — to a competitor.

Noncompetes are common in industries like banking and insurance, and they often feature in employment agreements for managers and other white-collar professionals. But as the labor market has tightened over the last few years, noncompetes are starting to show up, and to be enforced, in the contracts of all kinds of blue-collar workers, from heavy equipment operators to hairdressers.
