Interstates Aren’t Unique

Many people think that each Interstate in America gets a unique number for the whole country. That is true within a state and within same region of the country, but nationally, some interstate numbers are reused.

Interstate 86 is both the number for the Southern Tier Expressway in New York and the I-84/I-15 connector in Idaho.

Interstate 88 is both the number for the Warren Anderson Expressway in New York and the Ronald Reagan Tollway in Illinois.

State DOT generally avoid having an interstate road overlap or cross with a similarly numbered US, state, or county highway — to avoid confusion.

Within New York there is one state highway (NY Route 90 in the Finger Lakes) that crosses the NY Thruway (I-90). There is no interchange between the two highways, and this is the only time within New York when this happens.

Good morning, Happy Tuesday. A fairly mild morning before we get the next batch of inclement weather. It’s going to be warmer tomorrow do its expected to be a mixed bag of snow, ice, and rain.

Kind of sucks that I have a early morning appointment tomorrow so between the expected bad weather and traffic delays due to the charter school rally, I’m going to have to get up earlier and catch an earlier bus downtown.

One day closer to spring and tomorrow we might see weather in the mid 40s. It will be a nice respite from the cold weather of lately. I think it will be the first time this year its been this warm.

While this winter has been mostly snowless in Albany It certainly has been a cold one by Albany standards. I wouldn’t mind the cold as much if they didn’t spread so much salt on the roads in their winter satanic practice.
