βThe car has made our cities uninhabitable. It is also the best way to escape them. Hurry and take the road to the roadless area, because it wonβt be roadless long. Too much demand. The gas pump doesnβt know the beauty which it helped to see; and so the gas tax comes pouring in the the pavement comes pouring out. And so we push that Big Wheel nearer the edge. The land of the free and the home of the auto dump. But man was born to wander.β
Iβm increasingly worried about a nuclear melt down or a nuclear bomb explosion. I think it will be particularly bad as the president and his appointees will down play it while others will call out his lies while exaggerating the threat to the extreme and lead to an over reaction in many cases while the scientists who actually could measure and analyze the impacts and give science based answers are all fired from the government or muzzled.
I really do not like riding on all that ice and snow on the rail trail as it makes for a rough surface. Apparently while Albany County has tons of money for artwork and cameras along the trail, plowing is not in the budget. But soon it should be good, especially if we get half or more an inch of rain tomorrow and temperatures are in the 50s.
I wanted to be in the office by 8 AM today both so I could get reports run and build up some comp time for work. Truth is with all the new initiatives Iβve been working on I am always swamped at work. Always new things to move forward, new data to obtain and enhance. Busy, busy, busy.
Blueberry pancakes this morning. Homemade as always using whole-wheat flour, oatmeal, milk, egg, some stevia and baking powder. Truth is now that Iβve gotten into only eating whole-wheat flour, the idea of white flour kind of abhors me. I like my food to have a lot of flavor and texture. I forgot to get carrots while shopping yesterday, so no carrots in the pancakes this morning.
It is getting nicer riding in as bike trail has less and less snow. I just donβt like the rough ice. It beats the heck out of my bike, my lunch and Iβve not been bringing my laptop with me as I donβt want that to get that beat too. Most things I can do on my state computer, but I like my laptop for listening to music and checking my personal email. Now Iβm just waiting for less cold so I can start spending weekends up in wilderness.
Thatβs the question of the day over at WordPress.com. I figured I would briefly discuss why I enjoy my job.
First and foremost, work has to be about money. Itβs not work if your not getting paid for what you. While pay isnβt the only consideration in life, a good paycheck and benefits can go a long ways to make even the most awful job not so awful, especially when you clock out for the day.
Second, work should be meaningful. I enjoy delivering results for my clients, the look on both their face and my face when I deliver a quality product.
Third, Iβve gotten to like not working downtown. Itβs so much quieter working up in Menands, without the craziness of downtown and politics. The dress code is casual, the hours regular and predictable. Parking is easy should I choose to drive in, or itβs not bad biking in either.
Fourth, I like working with others to solve problems. Some of the best times at work are reaching out to others, discussing the issues in front of you, finding solutions by working with others who have expertise in their part of the business.
Fifth, I enjoy coming up with solutions to problems using automation and technical skills, often with real creative thought and effort. Itβs fun to come up with time saving solutions and play with code and commands to fix real world problems in the business.
Ten degrees according to the app on my phone this morning. I wasnβt going to ride in but I had work to do and wanted to get in earlier then the early shuttle, and it wasnβt like I was that willing to fire up Big Red to get into the office early.
Coffee is much better when youβve abstained for a few days, though I didnβt get milk to put in the coffee as I figure Iβll get it this evening Iβll get milk at the grocery store. I used to be a die-hard consumer of milk from Stewartsβ as I liked supporting local dairies in Saratoga and Washington Counties but lately Iβve just been getting it from the grocery store, as most of it comes from the milk plant in East Greenbush and is still locally sourced, in part to save a few dimes. I know itβs kind of silly one way or another, but Iβve not noticed that much difference in taste. Plus, itβs just one trip. Iβve also been putting off getting milk, as Iβm tired of all those plastic milk jugs accumulating in the trash, as I havenβt been to my parents house or transfer station to drop off milk bottles nor have I had any fires lately. I do miss summer.
I wonβt say it was the most physically active weekend, as Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday was bitterly cold with the wind but Iβm hopeful now with the improved spring weather I will be able to ride in more. I am definitely looking forward to the bike trail being free of ice, I hate the bump-bump of the rough ice and the necessary speed reductions. Of course, it will probably also mean more drinking beer and smoking pot up in wilderness, but also all that fresh produce that is cheap and plentiful come summer. I used to walk out in the cold all of the time, but nowadays the cold bothers me more, indeed my hands were swollen and cold by the time I got in to the office after riding this morning, despite the warm gloves mom got me, and the lack of wind. It just was only 10 degrees. Iβm ready for spring, if I havenβt mentioned that enough.
