Camping at Perkins Clearing on September 28, 2024
Camping at Perkins Clearing on a foggy September morning. It was a fun weekend, I rode back to Pillsbury Mountain and hiked to the recently restored firetower, and also rode back to Pine Lake in former Gooley lands after attending the Indian Lake Moose Festival.
How worried should I be? π€·ββοΈ
Many people are worried about the indigestion that new President will cause while eating their TV dinner in the evening. Some obscure threat by the politicians rumbling in a city hundreds of miles away. But I worry more about my investments. The President-elect is unconventional, to say the least.
He has ideas, at least on the campaign trail, that seem to go against the conventional wisdom when it comes to trade and economy. Whether or not he will implement them when he’s surrounded by smart men and women in a room is another issue, but it’s still worrying, as many of his ideas could drive the economy straight-off the cliff. Kind of like it did in his first term, that is after a global pandemic overshadowed everything.
Only time will tell. And there isn’t much I can do about the President-elect, though I can restructure some of my investments and just ride the roller coast. Bulk up as they say.
The Dow Jones jumps over 1,300 points after Trump wins the election | WAMC
Wall Street investors are cheering former President Trump's return to the White House.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 1,300 points soon after the open, or more than 3%, just hours after Trump won the presidential election over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 both rose by more than 1.5% each in early morning trading.
Wall Street investors perceive Trump as more favorable to business interests, especially in terms of cutting taxes and regulations.
Magic Swirlin’ Ship
Take me for a trip upon your magic swirlin’ ship,
When my hands can’t feel to grip, and my toes too numb to step,
Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering.
I’m ready to go anywhere, I’m ready for today,
Untill my own parade cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.
The Rodeo Cowboy is back in Washington π€‘
We might of stemmed the bleeding in New York but it was a tough night. But I’m proud of our work, even though I have a million ideas on how to do the data side of things better in 2026. And I think it will be a lot of fun to run against Trump next cycle especially if his buffoonery causes a recession.
After a lot of Red Bull and coffee β I’m going to be in the office by nine o’clock, taking the express downtown and the shuttle up to Menands. I mean I’m not shocked as a careful student of the numbers but I also know if a few things were different or could have been different in the federal government. Maybe though it’s a time for state leadership to up their game. π I don’t think we’ll see much leadership on climate change on the federal government through 2028 not that an awful lot was happening. As I was advised this morning, take advantage of the solar tax credits before their gone. π I do wish I had got more of money in bonds and less in stock with the buffoon in chief, but I’m ready to ride the roller coaster, π’ and I know in the long run it will work out, plus there are deals to be scored when the market is down. The thing is to get out of stocks woud require a capital gains tax or a loss harvesting, but I don’t have much loss to harvest at this point. π€·
Just going to put in a full day of work today in the office, π©βπΌ then I will take off Thursday and Friday. I have a dentist appointment at 12:30 PM on Thursday, and then I’ll probably head out to Madison County fo the long weekend to camp and ride trail. I was going to go to Green Mountains but things are still so dry there and I think Vermont may still have a fire ban in the National Forest. π² Think either Friday or maybe Saturday, I’ll spend the balance of the day exploring more of Chittenago and Erie Canalway nearby along with Green Lakes State Park. ποΈ If I do have a fire, I will keep it small and after dark with lots of water handy, π₯ to make sure it’s fully out before bed. I thought about going to the Adirondacks but I think I want to wait until rifle season is done π¦ up north. I am tired, so tomorrow I’ll probably sleep in a bit and then pack, and head out of town around 1 or 2 PM so I’m at camp before dark. I should have plenty of food, but I need to look where I can get some pot before camping. I would like to explore a new dispensary, somewhere along the way. And maybe bacon π₯ from the Love of Bacon.
Camping at the Lost Pond Campsite at Charles Baker State Forest on October 21, 2024
Taking down camp, remote working, after a nice weekend up at Charles Pond at that campsite at Lost Pond which is really nice and quiet -- I think I saw all weekend just one dog walker and a hunter dirve by.
