I never realized how wet the deep south really is compared to New England. But I'm guessing that's due to the hurricanes that often strike in the Gulf of Mexico.

Average Annual Precipitation, 1961-1990
Between 1961 and 1990, the Tug Hill Plateau and Eastern Adirondacks averaged 65 inches of precipitation a year. This is the wettest part of the state.
