The day before Independence Day 2025 πŸŽ‡

While I did hit a bit rain – actually some pretty heavy rain on NY 334 – this July 3rd has been nice but really a bit too cold for swimming. Just sun but cool expected through Sunday.

I was at camp by 10 am and I got the House Pond Campsite πŸ•οΈ for the weekend, a fact I’m pretty happy about it. It’s so nice to be a short easy bike ride to the Potholers and have the swimming hole 🏊 across the road for floating and swimming. It also will nice to sit down by after dark and light off fireworks πŸŽ†.

Spent much of the day listening Sarah Jones’ Disposable about frontline workers πŸ‘· during the pandemic and reading πŸ“– a book about Organic Farming. Smoking grass and drinking PBR and eating fried zucchini with bacon πŸ₯“ and onions. And listening to some of the Grateful Dead and Country Joe and the Fish. 🐠 Yes, I’ve become a stoned hippie with a Don’t Tread on Me, Molon Labe and Pride Flag. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Topped off the coolant in my truck. πŸ›» I had noticed a while back it was low, but ever since I last changed the coolant I’ve smelled coolant every once and a while when I use the heater. Truck is getting old, and I blame myself for not getting the coolant done at least one more time a few years back. πŸ”§ Somehow it got overlooked. Wasn’t a big deal, took less then a cup of coolant to get it to the fill line, but with the hot weather expeected Sunday for driving home, I didn’t want to get low. Also topped off the oil, πŸ›’οΈ

In some ways with the cooler weather, I wish I had gone somewhere else in the Adirondacks not next to swimming hole. 🏊 Swimming will be great on Sunday, but today is too cold to swim, so I’ve stayed out of the water. I kind of have this idea that Independence Wild Forest would have been fun to go to this weekend, but alas I’m here. Trying to find some new, novel places to explore.

Just buy a house, it will be great 🏠

Your the Director. You make good money, you’ve saved and invested, you could buy a house with cash or get it at a good interest rate if you wanted the tax advantages of letting your money grow in the markets.

Don’t you know it’s foolish to pay rent. You’re just making your landlord rich, paying his mortgage. Renting is a temporary thing you do or what you do when you have no other options because you’re poor. Did I mention it’s foolish? Think of all the money you would be saving, paying the bank and establishing equity in your own home.

You’re in your mid forties but you’re still riding your mountain bike to work most days, except when you take the bus and transfer over to the shuttle. You know like the drunkards and the poor who don’t own cars. You’re spending your weekends in the wilderness, smoking pot, drinking beer and burning shit. Listening to shitty old music. Even when it’s cold and snowy as you hate living in the city.

But I really don’t want a suburban house. I hate lawns, I hate carpeting and vinyl siding. It would be such a waste of money to buy a structure I hate, costs a ton to heat and light and I wouldn’t bother even making the most minimal of repairs because I hate it and it’s all just garbage to me.

I want a small cabin up in the wilderness wherey I can shoot and own whatever hand and long guns I want without special government permission, burn whatever garbage I want and not waste my time washing out plastic bottles and tins cans for fake recycling, have pigs, goats and any other livestock I want, grow cannabis and other feed stuffs. I don’t mind shitting in a bucket, chopping wood or fiddling around with batteries and solar as that’s that I do half the year when I’m not back in my cesspool apartment in the city!

It will happen some day. Not that far in the future. I can see my net worth increasing and my years of experience paying off at work. After all, not everybody becomes a director. The financial experts say I am a fool but they are not me. They don’t understand my love of the wilderness and the small towns, the freedom to live the life I want to live. The houses I see on Zillow are so distasteful as is everything New York State and the liberalism it all involves.

Happy Birthday America! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Said the sign at the local VFW Post.

While most certainly sincere, it seems tinged with a bit of irony, not unlike wishing an elderly person who is in their final days a Happy Birthday! This 249th birthday in many ways is not unlike America’s 199th celebrated after the fall of Sagion and with a president only there after resignation of the President and Vice President.

β€œSix months ago, this country was stone cold dead,” the President said. β€œWe had a dead country. We had a country that people didn’t think it was going to survive.”

America will survive in one form or another, it’s still a powerful idea with many thoughtful people coming from diverse backgrounds. It might be some hard times now but as the popular mid century Paul McCarthy album from the seventies was titled, All Things Must Past. Maybe it’s the closing of an era, the temporary pain of the twenties with the 2030s a decade to start anew with a younger generation with fresh new era.

Take care of yourself. If you can’t save your country, at least try to save your own life. You matter, your life is short and precious, the country will survive regardless. Things will get better, they always do, even if there are setbacks in the present. But without you saving your own life and making it better, how can we make it better in our country?

I’m leaving for the wilderness with no cellphone reception or radio. I will be unplugged though I brought plenty of books to read, music to listen to and things to think about both for today and into the future. Some time to float on old intertube, to dream from the hammock, to giggle as the waterfall bubbles down stream and watch the sparklers and spark fountains go off as I celebrate America. A time to rest, cool off and get away from it all.

β€œThank you for your attention to this matter!” the President said.

Happy Birthday America!
