Good morning, Happy Thursday! 🌥️

Today is supposed to be a fairly cloudy day but continued muggy but maybe not as hot. It’s July. Tomorrow I’m going to work from home but for now I’m heading in early on my mountain bike into the office.

At 8 AM tomorrow I have my LASIK Consultation 👀 at the local place down the road. It’s just a consultation to learn about the procedure and get evaluated for my suitability but I’m all for moving forward, though not next week but certainly in the autumn or early in the winter. I could do sooner, I guess it depends how pushy the salesman is there and how much of a discount they give me to go right away. My main reason for waiting is I want to use up my existing supply of contact lens, which weren’t cheap before I end up tossing perfectly good lens that I paid good money into a rip-roading fire while drinking a cold beer to celebrate my good vision. 🔥

I am so over dealing with contacts and glasses, 🤓 I knocked my glasses off the shelf this morning and it seems like on cloudy days like today my eyes are often so irritated, regardless of how well I clean my contacts. To not have to deal with regular visits to the woke eye doctor and ordering more of those stupid plastic things you stick in your eyes would be so nice. It’s a good investment in my future, good vision is something I can use for the rest of my life and it’s not something that will break and need to be thrown away in a few years, paying a fee at a transfer station to get rid of or making black smoke. It’s money but it’s a good investment in my future. It’s unlike a car or a four wheeler or a computer or basically anything else you buy. 💻 Vision lasts a lifetime.

After my appointment, I’ll head into the office 🏢 and then probably head out early on Saturday up to camp. I don’t really want to drive up after work and have to deal with the traffic. 🚗 Probably just do a quick overnight up at Burnt-Rossman, swim at Mine Kill both days, hit up the Farm Stands on Sunday and maybe do some floating in the Schoharie Creek. 🏊 I was going to go out Friday, but it’s so much easier to not be driving when I’m dog tired 🐶 and setting up camp. Plus I’m hardly a fan of driving that ever so rough Betty Brook Road more then necessary. Tonight I’m not going to have much time to pack, as I have a Save the Pine Bush meeting 🦋 to go to, especially if I plan on shopping for the things I need for camp.

My doctors appointment for the yearly physical is on August 6th 🩺 so I definitely need to be back in town that first full week of August so if I do take off July 25-August 2nd I’m boxed in for that week even if it’s crappy. 📅 But that’s the week I think I want to take off not the week before as it splits summer up nicely. 🏕 I am ready for a good vacation, it’s been a long week.

Slavery for air conditioning

If you want to keep a 550 watt air conditioner powered full blast for a week by people riding bicycles, you will need to hire 21 people who each will ride the bicycle for 40 hours.

I don’t recommend doing this even with slaves – not cost effective.

Keeping it between the heaps of garbage and discarded plastic on this Hump Day! 🗑️

Apparently watching a few videos about solar not only do I get my feeds full of “get your woke solar before tax credit go buy-buy” and what you need is a jack-off battery box along with the competitors of the Jack-off hawking their China garbage lithium-ion boxes soon to be crushed in back of a garbage truck after you buy-buy-buy!  Probably starting a real toxic garbage fire.

I guess it’s a break from the endless ads about scammy rehab centers and mental help. I just like giggling floating on the tube in wilderness, watching the trees sparkle and rich colors listening to Country Joe and the Fish, even if conservatives disapprove. That said, I think the people who need mental help are those who celebrate plastic. Shit stinks and burns so black. And as the liberals like to remind you, don’t forget about the dioxins and furans, well at least with the chloronated plastics, which fortunately aren’t as well used in immediately disposable plastic but are loved as building materials in the suburbs.

Bike is back on the road, 🚲 so I can ride past the urban garbage recycling center, the south-end sewage treatment plant, to my office next to the Old City Garbage Dump and north-end sewage treatment plant. 👃 The urban garbage recycling plant ♻️ still stinks but lately they’ve gotten better at controlling the odor from the north-eand sewage treatment. Or as they call it, the Pollution Control Plant. You can see why I want a composting toilet and burn pit when I have my own land. 🚽 Take care of my own shit. Seems like the tire is holding air fine, both ways riding to Hannaford and the Norman’s Kill Preserve which I’m still bummed out about not having wild raspberries ripe enough to eat. 🍓 Got to go back probably after summer vacation. Hopefully I won’t have any issues with the tire, but at least if I make it one way, it might be worth it. I could always run in later and get my bike and get some things I forgot at the grocery store when I went shopping last night. 🛒 I didn’t get salt and apple cider vinegar. I go through so much apple cider vinegar in the heat, as it makes water so much more tasty, and it’s important to stay hydrated. If it’s good for cows and livestock, it must be good for humans that shovel the shit. 🐮

I wasn’t but I think I might work from home, well actually the library on Friday 🖥️ if it looks like I’m heading out of town. Saves a bit of driving and traffic headaches if I leave from home and drive out via NY 990V to Schoharie on Friday. 🥓 I still have some of that all important bacon and it would be a fun weekend floating on the Schoharie by Towpath Mountain Campground, getting veggies as Max Shauls Farm Stand, 🌽 and swimming at Mine Kill. 🏊 Might be still too early for corn especially with the wet spring though the heat recently helps. Maybe have a fire, 🔥 do some fishing 🎣 or riding along NY 30. Whatever. Not a big trip, but just another weekend away to beat the heat before summer is done. I know once summer vacation is over, there is only a few weeks left in August and then its Labor Day, which is super early this year. 🤯 Been thinking come August to do a weekend up at White House in ADKs, been a while since I’ve been up there.

I got to call about LASIK today. 👀 I have a list of places that do it locally. It’s a bit of a bummer I can’t use flex spend to get reimbursed tax-exempt but the rules are the rules, and I didn’t plan that far in advance but I want to stop wearing contact lens when my supply runs out. I’m just so tired of the irrated eyes and dealing with those stupid pieces of plastic in my eyes. It’s a good investment in my future, one that will last for decades, and it’s not like I’m buying more unburnable garbage soon to pay to get rid of transfer station. 👨‍⚕️ Investing in your health is always a good thing. 🍎 I might think organic is biggest woke scam ever invented, but some dairymen and others make good money filling their burn barrels with compliance paperwork. 📰 And makes them good money. 🤑 But I do support not eating processed foods, especially when you can make so many good things out of basic ingredients that aren’t packaged in so much of plastic crap. I’d rather spend my money on nutrients for my body 🦾 and throw away apple cores in the compost 🫝 then colorful labels and plastic to burn 🏷.

And I’m thinking the last week of July will be summer vacation. 🏖️ There is always a risk of bad weather but the real long range suggests hot with thunderstorms but not a wash out. I like hot, and I can duck in my truck or the the Watkins Glen library on stormy afternoons. That puts the weekend I’m driving up there the Ferrari weekend 🏎️ at Watkins Glen but I doubt many people will camp at National Forest for that specifically – – it’s not the big Watkins Glen race that occurs on August 8-10th. Stay out of the village that first weekend or at least avoid the main drags, it’s fine as long as I get a campsite by heading out to National Forest early on that Friday. 🏕️  I just go to think of some fun and unique activities to do up in Finger Lakes, to make the trip memorable. It’s so easy to do the same old crap each time.

Nitrile Gloves

This evening I was servicing my bike, and I put on a pair of nitrile gloves to keep the chain grease off my hands. It made working on the bike so much more pleasant, knowing I could just take off the gloves when done working, and not spent 10 minutes, wasting water, scrubbing my hands.

I generally despise disposable products. I mean, I really shouldn’t. They end up saving water and probably keep me safe from the cancerous grease. They get tossed in trash and ultimately get burned, a tiny piece of trash in the grand scheme of things. Still I don’t know, I really don’t like disposable stuff.

Probably not. But Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz decided to try it anyway, putting his body — and specifically his butt — on the line to answer a seemingly straightforward question: Is it possible to build up a tolerance to poison oak by eating it?
