The wind is roaring here at at Huyck Preserve. With things being so dry that’s concerning. That said, it looks like Tuesday through the start of the weekend things look unstable in the weather and it’s quite possible we get a few inches of rain or maybe not. I know I’d want it wetter before the next time I’m up in the woods with a fire.
The ride around Rennselaerville State Forest was quite pleasant today as was the hike at Huyck Preserve. It’s nice having only a relatively short drive home, unpacking and being ready for the upcoming work week having done necessary chores Thursday night. Maybe I should have camped that night but I wanted to be super cautious about fire being so dry. That said, I bet the colors up north were amazing. Next weekend is recovery from eye surgery but maybe the following weekend I can get away and enjoy more of autumn beauty before the colors all fade into primarily browns of November.
While I don’t agree with everything the late Charlie Kirk said – he is simply wrong on climate change and kind of a bigot when it comes to diversity and letting people live their lives as they choose straight or otherwise – he was a tireless advocate for both the first and second and second amendment – and I have a lot of respect for that.
“Keep America free…. You should be allowed to say outrageous things. Thereβs ugly speech. Thereβs gross speech. Thereβs evil speech. And all of itβs protected by the First Amendment.β
“I think itβs worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. β
I do think both rights are in danger and we need more tireless young adult advocates for them like the late Kirk.
Money is an odd thing in my mind. Somethings that are in absolute price are cheap seem very expensive while other things in absolute price are expensive but seem cheap.
Maybe it’s because I have the money but when I look at the numbers it seems like LASIK is such a non brainer compared to the cost and pain contact lens are. A permanent fix rather than just kicking the can down the road.
And the thing in $4k is penny change compared to the price of land or building an off-grid homestead without vinyl siding and asphalt shingles. Or even a new truck to replace now old Big Red. And fixing my vision will last a lot longer too.
I get at many levels its the hot dogs or sausage of the cannabis world – a mixature of cannabis leaf ground with concentrated cannabis scraps and flavoring to make crap cannabis stronger. But it has such a nice strong effect, smell and taste for its price.
Purists would say it’s loaded with unnatural and unhealthy chemicals. But it’s smoking grass with all its cancerous combustion byproducts, hardly a health activity. I’m sure the sweet taste appeals to women and the youth much like those cans of white claw litter that are a tell tail sign of an illegal backwoods youth drinking party. How white claw is legal in New York except for the lobbyists is beyond me, though I would certainly allow it even though I disapprove of littering and drunk teenagers killing themselves motoring after drinking. That said, I’m not that upset about youth parties in the woods if they’re not destroying shit, littering or smashing up cars.
Indeed, I’m sure that’s the grounds it’s certain to be banned in coming years – it’s sweet flavor and strong effect per hit – makes it prime bait for the prohibitionists much like flavored cigarettes. I’m sure they’ll find an example of a youth that took five hits of it, got behind a car on the Long Island Expressway, killing a mom and her children. The news will be all over that ultra strong and sweet smelling cannabis and the prohibitionists and the cops will be all about banning it and the politicians will coward as they always do and pass a law banning it.
Enjoy your freedom as you still can. That’s how it goes. The prohibitionists and politicians need to feel good by banning shit that gives people pleasure.
