New York State

New York is a state in the Northeastern region of the United States. New York is the 27th-most extensive, the 3rd-most populous, and the 7th-most densely populated of the 50 United States. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Ontario to the west and north, and Quebec to the north. The state of New York is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City.

Botheration Pond Trail

The Vly and Brotheration Pond are the headwaters of the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. The Vly is 3/4 miles back from Barton Mine Road. Brotheration Pond is another 1 1/2 miles from there.

The full loop via the Halfway Brook Trail to William Blake Trail to the Botheration Pond Trail back to Halfway Brook Trail is roughly 10 miles. This is a relatively (all day) loop to trail to hike or ski, as the elevation change is under 200 feet over the whole loop.

Poke O Moonshine Fire Tower

 Poke O Moonshine Fire Tower

Poke-O-Moonshine Fire Tower is located 2,161 feet above sea level and offers sweeping views of Northern Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Valley includes points as far north as Chazy, and south to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks.

There are two ways up Poke-o-Moonshine. The most common way nowadays is the 2.5 mile old woods road, that provide a quiet, modestly steep way up the mountain. The other way from the former Poke-O-Moonshine Campground is a 1.2 mile steep and eroded footpath.

Buckton State Forest covers 1,092 acres over 4 parcels in the town of Stockholm in northeastern St. Lawrence County. The land, located in the St. Lawrence Valley is largely flat and divided by the Saint Regis River.
