Daily Update – April 22, 2022

Good morning! Happy Earth Day! 🌎

A pretty nice morning for anything outdoors be it turning the dirt or just walking down to the express bus as I’m doing. Things continue to green in the city, although it will be another blustery spring day. Don’t be leaving smoldering garbage piles while you run to town on this Earth Day.

Mostly sunny and 46 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. 🌞 There is a west breeze at 11 mph. 🍃.

Again this morning, the wind makes the day feel a bit cold especially downtown. 🌬️Past few weeks have been quite windy and cool. Once the weather changes though I’m sure it will get quite hot. Before you know it I’ll want to reinflate that truck intertube so I can be floating down a river some where. ⚫ Seventy degrees days are rare in Albany – it’s usually either eighty and hot or in the fifties. 🏊‍♀️ I’m totally ready for summer months.

Yesterday I got in more than 22,000 steps 👣 or a little over ten miles which isn’t bad for a work day. My usual walks were about 5 miles or so then there was the Pine Bush Hike 🚶‍♂️🌲and then I walked until well after dusk 🌆 in the Pine Bush even more. Today though I found a few ticks on my back and swear I’m a bit stiff and sore but hopefully I don’t have Lyme. Maybe because it’s that I didn’t sleep well. 😴 It was really pretty in the Pine Bush come dusk.

That said, I may just be tired as I was up later then usual. 🛌 I hiked in the Pine Bush until quarter to nine, then got $30 in gas for my truck ⛽ and a few supplies at the Yuppie Market 32 in Guilderland. 🍓 Seeing the prices at Yuppie Market 32 made me almost want to faint and fall over. Everything has gotten so expensive with inflation. 📈 One upside I will say is that while prices are up at Walmart, they don’t seem quite as bad as more yuppie marts. But then again, I buy very basic things, and even at Walmart things aren’t as cheap as they one were.

It’s Earth Day. 🌎 I should burn less plastic up in the woods and take it to the landfill to be dumped in the Pine Bush City Garbage Dump, lol. 🤣 Seriously though, I think one of the best things you can do for the environment isn’t buy greenie products or even recycle, but buy less things, drive less, walk more, do more locally. 🚶‍♀️

Make your own food, take care of your own needs without buying things with a lot of packaging. Packaging not produced doesn’t have to be recycled or landfill.  ♻️ I did the recycling thing all winter long, like a good boy, washing out my bottles and cans, and it certainly cuts down on the number of trash bags getting burnt, although I have to say tossing burnables in hot fire is a lot easier and saves water and trips to the transfer station — where you don’t know if the recyclables ultimately just take the long trip to the landfill. 🔥

I always thought farmers 🚜 were some of the most green people out there, 🌲 as they composted or burned most of their waste, and they are ultimately keeping the land green and working, and not becoming suburbanite subdivisions and shopping malls. 🏬 Of course people disagree with that, because cows when chewing the cud do burp methane from breaking down the hay, which is a greenhouse gas until it’s absorbed by all the grass and corn grown to feed the next generation of cows. 🐮 👉 🌽 After all, corn and hay are made up of carbon dioxide that are absorbed from the atmosphere.

That said, unlike the suburbanite who has their trash picked up every week, many farmers go to the transfer station once a year or less, especially if they burn and have their own dump on their on their property. It’s a fact that an acre of cows grazing produce far less greenhouse gas then an acre of suburbanite houses or high-rise buildings. 🏢 And farmers don’t usually have the money to spend on greenie-products that they bought on the Amazon have to throw away each way. 📦

Needless to say, today I have to work 👨‍💼 and make money, 💰 so I don’t have any time to participate in Earth Day Protests 🌎 although I’ll have to watch them from my office. I do have a good view of West Capitol Plaza from my new office. Not that I’ll have a lot of free time, as I expect today be a very busy day at work. 🐦 There is far more wildlife on a dairy 🐮 or any other type of farm 🍏 then any city block, I don’t care about how you are chopping off people’s heads and claiming cities are lower per capita 👥 compare to less populated, green wild country that smells like cow poop 💩 and silage. 🌽

Weather Update – April 21, 2022

I am glad I brought my rain coat today ☔

Probably won’t need it and it made me extra sweaty this morning, but who knows. Pine Bush hike might be wet. Tomorrow looks nice but again pretty windy. As does the weekend. Still though a fair amount of snow up north. If there wasn’t the snow or the family obligations might be a good weekend to heat out of town, although that wind would probably have made things a lot colder and I’d be worried about sparks from burning shit.

Daily Update – April 21, 2022

Good morning! Happy Thursday.

Sunny but already graying on this spring morning. 🌸 Rain showers are expected later. Things continue to green up but the snow and cold weather earlier in the week was a bit of a set back. Spring though is still coming.

Partly cloudy and 36 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. ⛅ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. 🍃.

Wednesday was a pretty ordinary Hump Day, 🐫 busy but reasonable. Pine Bush Presentation was interesting, a lot of that renewable technology is getting better, it’s less and less about marketing and more practical.

Yesterday, I got in 20,000 steps as I did my morning walk, walked down to Lincoln Park mid-day and then around Elm Avenue Park after work. 👣 That’s good I’ve been making up for the more lazy weekend that was. That said, some of it wasn’t my fault with the rain and cold most of the weekend.

Tonight I have the Pine Bush Hike, 🌲 so that’s even more of a chance for hiking to some more. Maye I’ll even hit 20,000 steps again today. I will have to see, I often like going for a hike after the main hike in the night time, which is the best time of day to hike in the Pine Bush.

This weekend I’m thinking I will put on the red paint over the primer on my truck. 🛻 It would be good to cover over the rust paint which looks ugly. Sunday might be a good day for that as it will be warm and dry. And then walk out to Five Rivers.

Compared to recent years, spring is running late in Albany. 🌷 Looking at the long range, it seems like it’s no rush to get here though I tend to think we are past the frost point in Albany and that significant snow is unlikely until autumn.

38 days until the start of the Memorial Day Weekend 🇺🇸

38 days until the start of the Memorial Day Weekend 🇺🇸

Fun fact, Memorial Day this year falls on the traditional, pre-National Monday Holiday Act (1970) day of May 30th. Back in the 1960s, Memorial Day often fell during the middle of the week. For example, Memorial Day ’68 was on a Thursday, and people had to go to work on the Friday after Memorial Day.

Weather Update – April 20, 2022

Sunny but cold today with the wind 💨

If not for the snow and rain of yesterday probably would be another red flag 🚩 day for not tossing cigerette butts out your car window and lighting trash on fire and then driving off to town. 🚘 And other stupid shit like that.

Looks like a nice weekend but there will be a ton of sloppy snow in the mountains 🗻 come the weekend so I’ll probably end up staying in town plus I have that family obligation. 👪

Daily Update – April 20, 2022

Good morning! What day is it? Probably a busy Hump Day, of course.

After a quiet start to the week usually the second half of the week is busy. With only six weeks left until the end of the legislative session, and lots of committee meeting next week I’m sure it will be a busy few days.

Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, out.🐜NY. ⛅ There is a west breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. ☃ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. ☃️

With the remaining clumbs of snow ❄ around and the strong winds 🌬️ it feels more like a March morning than April but the snow is already disappearing quickly. Still a ton of snow up north and in the hill towns but it’s not expected to last too far into next week. At least I’m not trudging through the slop down to the express bus 🚍 this morning. Sidewalks are clear and dry already. Big Red still has a lot of snow on him. 🛻

With the wind 🌬️ and the clouds and general dampness from the melting snow 🌨 its a rather bitterly cold morning for late April. I guess cold April’s aren’t uncommon in Albany, indeed it’s the month warming the slowest of any month of the year.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for winter to be done and maybe get up to the Adirondacks before the black flies are out.🐜 Maybe next weekend. With the cold spring it just seems like it so tardy this year.

Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Virtual Dinner, 🌲 actually just a Zoom presentation by Tina Liberman about Down To Earth: Practical Steps You Can Take to Reduce Carbon Emissions & Save Our Climate. I’ll be attending but I’m afraid it mostly will be a sales pitch about greeny products you can buy to feel green. I think rather then buying greenie products, the best thing to do is just buy nothing at all.
