Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Summer οΈβ±οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2021, we had mostly sunny but humid weather with thunderstorms and temperatures between 86 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938.
I think it’s silly that liberals are getting all worked up about tuning of diesels. π
I think it’s silly that liberals are getting all worked up about tuning of diesels. π
Emissions standards are good from the factory but may not be practical or desirable in all areas. Some parts of the country have unhealthy air, and they have annual emissions inspections for automobiles and other restrictions. Plenty of other locations are rural and have relatively pure air, where the emissions equipment is good to have but not essential for clean air purposes.
Many diesel pick up truck owners install tuners and remove emissions equipment. Tuners can improve fuel economy, reliability and performance. They can make it better to tow heavy loads or for tractor pulls, or for the fun of rolling coal. It’s not to say stock emissions don’t have a place anywhere but for those who choose to disable controls outside of pollution control areas, so be it.
Some pollution crosses air basins and people drive from one community to the next. Even the most backwoods farm kid might drive into a city’s air basin with their dirtier emissions than stock truck. But that doesn’t matter because they are a minority, and their one vehicle is balanced out by many cleaner vehicles on the road. Most fleet vehicles will never be modified and even the majority of most truck owners will not be bothered to buy a tune or take off unnecessary emissions equipment.
And while you can model the impact of these emissions and make enormous sounding numbers on the impact to the environment, such numbers rarely take into account overall urban emissions or that many vehicles are operated outside of emissions basins. A much more important stragety should be to focus on new vehicles from the factory and emissions compliance in air basins that are currently not in compliance.
Now I understand that liberals and Joe Biden’s administration is looking for as many ways as possible to punish rural residents and conservatives who didn’t vote for them to the greatest extent possible. But government power shouldn’t be used to punish your political enemies.

Good Morning, Happy Tuesday
Good Morning, Happy Tuesday. β
More clouds this morning but still quite seasonable. More sun supposed to come in later, with a high around 73 degrees. Even warmer tomorrow, maybe looking at 78 degrees with sunshine.
Out for the morning walk, enjoying the moderate weather, πΆβοΈ with temperatures around 65 degrees. No bright sunshine in my eyes π and just pleasant weather for walking and getting going this morning.
Memorial Day Weekend seems to be trending downwards, π§ with more showers on Saturday and Sunday. This year with my position at work and next week being the final week of session, I don’t think it advisable to head out of town. π I could work remote from camp, but I am thinking the following weekend if it’s nice I can be off-grid all weekend, and not be bothered by work things. Plus I still need to get the oil changed and tires rotated on Red. π» There won’t be the crowds on a non-holiday weekend, and I can get the campsite I want.
Last night wasn’t too bad, I got home by 7:15 PM π made up pasta and meat balls, and then went for my evening walk. Fairly tired, got home from my walk and I was asleep by 9 AM. Got back up at 6 AM and went out for my walk.
Been having trouble with my clothing iron, π΄οΈthe thermostat seems to be failing but I’ve been trying to coax at least another week and a half out of it until session is done. I don’t know if I can take the iron apart non-destructively to fix the thermostat. It’s unfortunate, although I got 15 years out of it, so that’s not too bad. I do a lot more ironing these days between work and keeping the muzzles π· looking neat.
I think people may be wrong about stagflation ahead π
While I think the economy may slow in coming months, I am not sure if that will lead to stagflation. Stagflation only exists if inflation doesn’t slow when the economy slows. Much of the current bout of inflation is due to high demand and not enough supply. A recession is likely to lead to significant demand destruction, especially with oil and energy usage but also most other material goods.
In the 1970s, stagflation was a relatively new thing. The federal reserve didn’t really know the way to break inflation is to slam on the brakes on economy really hard, no matter how hard the politicians and the public scream in pain. But Paul Volcker taught the economic world a lesson — it’s possible to break inflation — if you slow the economy enough by high enough interest rates. Jerome Powell is a Republican, and there is no reason to think he will be gentle at raising interest rates to keep President Biden happy from the mobs of angry home-builders, automakers and farmers likely to storm the Washington Maul.

Good morning! Happy Monday
Good morning! Happy Monday. π
Those weekends certainly don’t last the way they once did. But neither does those $30 gas-fill ups or $50 grocery shopping trips, and prices just keep going up.
This morning is partly sunny and around 53 degrees. π€ Much more refreshing then the muggy weather as of lately. Much of the weekend was anything but pleasant with so much heat and humidity, which was replaced with heavy rain on Sunday evening and finally the weather of day. Looking at a high of 72 degrees later. A big improvement since yesterday.
Today I’m heading into the office early π¨πΌ as there is more work to get done, as there always is. I could have done it maybe yesterday, but I don’t have Micro$oft Wordy on my laptop, and OpenOffice always seems to mess up the format just a little bit when converting to .DOCX. Sucks but for everything else Linux is much better, except converting things from OpenOffice to that inferior format. Skipped my morning walk too. πΆβοΈ I know, I’m bad.
Yesterday, I went out to the folks house πͺ for Sunday dinner π which was turkey burgers and all the fixings. I was able to take home left overs for dinner tonight, as I’m sure I will be in the office late into the evening. Got home, put my clothes away and worked on some R code.
I am about 90 percent sure I will stay home for Memorial Day Weekend, π as with fuel prices, crowds, and black flies it doesn’t make sense to me. Plus being the last week of session next week, I have a strong feeling I will have to do remote work and with gas prices the way they are, I just want to maximize my weekends in places where I’m not thinking at all about weekend.
The thought it is to take a long weekend π the first or second week of June. I’ve been busy, but I also need to do an oil change on my truck, although I could go longer because I’ve driven so few miles, though I’m due because of how long it’s been since the last change — last August. But I’ve only driven about 3,500 miles in the mean-time due to the high price of fuel. β½
