January 19, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fiery red skies to the east and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. The skies will clear Monday around 4 pm.

One more morning to the weekend. โ˜บ Just out doing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ watching the sun rise and getting ready for what is likely to be another busy day at work, especially come the afternoon and the Wednesday memos start hitting my desk. ๐Ÿ“„ Fortunately, with some code I’ve at least partially automated the process.

Today will rain and snow, possibly mixed with sleet before 3pm, then rain, snow, and freezing rain between 3pm and 5pm, then rain and snow after 5pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 34 degrees at 10am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 9th. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Going to need the lamp on my desk on this morning. ๐Ÿ›‹ It’s another dark and dreary day. I will try to get in 8,000 steps this morning so I can easily hit 10,000 by lunch time walk. That way if the weather is bad this evening, I will have my steps in. I don’t mind walking in the snow — that can be nice but I think it might be rain or it could be ice. ๐ŸŒจ I am glad I’m still wearing my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท as so many people are out sick lately, but I’ve been healthy. Muzzles really do make a difference.

The guy who is very proud of his red socks ๐Ÿงฆ is on the express bus again. I haven’t seen him in years, he is an occasional eccentric who from time to time rides the express bus. Always well dressed, looks like a state worker but it’s weird, he always introduces himself and shows you his socks. Seems like a jolly old fellow, reminds me a bit of Warren Buffet, maybe I should spend some more time listening beyond saying Good morning, those are nice socks, and dipping my head into my phone, trying my best to ignore the non-sensible things he says to himself. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27° from the due south horizon (-43.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:22 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:57 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and freezing rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 52 seconds over today.

Tonight will rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 2am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with snow showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. East wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. North wind around 7 mph. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

I think this will be a weekend to stay home. ๐Ÿก I am thinking Saturday I will walk out to Five Rivers for a few hours. Maybe do a morning hike there and then go down to the library. Or maybe I’ll go to the library Friday night and then out to Five Rivers on Saturday afternoon. A lot depends on how much snow we ultimately get, or how icy things are. I still think it’s going to be more rain and wet slop locally but only time will tell.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป when the sun will be setting at 5:11 pm with dusk at 5:39 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 27 and 20 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1981.

Dirt Path Up Hill

January 18, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees for the evening walk here in Delmar. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 26 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. That wind is a bit cold now that I’m out in the open but earlier didn’t feel real cold. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ With the shit ton of salt on the sidewalks things should be good. If they only had been out earlier I could have done my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and actually gotten my steps in.

What can I say, the first half of the week is done. ๐Ÿซ It’s nice when it’s a Monday and your out in Madison County. Why can’t all of life be like last weekend? โ›บ Its been a pretty busy week at work ๐Ÿข but I’ve been keeping things moving along. Closed out a bunch of projects ๐Ÿ“„ and I only screwed one up today. Soon it will be time for bed ๐Ÿ›.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 29 degrees at 5am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind 6 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -28 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 10% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Friday, February 3. The darkest hour is at 12:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:22 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:06 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow, possibly mixed with rain before 5pm, then rain, snow, and sleet. ๐ŸŒฅ High of 34 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 4th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

With weather like that expected I’m kind of glad I live in the city. ๐ŸŒƒ Not that we ever get much snow in the city but the buses run regardless of the weather. ๐Ÿš I have to admit I’m pretty inexperienced when it comes to winter driving at this point after all these years in the city. I mean I have a big jacked up truck ๐Ÿ›ป but I try to avoid driving it as much as possible in the winter months. That said, it’s mostly just rains in the city, especially as it has warmed so much in the past decade.

In four weeks on February 15 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) at 5:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 23 and 17 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. The record high of 55 degrees was set back in 2006.

Hillside

January 18, 2023 Morning

Good morning! An icy start to this Wednesday. โ„ Slip sliding our way into the mid week. How icy are the sidewalks? Well maybe not the dire emergency that the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ media is proclaiming but they were bad enough that after slipping and falling on the driveway and then trying again with the microspikes which suck on asphalt and concrete I just gave up on the walk and went back inside. Put on my suit and tie ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ showered ๐Ÿšฟ and walked very carefully down to the bus stop ๐Ÿšthough not exactly in that order.

Cloudy, icy and 34 degrees in Bethlehem, NY. โ˜” There is a southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The weekend forecast is everything you can expect of recent January’s. ๐ŸŒฅ I’m giving the month ownership of the weather not the warming climate. Saturday, cloudy, with a high near 35. Sunday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

Some good news is that l, next Wednesday is the 5 PM Sunset ๐Ÿ€ผ/strong>๓‘ฐ when the sun will be setting at 5:00 pm with dusk at 5:29 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 29 and 5 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1938.

Snow Squall Heads In

January 17, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜ Calm wind. The sidewalks are a bit icy from the freezing rain earlier and I’m sure the news media is declaring the slippery roads a dire emergency that deserves governmental action but I’m like whatever, stay home or use caution. I’m glad I ran to the store ๐Ÿฌ yesterday.

The truth is with my new boots – which are finally broke in ๐Ÿฅพ I have decent traction on the ice and the freezing rain is kind of mixed in Delmar so it’s not super icy yet. And it’s getting warmer. I seriously thought about skipping my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but lately I’ve been on a roll with my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and I didn’t want to have a down day. You know how those steps apps can get your butt moving.

It was a very typical psuedo Monday at the office ๐Ÿข. I ended up running late and catching the later local to work ๐Ÿš and then doing the walk of shame into my office though I don’t think any the other directors caught me coming in late. I’m usually one of the first ones in as I take the express bus and then walk the Plaza before work so I’m usually in well before nine. Busy left work at 6:15 pm and it was raining hard this evening. I’m definitely noticing that the days are getting longer and are sunnier in the evening.

Tonight will have a chance of freezing rain and sleet before midnight, then a chance of rain and sleet. Mostly cloudy โ›…, with a low of 33 degrees at 8pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 18% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Thursday, February 2. The darkest hour is at 12:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:23 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 18 seconds. Sunrise is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:06 am with sun in the southeast (126ยฐ). Not going to be a particularly nice morning though. Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 46 seconds over last night.

I was reading that January 22nd is the Lunar New Year ๐ŸŒ‘ that is the big Chinese celebration that the western press either will chew out saying it’s going to lead to bad air pollution in China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ or as a super spreader event for the COVID with everybody having some fun. ๐ŸŽ‡ As because everybody in the press is a Debbie Downer about fun when it’s not America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Honestly though I’m excited about the year of the rabbit ๐Ÿฐ. I was reading the horoscopes for the year, the complete psuedo science they are, just for fun.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 42 degrees at 11am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. Light west wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1973. 7.9 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

In four weeks on February 14 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at 5:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 4 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 28 and 15 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 17 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1946.

Looking ahead, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 4 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 6 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 months, First Day of Spring ๐Ÿ’ฎ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 10 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 4 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 22 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 24 weeks, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง is in 25 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 28 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 8 months, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 41 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 43 weeks, Election Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 43 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 46 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 49 weeks.

Climbing the Trail

January 17, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday from back in the cesspool. New York let’s go chase that money. Partly sunny and 21 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ on this third week of January after the long weekend, which seemed too short. Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธAnd then more rain this evening. I will pack my umbrella for the evening commute.

It’s back to work after the long weekend. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿป‍๐Ÿ’ผ Already got paid for the weeks gone by. Memories of the weekend come and gone loom large. Despite the thermostat set at fifty in my apartment I was much too warm with the heat. โ™จ I felt like a husky brought inside in the freezing weather. I’m sure I’ll feel hot all day in the office ๐Ÿข and I’ll have my fan running.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ, with a high of 37 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1889. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

Got paid this morning ๐Ÿ’ธ before I could even get out of bed and look ๐Ÿ› at the NY Post cover on the wall from Dan Halloran and the ducking money and his hair brained scheme to sell the New York City mayor-ship. If you are planning on putting a knife ๐Ÿ—ก though some ones back make sure you actually will be successful at killing them. Usually it’s the dumb criminals that get caught. Smart ones amend the law โš– so their conduct is lawful.

Running a bit late on my morning walk so I had to walk past the smoking cars ๐Ÿš™ past the high school ๐Ÿšธ but whatever. I am taking the local ๐Ÿš to work so I have a bit of extra time to iron my shirt, take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and pack a lunch. ๐Ÿฅช I’m not going to pack a dinner, I’m hopeful it won’t be too late of a night. But I don’t care, once I get home ๐Ÿก if it’s not raining I’ll do my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and then head to bed after dinner.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.6° from the due south horizon (-44.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:06 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 46 seconds over today.

It just back to the grind, ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿš and Madison County was so nice but I know I’m working for a better future ๐Ÿ”ฎ. I was fortunate enough to have a job that I could work in Madison County for a brief period of time โณ but those days came and went so quickly, just as did Dr. King’s ๐Ÿ‘‘ weekend. But so be it. Not the other side of the world, I could go back there at some point in the spring. ๐ŸŒท I’m thinking though for President’s Weekend I might be back at Rennselaerville State Forest. That is five weeks off though. I can’t complain too much, just a four day week and it will be the weekend before you know it.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 2am, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Fixed the chain ๐Ÿ”— on my wallet. I find old USB cables work good for tying my wallet to my belt and usually last a year or two. Now that’s real recycling โ™ป and means that I don’t loose my wallet. ๐Ÿค”

Continued mild for the weekend though Sunday will be the best day. โ˜€ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 40. Probably cold enough that things will be frozen on Bennett Hill though for hiking I’m thinking. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. The coldest time of the year isn’t so cold.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:27 pm with dusk at 5:54 pm. Or as I like to call it, Valente’s Day, mostly because I’m not good at spelling. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 28 and 15 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

Old Partridge Run Road

January 16, 2023 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Don’t be sad ๐Ÿ˜” that it’s over, remember the good times. I really enjoyed the rural landscape of Madison County and getting away. ๐Ÿšœ There is something so charming about the deep rural. I wish I could live there. Maybe someday but not in New York State. I guess money isn’t a big deal as I think but I’m not sure how I would make ends meet in a place like Madison County. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ I’m sure there are many other places like it only without the silliness of our wonderful state. I just love all the browns and earthy colors this time of year, the smells of the earth, silage, manure and wood smoke. ๐Ÿฎ

It really turned out to be a wonderful trip. ๐Ÿ—ป Today finally had bright blue skies and the snow ๐ŸŒจ and ice on the trees was amazing. Too bad my camera ๐Ÿ“ธ battery was dead and I had to use my cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ as they’ve cleared the top of Tassell Hill and there are great views of the Mohawk Valley and Adirondacks now. Such an amazing weekend. Cold โ„ at times but not unexpected for December. Maybe I should have hot tented but I was fine under the covers in my truck.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 19 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 19th. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 2am; Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 27% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Wednesday, February 1. In four weeks on February 13 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at 5:25 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 58 seconds later then tonight.
