The Elm Avenue Park and Ride offers a convenient way to get downtown without the hassles of urban traffic. Located next to the Elm Avenue Park at the end of the Delmar Bypass (NY 32), it is serviced by several buses that will quickly transport you downtown.
There is a new, expanded schedule for the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. 5 morning buses depart there, 5 buses in the afternoon plus a mid-day bus schedule. Very convenient. http://www.cdta.org/uploads/Route719.pdf
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Ten weeksuntil Thanksgiving.🦃 We are the same distance between now and Thanksgiving, and the First Day of Summer and Labor Day. Sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. Foggy 🌁 in the city. As they say, winters coming. It’s only going to get colder. I caught the local to work 🚍 as was running late as I got looking at a map, trying to plan out my vacation. 🍂
I might order a good West Virginia map like a Rand McNally as because the National Forest map I have is excellent but the same can’t be said about the AAA map which covers three states down that way. 🗺 I think I could make my route using that map but a better one on Amazon is like $5 and I might discover things that I would overlook. Regardless, I want this year’s trip to be better planned than last year.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.
The sun will set at 6:58 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.
Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 13 degrees above normal. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.
This evening I’ll head to the store 🏬 and get the supplies I need and Big Red gassed up. ⛽ Right after the Pine Bush hike I want to head up to the Adirondacks for a final overnight trip at the potholers. After this, I probably won’t be back to Piseco-Powley Road until next June or July — we will see — but I think with the colder weather coming and the fact that area is prone to lake effect snow.🌨 I’d wait until next weekend, but who knows what the weather will be like by next week.
I still think it’s pretty neat that OGS agreed to reprogram funds for the combined heat and power plant 🔳 for solar both on the plaza and in Oneida County. While I’m not a fan of developing more solar farms, it’s good to see the state is putting their money where their mouth is. They have a lot of room for solar at the State Office Campus, if they built over the parking lots and the ring roads. Putting solar over the roads makes a lot of sense in the snow climate we live in — no snow to remove and rain is blocked from motorists windshields.🏔
In two weeks, the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. 🌆 On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.
Good morning! Happy Constitution Day on this Tuesday morning. 📃 It’s been said many times before, the constitution is just a paper document that you can use as bedding in your cow 🐮 barn if the public is not willing to enforce it. Mr. NOAA is sleeping in this morning so I’ll have to do my best without him. I think it’s about fifty degrees out with lots of sun. 🌞
Today we are looking for a high around 72 with lots of sunshine with high pressure in control. 😎 I hope you have your sunglasses, I know I won’t need the lights in my office today. About one degree below normal which is similar to what you would expect for Thursday. A week from now the high is only 69. Sunset 🌇 tonight is around 7:02 pm with dusk around seven thirty. By tomorrow it will be the last sunset after seven until mid March. Winters coming! ⛄
I decided to run to Price Chopper as it was the closest supermarket and buy some frozen vegetables and cheese and after shave. 🚙 They didn’t have the after shave I normally use and the frozen vegetables 🍲 that were supposedly on sale weren’t on sale. I wish I had just gone to Walmart or Shoprite. 🏪
The internet wasn’t working on my laptop on Monday but I think it was a temporary glitch. 📡 I thought some of the software I upgraded broke things but it looks like just suspending and waking up the computer 💻 seemed to get it working again. I think maybe the Bluetooth driver somehow confused the wifi in the laptop. The Realtek chip in the laptop has always been a bit problematic. A bit frustrating 😤 for sure as I use my laptop a Iot.
One good thing I discovered was that I found what was wrong with my display in my bedroom. 📟 I have a loose power wire going to the microprocessor and that’s causing a voltage ⚡ drop which causes the microprocessor to either freeze or send invalid data to the display. I should be able to fix that now with a bit of solder.
Tonight after work I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house to hopefully get close to wrapping up his history project.🔎 I doubt I’ll have much time to do much more come October with my road trip and other things coming up that month. 🍁🍂
One month from today on October 17th the sun will be setting at 6:10 pm and the average high will be only 59 degrees. 🍂 Outside of the city the leaves will be largely past peek and it be closer to November than September. That said, November is my favorite month of the year. I love 😍 those frosty cold November mornings when things are crystal clear. Southern zone deer season opens in sixty days.
Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Average High is 60 🍂. Partly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. Seems like a nice morning. I’m making up some french toast 🧇 and coffee ☕ now and going to soon take a shower 🚿.
I think the plan for today is to hike Windham High Peak 🗻 and go out to my parents house 🍲 for Sunday dinner. 🚶 I haven’t done Windham High Peak in a number of years and I have think it will be a nice hike, even if last time I was up there I was under impressed by the views. 📷
Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. West wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1915.
The sun will set at 7:06 pm with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 10pm. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1964.
The display in my bedroom is still getting stuck and malfunctioning a lot. 📟 I think I’ve found the bad solder joint and the board, I will have to hit it again with the soldering iron. 🔬
Next weekend keeps looking increasingly hot and sunny. 😎 I think it might be good for one more weekend at the potholers after I do the Pine Bush Bird Hike 🐦 early on Saturday morning.
Been thinking 💭 about hiking back to Pharoah Lake in late October or early November. 🚶 I made up a revised map 🗾 yesterday and was thinking it would be a nice day hike. The hike back there is an easy 3 1/2 miles each way over virtually flat terrain (you gain only 200 ft in elevation from Beaver Brook Road) but the 420 acre lake 🐠 is 5 miles around it so it’s a good distance. Do it in November and all your bound to see is a few deer hunters, 🦌 the crowds 👪 will be long gone.
I haven’t talked or given a whole lot of thought towards saving for my off grid house 🏡 lately. The automatic investments are doing their thing and I’m getting closer one step at a time. Yeah, a lot of people I went to school with or know are buying houses out in the country 🐮 but I just can’t see doing that while I still live in New York. I’m fine spending a lot of weekends for now in the wilderness, camping, cooking and having fires. 🔥
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 60 🍂 when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.
Good afternoon! Mostly sunny and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 46 degrees. A pretty nice day, although I decided to stay in town this weekend. Instead, I spent my morning doing trail work at the Holt Preserve in Feura Bush and other things that needed to get done.
I’ve been trying to do more volunteer work these days 🌲🌳and be more involved with my community. I like doing trail work, it’s much different from what I do weekdays at work. I still also remain quiet involved with Save the Pine Bush, especially coordinating an leading the hikes, 🚶 research 📂 and helping out with the dinners. 🍜
Also got a lot of other things done that were necessary ❎ …. I got my hair cut 💈so I’ll look nice for the work presentation I’m doing this week in New York, took the paper recyclables ♻ to the paper 📄 dumpster at the Park and River. The paper garbage can was getting a little full at home and I don’t like to burn that much paper at camp as it’s kind of hard to burn 🔥. Paper doesn’t burn as easy as you would think, especially the glossy papers.
This afternoon will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. Northwest wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1945.
After the trail work day 👷 at Holt Preserve I collapsed in bed. 😴 I was exhausted. I slept awful last night because I had a cup of strong coffee ☕a my coffee often is after work to have enough energy to do my evening walk. While I fell asleep early, I didn’t sleep well with some pretty crazy nightmares. 💭
Later this afternoon I’m going to go and walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸. I always like the walk 🚶 out there and it’s nice to have the bathrooms 🚽 out there to take a piss when I get there. Worse part of hiking in the city. I like being able to pee wherever I want in the wilderness.
The sun will set at 7:19 pm with dusk around 7:47 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.
I can’t dilly daly too long a Five Rivers 🌲🌳as the sun is setting increasingly early. 🌇 I plan to go shopping later this evening. 🍗🍲🍜🍝 Definitely kind of low on food but I have $3 off coupon at ShopRite.
Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 54 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 9th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. West wind around 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1978.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High 70 🎑 when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:22 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 71 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1895.
Good morning! Happy Beautiful Fall Thursday. The skies are blue, the sun is shining, it’s comfortable, not only too cool or hot. Nice walk down to the bus. 🚌 Wore my Carhartt vest for the first time this year. Next Thursday is 6:30Sunrise 🌇. Mornings are a bit dark now although surpringly I awoke pretty early, made eggs for breakfast 🍳 and pasta for lunch 🍲. Mostly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☀☀☀☀ Even though there is only one sun, I’ll give it four this morning. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high was set last year.
The sun will set at 7:22 pm with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1938.
Last night I went for my evening walk early — before sunset 🚶 and it was quite pleasant. I’ve gotten out of the habit of the evening walk, and I didn’t want to risk getting busy with the work project I was doing last night, and then miss my walk. That was a good thing, because I ended up working on that project until almost 11 PM.💻
A picture perfect autumn weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. North wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.
I think Saturday I will stay in town, but Sunday go out hiking. 🚶 I have a lot of things to do around home on Saturday including get my hair cut, but maybe I’ll hike out to Five Rivers in the afternoon. 🐸 Sunday I may go hiking in the Catskills, or maybe hunting/fishing at Partridge Run. 🎣🐿️ I really enjoyed hiking Hunter Mountain the other day, so I’m thinking another hike would be nice.⛰
I was thinking last night that it’s been 18 years since the September 11th terrorist attacks. 🏢 A child born shortly after September 11th 👶 can now vote in the election this year. ❎ I was a freshman in college, 18 years old when the attacks hit. That’s half a lifetime ago now for me. It makes the eighteen years between birth 🎂 and high school graduation 🎓 seem so inconsequential. Assuming I “retire” young to have my off grid cabin and hobby farm 🐮🐷🐤, in another 18 years I’ll likely be close to retirement.
One month until my October Road Trip to West Virginia. 🍂 The first day I will drive down to Towanda Penna, then down to West Virginia via Interstate 99 on that Sunday. 🏕 I’m hoping for real nice weather, and this being a week earlier then last year, hopefully the leaves will be close to peak in higher elevations, such as off of Spruce Mountain and Canaan Heights.
As previously noted, next Thursday is 6:30 Sunrise 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 7:10 pm with dusk at 7:38 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.
Good morning! Happy Back to School Day 🎒! It’s a Hump Day although so far traffic hasn’t been too bad. Taking the express in today. 🚌 Wednesday is September 11th 🇸. Hard to believe 18 years has passed since then. A child born after September 11th can vote this year. ☑ I was 18 when the attacks happened, I’m twice that now.
Mostly cloudy and 66 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ⛅ There is a south breeze at 13 mph. 🍃 wit. There is a touch of humidity with the dew point around 60 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm. Not a terrible walk but brisk because I was a little bit late.🚶
Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy ☁ , with a high of 79 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 3pm. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1929.
The sun will set at 7:24 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then isolated showers between 7pm and 8pm. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974.
Yesterday was a busy day as expected 💼 but what got needed to be done got done. I ended up going to the library for a while last night to work on a work project that I had fallen behind schedule somewhat.📚 I was going to work on the blog and some other stuff down there, but the work stuff consumed all my time, and then it was time to go home. Then I ended up going home, and just watching a video I downloaded on my laptop.📼 I also put away my camping gear. I misplaced my Bluetooth adapter — I think it’s in my truck but it was getting dark and I couldn’t find it last night.
Still looks like this weekend will be sunny but cool. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 55 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.
This weekend I am thinking I’ll get a hair cut, 💈and maybe then on Sunday go hiking 🚶 before I go out to my parents house, maybe down in the Catskills. Or maybe I’ll head up to Partridge Run and do some hunting, hiking, and fishing. Not totally sure. 💭I don’t want to plan a big adventure to save money, and also because I have a lot of things I need to do around the house, including getting the Save the Pine Bush Map Pyramid Properties Map printed at a print shop before next week. Next Tuesday I’ll be down in New York City, so that will take up most of my day in the evening. The hearing is Wednesday.
Two weeks from Saturday is the Pine Bush Bird Watching Hike 🐦🕊 so I will probably stay in town that weekend, and then there is only one more weekend in September — and the first week of October I’m leaving for West Virginia. 🚘 So who knows how many more times I’ll get out this month. I do think I want to do a fall trip up to Piseco-Powley Road, although sometimes those campsites get snapped up quickly during hunting season. 🐿️ That said, my West Virginia trip is early enough in October this year so I might be able to do a late October trip.🍂
I’ve been continuing to research the various Python and Javascript libraries available for interacting with Renology Rover MPPT controller. 🔳 I am increasingly thinking that’s what I will get around Christmas this year, when sales are available, and I want to hook up the Raspberry Pi to use it to broadcast battery status information to my phone using Bluetooth, and then also read data from the starting battery, and dumping excess current into the starting battery to keep it topped up. Using a Raspberry Pi and the MPPT controller could minimize the amount of wires and components I need to build my smart relay, reducing the chance of failure.💻
Today in 1970, Salvador Allende is elected President of Chile. 🇨🇱 Only three years later on September 11th, he would be assassinated with the help of the United States by one of the most notorious tyrants Augusto Pinochet. ✊ The Price is Right went on CBS for the first time in 1972, and over the past five decades hasn’t changed much.🤑 I used to like watching it on my grandfather’s TV some 30 years ago.📺
Also, in 1949 The Peekskill riots were anti-communist race riots directed against African Americans and Jews attending a civil rights benefit concert. 🎷 The catalyst for the rioting was an announced concert by black singer Paul Robeson, who was well known for his strong pro-trade union stance, civil rights activism, communist affiliations, and anti-colonialism.⚖ The concert, organized as a benefit for the Civil Rights Congress, was scheduled to take place on August 27 in Lakeland Acres.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7 PM Sunset 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 84 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.
