Hamilton County

Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. Its county seat is Lake Pleasant. It is one of only two counties that lie entirely within the Adirondack Park (Essex is the other). As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,836, making it the least populous county in New York. It is also the most sparsely populated county in the eastern half of the United States, with a population density of just over three people per square mile.

Hamilton County is in the north central part of the state, northwest of Albany. It lies entirely within Adirondack Park and consists mostly of publicly owned parkland. As the tourist folk will tell you, there is no permanent traffic light in the county.

Campsite 2

I arrived quite late to Moose River Plains on Thursday night, after not getting out of work until well after 5:30 PM. So it was a dark drive up. I did not want to camp at Cedar River Flow, so I drove up the Moose River Plains Road, but it was so dark and late, I decided to get crpa one of the first sites I saw.

Campsite 2 Closer Up

This is campsite two, with the picnic table and fire pit. The outhouse is across the road, and shared between several sites. I didn't find it until I had already dug a cat hole for taking a shit, and burning the toilet paper. The campsite is abutted by the Silver Run (creek).

Trailhead Sign

There is a snowmobile and a separate hiking trail up Owls Head Mountain. I took the hiking trail up, although it looks like per the DEC Land Mapper program, that the snowmobile trail roughly follows it on an old woods road. The snowmobile trail is not visible from the hiking trail in the summertime.
