Another Thursday evening ๐ has come. Tomorrow will be Friday and I guess there is another snow storm coming for Saturday. I’m tired of winter but my hope is this will be the final last big blast. Or maybe not. It could be a bust depending on the model you consider. ๐จ

Earlier today I did my net worth calculation ๐ต and I am finally above water again as I’ve saved some more money and the markets have partially rebounded. ๐ That said, I’m looking at the market fundamentals and corporate profits and the inability of the fed to slow inflation much, I think it might be a another bad year in the market. But I guess I’m acquiring assets for less now that will grow.
Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ ๐ โ, with a high of 40 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2002. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ
In four weeks on March 30 the sun will be setting in the west (276ยฐ) at 7:20 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 60 and 23 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 51 and 31 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1986.
While I’ll probably be working late on March 30th ๐ I am thinking by then I’ll be able many nights be able to walk down to the park ๐ and read after work. ๐ Figure by then even at quarter to eight 8โฃ there will be some daylight.

My thought ๐ญ tonight isthe best laid plans don’t always work out. I was so excited that the DVD ๐ drive enclosure arrived in the mail โ today but when I opened it up I discovered it was for the wrong type of drive. It was only $11.50 and I can probably use the case for something else I guess.
I was so hoping to get the voter file ๐ณ open that the State Board sent me on a DVD ๐ – I actually got the DVD to play on the drive installed on my computer but alas like on the work computer had previously confirmed they sent me a DVD that wasn’t properly written. I also discovered that the built in DVD drive drawer on my computer is broken but I did figure out a way to load disks by manually opening the drive and installing it after disabling the other partition in fstab.
I’m not going to go back to the board for the file. ๐ It just didn’t work out but I guess I probably wouldn’t have discovered much using machine learning to better understand voting patterns. I don’t know enough about machine learning and my computer isn’t that powerful and 318 EDs really isn’t enough to train things well especially if the districts are so blue in much of the county. Statewide data would be better but that a lot of processing.
I am going to still continue to learn about machine learning ๐ค aa I have a few books ๐ out of the library and I am going through the Stat Quest video series on YouTube. I’m sure there are many other ways I can use machine learning in statistics and map making. Plus it’s safer, no risk of running into trouble with work or building something with the voter file that isn’t allowed.

It’s going to snow, it’s winter. โ Probably not good for the morning walk ๐ถ but I’ll get up at my normal time and do my best to keep moving. If it’s bad out I won’t do it but I’ll at least catch an earlier bus ๐ in so I’m in bright and early. I’ve had a 40 day run of 10,000 plus steps or 5 plus miles a day but if the weather interrupts my progress it will be but for a day or two.

Once again I chickened ๐ฅ out and decided to go in early and walk the Concourse with the muzzle on. ๐ท I did walk down to the Park and Ride and am trying to walk faster so hopefully I can avoid walking outside in the evening. It actually wasn’t too bad down to the Park and but when I first got up boy oh boy ๐ง was that wind roaring. Ideally I would have my steps before the end of the work day so I can do them inside but I don’t know if that’s possible. ๐ฃ I’m thinking of walking down to the library ๐ in the evening if necessary to complete today’s walk program.

Amazing how fast the fruits ๐ ๐๐ have disappeared from my office ๐ข. Same thing with the frozen ones at home. I don’t know if I’ve actually lost any weight, my scale at home is broke but I feel a lot more full and eat less at dinner which saves money ๐ต and feel less light headed at times.
Solar noon ๐ is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33ยฐ vs. 6/21). Exploring the Concourse ๐ข I’ve discovered new places to walk ๐ถ like the South Swan Tunnel which has an interesting set of photographs ๐ผ of the Empire State Plaza construction ๐ง and other colorful locations in New York State. I’ve also done the Well of the LOB, Capitol Building and under the Egg. I should think about the forth and fifth floor of the Capitol, if memory serves me right there is an interesting mix of tunnels, stairs and walkways up there. Rainy but mild days I could do the walkway to the Knickerbocker Arena.

I brought the DVD ๐ into work that I got from the NYS BOE with the county voter file, ๐ and the work computer couldn’t read it. I tried pulling the second hard drive on my laptop and putting the DVD drive in it but that didn’t work with either. I’m frustrated as I had great hope to use that data to build turn out models and help local candidates get the voters out they need to succeed using R Studio and machine learning.

I walked down to the Park and Ride today and caught the express from there. I was the only one on the bus today, and I felt guilty for walking and let the bus run empty but one person isn’t going to change much of anything on whether or not the Voorheesville bus has a future, especially the later run.
It’s just tough to rebuild service after the pandemic. Some people close to retirement just hung up their hats after the bus shut down at end of March 2020 and many people now are hybrid workers, working from home a few day a week. I wish that was an option I’d take advantage.
Plus if you take the later express and miss it for some reason, you are screwed and have to call somebody for a ride. Plus getting home at six o’clock or even later kind of sucks so people who have an option don’t do 9-5 but earlier.
At least after a few days of rough starts due to drivers making wrong turns and the closed ramp on 787, things are more on time and moving smoother. It will be interesting to see if bus traffic picks up the meantime or if the extended route will be on the cutting block.
Good evening! Happy Valentines Day Eve. February is halfway done and tomorrow is going to be warm enough to open up the windows and let some fresh air in. That makes me happy.
Mostly clear and 43 degrees for the evening walk ๐ถ here in Delmar. ๐ Calm wind. With those clear skies cooling off quickly. But it will rebound quickly tomorrow as we have our first real spring thaw.
I was pleasantly surprised that I got released at 5 o’clock on this Valentines Day โฅ and was able to take the express bus ๐ home. It’s nice having that option on a session day though who knows how long it will last as there isn’t a lot of riders right now heading out to Slingerlands or Voorheesville at least not on 5 pm bus which is less popular than the earlier express bus. The thing is that some of the former riders retired and more people nowadays are able to do hybrid or work from home ๐ก. Our department wants that option but the people up top say no. Getting hard though to be competitive without that option.
It was annoying this morning that the ramp to 787 was closed again. ๐ง I wish they could wait until the off hours or at least until the end of rush hour. I don’t understand their decision making process on that. To boot the express bus ๐ was 20 minutes late due to the driver making a wrong term. I ended up walking ๐ถ most of the way to the Park and Ride as I wanted to get more steps in and it was a very pleasant morning.
Tonight will have increasing clouds โ, with a low of 31 degrees at 1am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Got paid today ๐ต and it looks like my bills aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I might actually have a bit extra, I might start adding more to the savings account, the first time I’ve saved money in a year but interest rates are going up and I’m concerned more about mid range expenses.
Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ Moon with 33% illuminated. The Worm ๐ Moon is on Thursday, March 2. Been really digging into the ins and outs of machine learning. ๐ค Lately I’ve been about better ways to target ๐ฏ and estimate voting patterns using election results and the enrollment rolls. It would be interesting if you could target based on actual past results and demographics. I have used imputation in the past for making maps and are considering other ways I could use machine learning to better understand data. Decision trees ๐ and random forests are particularly interesting methods.
Tomorrow will be cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th.
