Elm Ave Park and Ride

February 14, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Happy Valentines Day Eve. February is halfway done and tomorrow is going to be warm enough to open up the windows and let some fresh air in. That makes me happy.

Mostly clear and 43 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ here in Delmar. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. With those clear skies cooling off quickly. But it will rebound quickly tomorrow as we have our first real spring thaw.

I was pleasantly surprised that I got released at 5 o’clock on this Valentines Day โ™ฅ and was able to take the express bus ๐Ÿš home. It’s nice having that option on a session day though who knows how long it will last as there isn’t a lot of riders right now heading out to Slingerlands or Voorheesville at least not on 5 pm bus which is less popular than the earlier express bus. The thing is that some of the former riders retired and more people nowadays are able to do hybrid or work from home ๐Ÿก. Our department wants that option but the people up top say no. Getting hard though to be competitive without that option.

It was annoying this morning that the ramp to 787 was closed again. ๐Ÿšง I wish they could wait until the off hours or at least until the end of rush hour. I don’t understand their decision making process on that. To boot the express bus ๐Ÿš was 20 minutes late due to the driver making a wrong term. I ended up walking ๐Ÿšถ most of the way to the Park and Ride as I wanted to get more steps in and it was a very pleasant morning.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 31 degrees at 1am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.

Got paid today ๐Ÿ’ต and it looks like my bills aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I might actually have a bit extra, I might start adding more to the savings account, the first time I’ve saved money in a year but interest rates are going up and I’m concerned more about mid range expenses.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 33% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Thursday, March 2. The darkest hour is at 12:11 am, followed by dawn at 6:26 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:55 am in the east-southeast (107ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:35 am with sun in the east-southeast (114ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over last night.

Been really digging into the ins and outs of machine learning. ๐Ÿค– Lately I’ve been about better ways to target ๐ŸŽฏ and estimate voting patterns using election results and the enrollment rolls. It would be interesting if you could target based on actual past results and demographics. I have used imputation in the past for making maps and are considering other ways I could use machine learning to better understand data. Decision trees ๐ŸŽ„ and random forests are particularly interesting methods.

Tomorrow will be cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒƒ, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2006. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

I think tomorrow will be a good day to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ and let all that fresh air in. ๐Ÿƒ While I’ll probably only open windows without storm windows it should be nice to enjoy the fresh air.

In four weeks on March 14 the sun will be setting in the west (268ยฐ) at 7:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 41 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 44 and 25 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1946.

Starting Up the Spruceton Trail

February 6, 2023 Evening

Good night, Irene ! Been listening to some dangerous music tonight ๐ŸŽถ, namely the Weavers. So dangerous it was black listed for nearly a decade. I don’t get involved in politics but I do like folk music and how naughty it can be when you really listen to the lyrics. ๐Ÿ“ƒ Not that I’m ever naughty on this blog, or play the hillbilly on the internet that I’m not when I’m the stone cold sober all businessperson at work. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ But I still wear my cowboy ๐Ÿค  hat up at camp.

Mostly clear and 30 degrees for my evening walk on this clear moon lit night under the full moon. There is a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 21 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 18 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 15th. Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 98% illuminated. Surprisingly brilliant this evening. At 7 PM, the moon was in the east-northeast (77ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, some 250,435 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 15th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ

The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:36 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:05 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:46 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over last night.

January 20, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Made it through another work week. Clouds and 36 degrees for the evening walk here in Delmar. โ˜๏ธ I was going to go down to the library but in the days of unlimited data on my phone and since the pandemic my habits have changed. I’d rather just do my walk ๐Ÿšถ and retire to bed ๐Ÿ› early.

Truth is I’ve been listening to the Byrds Turn, Turn, Turn a lot today. ๐ŸŽธ I’m a bit saddened by the death of David Crosby but so died Chris Hillman or was it Roger McGuinn not all that long ago? They were the past generation but still a good song more than half a century later. We need more change and new ideas. Mr. Crosby was a character, Crosby Stills and Nash had some good songs and in many ways those album covers are life goals.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 1am, then a slight chance of snow showers between 1am and 2am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 28 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1994.

I don’t think it was a bad week ๐Ÿข with memories of Madison County and the trip the was. Days go by quickly with things so busy. I’m glad I’ve remained healthy with so many out sick. Masks help as do avoiding the crowds. ๐Ÿ‘ช After spending the weekend winter camping I truly did feel like a husky in the heat of the indoors. ๐Ÿถ

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:07 am, followed by dawn at 6:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:21 am in the east-southeast (117ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:04 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 35 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 9th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1990.โ„

Sounds like it will be a good day to hike out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ Maybe a bit sloppy but if I stay on the reinforced trails I think ๐Ÿค” I should be good. Nice thing is now is with the days getting longer I have more time in the afternoon and the Fisher Trail with the sidewalks avoids the narrow shoulders at dusk.

In four weeks on February 17 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (255ยฐ) at 5:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 17 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 24 and 13 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. The record high of 60 degrees was set back in 1981.

January 13, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Friday the 13th ๐Ÿฆนon this Make Your Dream Come True Day. ๐Ÿšœ. Honestly I think superstitions can be kind of silly, but I believe in power of compounding and dividends produced over time. โŒš Everything done today can lead to a better future ๐Ÿ”ฎ if you so choose. You can’t change the past or even the world ๐ŸŒŽ but you can change yourself and future.

Rain showers and 38 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a real soaking rain ๐ŸŒง๏ธ but I decided to skip the 6:45 am morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in favor of catching the earlier express bus ๐Ÿš downtown and walking inside the Concourse with the muzzle on. ๐Ÿ˜ท Last night was also raining so I stayed home ๐Ÿก but I got my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in earlier in the day. That said I’m thinking about increasing my steps goal ๐Ÿฅ… as most days I’m exceeding the goal.

Today will have a chance of rain before 4pm, then a slight chance of showers after 4pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 10am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 9th. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1932. 13.1 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:01 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:45 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 5:15 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:51 pm. Maybe not today though. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph with gusts up to 20mph. Today will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 30 seconds over yesterday.

I was hoping my December electric bill would be under $100 โšก but ultimately it came out to be $101. I forget how cold it was right before Christmas and on the holiday, even though we had that week when I had the heat off. I’m trying to save where I can but it’s hard, especially with inflation and higher energy prices. I guess it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I hate to waste energy.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a chance of snow showers between 7pm and 2am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. North wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 6 degrees. The record low of -24 occurred back in 1957.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Typical for Tomorrow. North wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1932. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1999.โ„

Then for Sunday, sunny, with a high near 34. โ˜€ North wind 10 to 13 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Martin Luther King Day looks to be another winner โ˜€ with a high around 38. Not bad for January at any rate. Still a few weeks off until January.

Should be a good weekend for getting out of town ๐ŸŒฒ but the question on my mind is how far I want to go from. Not a lot of snow around but Saturday is going to be really cold โ„.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 25 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.
