Daily Update – July 15, 2022

Good morning! Happy Friday. β˜€

Sun is bright and warm this morning. Not a whole lot of breeze. It certainly could be a lot more humid and will be come Sunday.

Mostly sunny and 65 degrees at the Downtown Albany. β˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees.

Two weeks from now I should be well on my way to the Finger Lakes. πŸ– I want to leave early so I can start setting up camp by noon β›Ί and have the campsite I want for both weekends. As much as I hate driving that highway between Sidney and Ithaca with gas prices I want to take the most direct route.

Texas Traffic Lights in Albany

Texas-style horizontal traffic lights — this how most traffic lights are aligned in Texas, because they like to be different and they got tired of over-height trucks assaulting traffic lights.
Rare in New York these days, only used in areas when height or sight line issues.

It seems a bit odd to see Albany’s skyline without the ANSWERS smoke-stack

It seems a bit odd to see Albany’s skyline without the ANSWERS smoke-stack … 🏭

Forty years the dirty old and trash burning plants smoke stack remained a fixture of the skyline, a tailpipe of a crude mass-burn garbage machine and later oil-burning factory. It might have been an improvement over the previous heavy-oil burning plant, but hardly was a clean air plant, with emissions equipment limited to the electrostatic precipator and a “high burn temperature” of the millions of tons of heavy, residual fuel oil and shredded garbage. It had minimal pollution equipment that was hardly designed to screen out lead (from solder from burned television sets and scraps of painted wood), polyvinyl chloride packaging and discarded appliances, sulfur-rich industrial wastes and furniture or a dozen other things that you probably shouldn’t burn in mass quantities downtown with minimal pollution controls. You can definitely raise a toast to the end of this terrible dirty era in Capital Region’s history, even if the plant hadn’t burned garbage in 30 years, and hadn’t burned oil in 15 years.

December 3, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 23 degrees at the Downtown Albany. Calm wind. There are 24 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️ Snow melt is probably a good thing. It’s been a big one here in Albany and it’s caused so much delays on the evening commute.

Long day at work but they got us dinner which was nice. 🍲 But the bus was running about ten or fifteen minutes late due to the narrow roads and snow removal efforts. 🚍 At least urban bus stops were pretty clear of snow. Still a real slog home 🏡. That said, I think we made good progress catching up on all the work from the Monday snow day. I could definitely go for the 10 hour workday, four days a week. For a while traffic was completely jammed on Lark Street. ❄ It will get better once the snow emergency is fully underway.

Tonight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 18 degrees at 11pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 24th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 10pm; Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -9 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 58% illuminated with the moon setting at 11:14 pm. The moon will set at 12:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tonight with a slight chance of snow showers. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 7:07 am with the first light at 6:35 am, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 36 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1998. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1901.❄ How little.

I am just glad there are only three more work days left this week. 😴 Between the long day and the evening communte I’m so tired. Maybe it’s also the Lyme medication 💊 I don’t know. I’m many ways it was a tough day but one for a better tomorrow. This commute home is such a slog. Finally made it to Delmar but not until really late.

In four weeks on December 31 the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm,🌄 which is 8 minutes and 47 seconds later then tonight. That’s New Years Eve. And then it will be the shit show known as 2020. But the New Year will bring warmer weather, more opportunities to save and grow, to learn and become a better person. I am already so tired of winter after the long commute home 🏡.

Looking ahead, 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ is in 1 weeks, Christmas Eve 🎅 is in 3 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 4 weeks, Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️ is a month away, Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 is in 6 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 7 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in -1 months.

April 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy April Fools Day 🀑! I think the fool out there, is the person who expects it to be quite warm out this morning. It’s cold. Two weeks to Tax Day πŸ’°. More damage to the budget, although at least tomorrow is pay day. Sunny and thirty degrees here in beautiful Downtown Albany or something like that. β›… Breezy, ️16 mph breeze from the northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 31 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. The current wind chill is 16. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. 🌑️

Definitely a cold but pretty morning. I drove home this morning, then caught the early Voorheesville bus back into the city. 🚍 I wasn’t sure how late I was going to work this morning, after working the previous 24 hours. I did catch some shut eye 😴 under my desk, sleeping next to my phone πŸ“± but I’m still pretty tired. Now I’m taking the local bus outbound back home.

I was actually surprised how much traffic πŸš₯ there was at 6:30 in the morning. But most was inbound. Heading out of the city wasn’t bad and I had time for a little bit of cereal before catching the bus downtown. πŸ›I probably could have just fed the meter for that last hour but honestly I didn’t know how much longer I would have been at work and I figured I should drive home when I was still somewhat awake after my last nap and caffeine shot. Definitely a busy night last night at work with a lot of twists and turns.

Turned out to be a very beautiful day. 😎 Maybe a bit too much sun for the first day of trout season 🐑but maybe I’ll head out later after I get some sleep, do some hiking then fishing. It depends on how I feel after sleeping in my own bed. I don’t know, experience shows recovery from sleep deprivation takes time and I’m not sure how I’ll feel this afternoon.

Today will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 18th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1924.❄

The sun will set at 7:21 pm with dusk around 7:49 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 21 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 3rd. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1964. Going to be a cold night to kick off April.

I’m glad April is finally here. 🌷In the city by the end of the month we will start seeing some green and a moderating of the temperatures. While my heat is on now, I think by tomorrow it should be off for the forsseeable future. Two weeks and two days from now I’ll probably be out camping β›Ί. I’ll be spending more of my weekends in the wilderness which will be nice.

Not quite as nice with April underway is that there are 2 weeks until Tax Day πŸ’° when the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had freezing rain showers, cold, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 36 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003.

In conclusion, I got some sleep last night πŸŒƒ but I still feel very sleep deprived, achy and sore. But that comes with the territory. I’m still working hard for a better tomorrow for myself and some personal discomfort maybe what is necessary to looking towards the future. I’ll rest up when I get home, the aches will go away.
