After a quiet start to the week usually the second half of the week is busy. With only six weeks left until the end of the legislative session, and lots of committee meeting next week I’m sure it will be a busy few days.

With the remaining clumbs of snow ❄ around and the strong winds 🌬️ it feels more like a March morning than April but the snow is already disappearing quickly. Still a ton of snow up north and in the hill towns but it’s not expected to last too far into next week. At least I’m not trudging through the slop down to the express bus 🚍 this morning. Sidewalks are clear and dry already. Big Red still has a lot of snow on him. 🛻
With the wind 🌬️ and the clouds and general dampness from the melting snow 🌨 its a rather bitterly cold morning for late April. I guess cold April’s aren’t uncommon in Albany, indeed it’s the month warming the slowest of any month of the year.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for winter to be done and maybe get up to the Adirondacks before the black flies are out.🐜 Maybe next weekend. With the cold spring it just seems like it so tardy this year.
Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Virtual Dinner, 🌲 actually just a Zoom presentation by Tina Liberman about Down To Earth: Practical Steps You Can Take to Reduce Carbon Emissions & Save Our Climate. I’ll be attending but I’m afraid it mostly will be a sales pitch about greeny products you can buy to feel green. I think rather then buying greenie products, the best thing to do is just buy nothing at all.
46 degrees later today, is a reminder that is still middle-to-late April. Not warm, but nothing is going to preserve the snow, as the low tonight is a chilly 36 degrees but that’s still well above freezing. 51 degrees with sun but blustery tomorrow, which will attack the snow in multiple ways and get things looking like spring quickly. The weekend is looking pretty good, although I don’t think I’ll be able to get out of town this weekend.

After that eighty degrees day last week, that wind seems so cold. I was up early to walk 🚶 out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center but I decided it was too cold and clouded up before my coffee ☕ was done.
We will have to watch the weather on Monday and I’m sure I’ll need the heated blanket tonight although not cold enough to warrant turning on the heat. But once I get home tonight, Big Red will probably be parked until Thursday when the Pine Bush Hike is. I’ll go shopping then too and probably have to get some gas.

Easter is late this year but spring didn’t beat it. 🌸 Of course hitting eighty degrees last week on the day I was busy with work didn’t help much. Good Friday was nice but I was tired 😴 and didn’t get out to enjoy Five Rivers as much as I wanted.
Yesterday afternoon and evening absolutely poured 🌧️ so I never made it to the library 📚 as planned but the cans and bottles ↘ got recycled and I had a nice walk 🚶 at Hollyhock. 🐦 It was cold damp and windy so not a lot of birds. Tossed in a fishing 🎣 line for a bit.
While I took tomorrow off, 🗻 having stayed in town this weekend I think I’ll just go into the office 🏢 downtown. Save the day for nicer weather, maybe in May.
Easter dinner with the folks this evening 🍲 and then I’m thinking of hiking Blodgett Hill this evening. Officially the trail is closed due to logging but there won’t be any logging on Easter 🎋and it would be interesting to see what trees are being cut and if the state foresters are taking steps to minimize harm. I’m hoping to see them doing more mechanical removal to reduce the fuel load and be preparing for another controlled burn of the scrub oak pitch pine ecosystem up top.
Next weekend I have a family 👪 gathering so I can’t head out of town but maybe the following weekend. Who knows after tomorrow their might be a ton of snow 🌨 up north although I can’t imagine it will last. I’m hoping that last weekend of April to get out of town. ⛺
