Delmar, NY

Good morning! No rain yet, we but we know what’s coming. ⛈

Maybe we won’t get as much rain as up north, and no snow but it is hardly going to be a banner day. I do hope to do some hiking at Hollyhock or maybe Blodgett Hill.

Clouds and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁️ There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 11 pm. Then cold and windy tomorrow for Easter with clouds.

What can I say, Easter might be late 🐰 but that’s not guarantee of nice weather. I have a family obligation next weekend so I can’t get out of town, but maybe the following weekend I’m hoping. 😎 The thing is at this point the weather is only going to get warmer and nicer, although that also means the black flies will be awakening soon 🐜 and I want to get at least one spring weekend in the Adirondacks before the black flies are out.

I am heading to the transfer station to drop off my recyclables ♻️ and be green and things like that. I’ve sorted out everything carefully, put a nice bow on it, have my $6 ready, and will put everything in the proper dumpsters to be green. As dubious as I may be about it all, I really needed to empty my trash cans 🥫 of metals and glass so might as well recycle plastics too.

I am hoping that the rain will hold off for a few hours, 🌧 so I can enjoy a few hours in the woods 🐦 looking at the birds and enjoying the spring time weather, although I think sun will be hard to come by. But still Hollyhock is nice. I might do Blodgett Hill, it’s a much more vigorous hike, but it’s sort of out of the way compared to Hollyhock which is just down the road form the transfer station.

Yesterday I sanded and primed my truck. Next time I have a nice weekend I’ll sand the primer down with fine grain sand paper then use the duplicate color to cover it. 🛻 Doesn’t have to perfect but I want to slow the growth of the rust holes. That said, the areas I worked on last year really did stop the cancer ♋ in its tracks. Rust belt life sucks.

I spent most of the evening and night 🌃 reading a library book about Javascript. I’ve been using that language on and off since high school to build my blog 📚 but my knowledge is pretty vague of modern Javascript and the techniques widely used today with nodejs.

I should have gone for my walk 🚶 yesterday as it was a pretty nice day but in the evening it got dark and cloudy ⛅ and painting the truck, sorting recyclables ♻ and reading 📖 took the balance of the day. I still do pretty good most days for walking and I expect I will close out the month of April averaging more than 10,000 steps per day. 👣

Good morning! Well, plans change. 😞

I was all packed for heading up to the Adirondacks, until I looked at the forecast which is calling for rain and wind by afternoon, followed by wet snow most of tomorrow, then cold and cloudy come Sunday with a strong wind. And red flag conditions and I like to burn things. Yeah, that’s not going to work.

Mostly sunny and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. 😎 Calm wind.

So yeah, I packed all my clothes, food and camping gear last night, 🏕 and now I got to unpack them today. It’s a disappointing because it looks like such a nice day today.

I am a really bummed about not heading out of town, 🙁 but sitting in a cold rain and snow, and cloudy days doesn’t sound like much. It will be raining in a few hours this afternoon in the Adirondacks with the wind expected to bring lake-effect showers off the lake and push them into the Adirondacks.

Instead, I am working on a new plan for today. I want to do some reading, 📚 sand and prime my truck from the winter rust damage, 🚛 and finish sorting the recycables ♻️ for a trip to the transfer station on Saturday. Some of that paper and plastic I was going to burn, I am going to do the green and legal thing and recycle. 🌲 I mean Earth Day is coming 🌎 and some of that plastic stuff can stink like burn barrel especially if it’s not burning well 🔥 and it’s a cold and rainy day. Maybe some of it being recycled will end up as plastic board or paperboard, although with the escalating costs at the transfer station makes me cynical about that point.  But at least it has a chance of getting diverted from the landfill, and won’t necessarily all be turned into CO2. 💨 Plus I have a years worth of cans to recycle. 🥫

I am thinking mid-to-later in the day I will walk out to Five Rivers. 🐸 The trails will probably be soggy but I can get in a lot of steps on Meads Road, then some of the paved or gravel roads at Five Rivers. SIt and listen to the spring peepers for a bit, probably see some deer and birds. I wonder if there will be as many red-winged black birds out that way — I haven’t been seeing as many locally, 🕊 although most mornings I’ve been hearing the mourning doves around and they are loud.
