Now is the time to check how many fingers you have π
For the first time in generations, there has not been a time when so many Americans have lawful access to consumer fireworks and sparklers and the ability to legally drive on highways a 70 mph or faster. More states are legalizing cannabis products and the Supreme Court seems to finally protect and enforce the second.
Good morning, America πΊπΈ ! 247 years going strong, only three more before a quarter millennium has come and gone. Have fun with your fireworks and remember as the sign says, you are responsible for your own safety, not some government worker.
Cloudy and 68 degrees for the morning walk. β Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggers and the sultry weather will be sticking around for a while. The skies will clear around 1 pm. Air quality is moderate around 55.
Already a rather muggy day and it will be hot by evening π° but it should be be a nice one for fireworks π and barbecues. π I’m out for my morning walk πΆ a little later than normal but earlier than over the long weekend. I had my hard boiled egg π₯ and black coffee β, I am thinking about having a those π banana oatmeal pancakes π₯ I make in the food processor topped with strawberries. π
Independence Day will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Otherwise, partly sunny π¦, with a high of 84 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 104 was set in 1911.
Yesterday after spending too much time working on my old jalopy of a bicycle π π² I ended up going for a delightful walk πΆ out to Bender Mellon Preserve. π¦ π¦ Lots of birds and butterflies and flowers πΌ, I made sure to stay out of the poison ivy. Kind of a hot and humid day but the rail trail is quite shaded and I was back home before the thunderstorms β came rolling through. 8.8 miles walked πΆ for the day.
Solar noon π is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.3Β° from the due south horizon (-0.5Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour π starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 26 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for rain π§ and thunderstorms π© and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 50 seconds over yesterday.

On this day in 1776, The United States Declaration of Independence is adopted by the Second Continental Congress. 51 years later, slavery would be banned in New York State in 1821. Starting the day after Independence Day 1967, you would be able to FOIL the Federal Government, after U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into law on July 4, 1966. Then citizens could request information on how much the federal government spent on fireworks the night before.

Wouldn’t be a bad weekend as it stands for heading out of town π² but I have a feeling I won’t be as I’m kind of busy and really want to take delivery of a bicycle π² next weekend. Saves money π΅ to stay home plus the following week is my dentist appointment π¦· so it would make sense to head out after that.
Looking ahead, next Tuesday is World Population Day π©βπ©βπ§βπ§ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. The thunderstorms at least will be booming. On that day in 2022, we had hot weather, partly sunny and temperatures between 91 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1936.
Natural Gas is Fueling Our Economy
I just saw an ad that said “natural gas is fueling the economy”.Β β½ But so is heroin and cocaine, too. People make a lot money selling heroin and cocaine, creating good paying jobs, so it must be good for our country. π
Now we just need government to get out of the way, and make it easier to sell heroin and cocaine with fewer regulations, so the drug-dealing businessman re-invest and expand their businesses to create more good paying jobs.

The Future
Futuristic things are the first things to become badly outdated.
Eat more eggs? π₯
It’s something I’ve been literally chewing over lately. Egg prices have come down a lot and eggs really fill you up for a long time due to their combination of protein and saturated fats at a relatively low caloric impact. They are sugar free but rich in vitamins so no morning sugar crash.
The flip side is well known about eggs. They’re loaded with cholesterol, eating two eggs a day puts you over what the Agriculture Department recommends for healthy levels of cholesterol in a day. Eggs are mostly Omega 6 fats which aren’t great either. Pastured raised eggs like folks who use chicken tractors are better but most of the eggs I’m getting these days are almost entirely grain fed.
Hard boiled eggs are great when cooked perfectly to the recipe but still a bit hard to peel. The trick is to watch the stove for as soon as it rolling boils, and then take it off burner immediately thereafter and let cool for no more or no less than 10 minutes then immediately rinse in cold water and refugerate. Sometimes especially after the cold bath they do peel better. But I sure hate biting into an egg shell as I have too many memories of real chicken shit covered eggs growing up in the country.
I’ve been adding many mornings a hard boiled egg with black coffee before my morning walk especially if I’m planning Ina carbohydrates rich breakfast like oatmeal or banana pancakes. Probably from a calorie to protein ratio I would be better with Greek yogurt or cottage cheese but I like to mix it up.
You can guess what I’m messing around with this morning π²
Lol, lol, lol. I actually got all the spokes threaded back properly after months of on and off set backs and now I’m now up to the point of trueing the wheel when I broke a spoke nub. The inexpensive ones that came with the spokes I bought are complete junk that don’t even fit the spoke key but one I find my needle nose pliers I’ll reinstall the ones previously on the bicycle. At least I’m learning a lot about bike spokes and wheels.
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Office is closed for the holiday but not the library. Cloudy and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. π. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 pm.
I am finally getting out walking πΆ. I six 8.6 miles yesterday mostly in the afternoon at the Town Park π but also I ended up doing an evening walk πΆ and then reading π a book about the housing crisis and reading up on bicycles until midnight when I went to bed π with complete frustration about it all. Pretty depressing subject was that book I was reading. It’s why I’m focused on saving money π΅ and investing in my future to protect myself from the evils of society.
I read up and discovered some more downsides of that Jamis Citizen 2 bicycle I had previously looked at – it’s heavy, and the super soft suspension might be comfortable but it’s not good for long rides. π² Plus I am having second thoughts about spending so much on something that is ultimately going to break down and isn’t going to be good on the rougher trails. Plus how would it good would it be on dirt roads with gravel? And plus I’m not sure how good of a bicycle it is – the local shop sells them but I almost never see anybody riding them – everybody locally rides Trek, Specialized or Giant. While brands aren’t everything they can be a mark of quality.
Today will have a slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 27th. Maximum dew point of 71 at 4pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1911.
Assuming the weather is decent, I am thinking about an afternoon hike πΆ out to Five Rivers. I do need to keep an eye out for thunderstorms β‘. Rice and lentils with peas are cooking up this week. π I took salmon out of the freezer for dinner tonight.
