March 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Snow and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a north-northeast breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️It seems like we got a lot more snow than expected. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around 3 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Its been so chaotic with all the changes due to social distancing πŸ‘ΎI ended up missing the virtual conference call I had for Save the Pine Bush tonight. πŸ“ž Never crossed my mind, listening πŸ‘‚ to the presidents press conference. It’s good that he’s pushing reopening the country and putting people back to work after this brief pause in society for social distancing and slowing the spread of Coronavirus. We need to get moving again even if it hurts the elderly and frail people. πŸ‘΄ It’s more important to help families get back to work and health care has had an additional two weeks to prepare for Coronavirus. 😷

I rode the exercise bike 🚲 for about 45 minutes while listening to the president and then worked on some maps. I worked from home today 🏑 after getting chilled through down in the library parking lot working from my truck until the battery started to get low with no solar and the roads started to get icy.

The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:53 am in the east (88Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:31 am with sun in the east (94Β°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

I think it’s good that the president is prioritizing getting the economy going again. πŸ’°

Protecting the public health is important as is keeping senior citizens and vulnerable citizens but so is economic growth and providing essential services, protecting democracy and tax revenues to local government.

Social distancing not only has an economic cost, it is very detrimental to our civic institutions and communities. It an evil that should go away as soon as possible while still protecting the public’s health through commonsense measures like encouraging people to wash their hands, providing hand sanitizer and cleaning door knobs and providing a few more weeks of isolation for the eldery and frail. It should be remembered as just an unfortunate action that had to be taken for a short period of time to protect our most vulnerable.

Magnificent White Pine Stand

On top of Cole Hill near the Cole Farm, there is a portion of 1930s reforested White Pines, planted to hold down the soil and also provide a crop for the pulp and paper industry. This is similar to the area recently clear cut, in an effort to get more natural and desirable hardwoods to replace them.
