How I have no idea where I am going tommorow aka my Good Neighbor Sam Problem
I keep hearing Take Me Home Country Roads on the radio and are thinking about West Virginia. I open up Facebook and every time I look their is a beautiful picture of West Virginia. It’s like I’m being stalked by the billboards in Good Neighbor Sam.
I really do kind of want to go there but it’s such a long trip and the days are short now and gas prices are so high.
But I keep telling myself that it’s not to late to change my mind – I can cancel my camping permit for Hicks Run Campground later in the week. The gas might be more expensive but it’s unlikely to be more than a hundred dollars more than what I last budgeted for in previous years. The new tires are ordered for my truck – they’re getting replaced and the old ones should hold up for another 1,500 miles as need be. My anxiety about icy roads or my truck breaking down is just that – not really grounded in reality.
I bet Dolly Sods Wilderness is relatively quiet this time of year. The autumn crowds are long gone. Might be pretty on cold mornings with the frost. Likewise the same with the mountain laurel around Canaan Heights. I’ve always wanted to explore more of the Otter Creek Wilderness.
I don’t know though. I still like the idea of less driving and more relaxing and hiking – at the Finger Lakes National Forest via like Long Pond or maybe Stoney Pond and then down via the Cuyler Valley to the Finger Lakes. I had a lot of fun in Cazenovia last autumn in November. Walk some of the dirt roads maybe harvest some protein. But at the same time I’m kind of bored with the Finger Lakes – I feel like I was just there a few weeks ago. It also would be nice to spend some time down in Elk County PA, I’ve only passed through there a few times – only camping there once. I’d love to listen to buggle of the elk and watch them on a foggy morning through my binoculars. I’ve already picked out some scenic vista’s, trails and historic sites I want to explore.
