October 30, 2016 Night

I hate to say it, but we are heading into the coldest, most brutal part of the year. Short days and the frigid temperatures of winter are heading towards us. Come January though, the daylight increases and come February the mercury increases.

There is no avoiding these awful climate normals, sunset times, and length of day for next four months in North Syracuse…

October 30, 2016 Morning

Good morning! National Candy Corn Day Day. I actually like Candy Corn quite a bit. I know a lot of people don’t and it will probably rot your teeth. But then again we all wear out and die eventually. Cloudy and 50 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. We might actually see some sun tomorrow, with clearing expected around Monday at 7 am. That would be good for a change, as lately the weather has been so depressing.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 1pm. Generally cloudy and cool. We’ve reached the high for today — about 50 degrees. Six degrees below normal. Decreasing temperatures throughout the day. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Generally more shitty weather. Last year was a little nicer with partly cloudy conditions with a high around 54. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. There was 0.1 inches of snow back in 1925.

Didn’t sleep well last night. I woke up early around 5 AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. Ended up watching several Youtube videos and never getting back to bed. But I guess now I’m plenty jacked up on coffee for a while. I am just impressed with the videos that show how fast laptops be boot up with SSD drives. So be it. I will hopefully won’t crash too much later from a lack of sleep once the caffeine wears off.

The laptop I was looking at is no longer on sale, but I’m sure if I shop around I might be able to find a better price — I actually did find one for $533 refurbished, which might be worth a second look. I’ve generally had good results with refurbished products and they do save a lot of money. I really do like that laptop, which folds over as a tablet with a touch screen high-resolution screen that is perfect for map making with QGIS. It’s so nice and will be fast with SSD making maps.

Tomorrow I’m having them do the brakes and rotating the tires. Hopefully just new pads, as I haven’t let them go too far as I haven’t heard the wear indicators. I probably wait a few more months, but it’s cheaper to replace the pads early then have to replace the rotators. I want to have good brakes for vacation in two weeks.

The sun will set at 5:57 pm with dusk around 6:27 pm, which is 1 minutes and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 19 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have some scattered showers, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy but clearing late. Low of 37 degrees at 6am.Β Not too cold. Two degrees above normal. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. One year ago, partly cloudy with a low around 28. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

Next Sunday, Daylight Savings Time Ends and its the Last Day with 10 Hours of Daylight when the sun will be setting at 4:48 pm with dusk at 5:18 pm (Standard Time). Don’t forget to set your clock back an hour and enjoy that extra hour of rest, right before Election Day. The average high temperature is 52 degrees, with a record high of 73 in 2015.

There are 8 days, 10 hours and 33 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day. Day by day things are starting to wind down and come to their logical conclusion. Most campaigns will be starting their Get Out the Vote operations this week, and then the big day will be hear, followed by a week of commentary and analysis on what the election means to us all, as I sit in the woods next to a campfire, drinking beer.
