Good evening! Partly clear and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. π. Temperatures are dropping quickly tonight, I wore a t-shirt π out hiking earlier but by evening heading home it was cold enough to warrant turning on the heat in the truck.
Sunday dinner at the parents house was good. π Mom and dad made spaghetti and meatballs, only the way a mother could make them. Yummy π. I also got the inside of the truck picked up, floors vacuumed and things cleaned up a bit around the apartment. This week after work I’ll work on packing and finalizing organizing for vacation. πΌ Blodgett Hill was pretty neat to explore, I’d like to explore it more come the winter or maybe next year.
I rode the exercise bike π² for a while while watching YouTube after getting home from the folks house π‘. Now I’m laying back in bed working on the blog post. My neighbor isn’t home so I don’t have to worry about the noise from the bike. π Took a sleeping pill π and I have set alarm β° for 6:30 in the morning so I can drop off the truck in the morning. The wheel noise has gotten louder, I’m pretty sure it’s a failing wheel bearing but I’ll let the mechanic figure it out π§and not guess myself. Hopefully it will get fixed and vacation will go well.
Tonight will be partly cloudy π€, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 10th. North wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.
Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon π with 8% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:55 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with showers likely. The Hunter Moon π is on Saturday, October 12th. Perfect timing for my trip. The sun will rise at 6:50 am with the first light at 6:22 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. π Tonight will have 12 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 68 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming south in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1905.
Midweek looks like it will be quite rainy. π¦ We could use the rain. West Virginia is particularly dry but the fire risk is still quite low probably because the Mountain Laurel stores a lot of moisture and the fields are still quite green. No fire bans down there, I checked π₯. Not sure how good the colors will be down there. ππ
I am thinking about visiting Hyner View on the way down to West Virginia next Sunday but I might wait until the trip back north just because I don’t know how good the colors will be there πbut it should be good by Columbus Day Weekend. Plus it’s a bit out of the way and I’m probably going to be a rush to get down to West Virginia. First few nights in West Virginia I’ll probably be Cannan Heights.
In four weeks on October 27 the sun will be setting at 5:55 pm,π which is 45 minutes and 31 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 43 and 37 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 56 and 36 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1963.
Looking ahead, Average High is 60 π is in 2 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends π₯οΈ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 π is in 6 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone π¦ is in 7 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ποΈ is in 2 months, December π is in 9 weeks, Bill of Rights Day π is in 11 weeks, Days are Getting Longer βοΈ is in 12 weeks, National Pie Day π° is in 16 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk π is in 17 weeks, 37th Birthday π is in 4 months.
Walmart 2-Day Shipping
I don’t have an Amazon subscription, because there normally isn’t that much i like to order online, but lately I’ve discovered the wonders of Walmart 2-day free shipping with a $35 purchase. It’s kind of nice to be able order things — products like blue jeans π or pancake mix π³ — without having to worry about them not having your size and knowing the exact price before you check out.
Changing Of The Seasons
Summer will not last, the colors are already changing.

Cars are lasting longer than ever. While that's good for owners, it’s bad for the interior of the vehicle, where stains, cracks and outmoded electronics can undermine the overall driving experience.
So automakers and suppliers are being forced to rethink the way they make everything, from seat fabrics to door coatings to infotainment systems. Everything must be designed for the long haul.
