February 21, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 38 degrees on this Tuesday evening for the walk. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. They were talking about rain but I havenโ€™t gotten wet yet. Did rain a bit earlier looking out my office window.

It was a busy day at work ๐Ÿข followed by a busy day of projects at home. But I managed to get in more than 17k steps today. You get the steps in early then there are more opportunities to get steps in later in the day. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 9pm, then gradually ending. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29llgl degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

I was surprised to open my mail ๐Ÿ“ฎ and see the State Board of Elections sent me the Albany County Voter File on a DVD ๐Ÿ“€. Didnโ€™t charge for it either. I had assumed that it would be a drop box link ๐Ÿ”— to download. Of course itโ€™s a bit of a problem as my computer no longer had a DVD player installed as my other hard drive is there. I didnโ€™t know people used DVDs with bandwidth being so cheap. I feel silly for only requesting just the county file ๐Ÿ“‚ and not the state. But I only really plan to model on county data and help local candidates this year. Next year Iโ€™ll get the state file.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 4% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 30 seconds earlier ggGt porthan yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:24 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Working on another mapping project ๐Ÿ—บ for another local environment group. ๐ŸŒŽ This is kind of a fun project looking at potential routes for a bike ๐Ÿšฒ trail. Itโ€™s a little different than another one Iโ€™m doing with calculating distance of houses from a local hazardous waste site.โ˜ฃ๏ธ Government databases and some statistical programming has gotten so powerful in recent years.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 41 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

This week marks a week until spring ๐ŸŒท though Iโ€™m sure it will get cold before then. But who knows itโ€™s been a mild winter. Based on past experiences I donโ€™t think it will get particularly warm out until about two months out from now.

In four weeks on March 21 the sun will be setting in the west (271ยฐ) at 7:09 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 63 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1921.

 Escarptment on Clear Winter Afternoon

February 21, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly clear and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

This morning is a struggle to get going ๐Ÿ˜ด but Iโ€™m rolling along out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. The forecast and everything else is going to make getting the steps in a bit of a challenge each day but Iโ€™m moving and will do my best. Always can take an earlier express bus ๐Ÿš in and do the Concourse if needed.

Not a pay week and quiet walking ๐Ÿšถ past the high school ๐Ÿšธ as the schools are on February break. But I would not say itโ€™s February break in the office ๐Ÿข, we are quite busy despite being casual dress. I need my coffee โ˜• just like an addict this morning after cutting back so much in recent weeks to save money and improve health. I kind of fell off the wagon in all ways possible this weekend up in Madison County.

Today will rain and snow likely before 5pm, then rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 39 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 25th. Light and variable wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2018. 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 36.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-34.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:56 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (257ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:35 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡

At dusk youโ€™ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at an altitude of 14ยฐ from the horizon, 230,305 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:36 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. Not much of a sunset Iโ€™ll be probably taking express all the way home. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow before 8pm, then a slight chance of snow between 8pm and 9pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

Winter sort of returns for the weekend. โ„ Itโ€™s relative thing and we a little over a week from March. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 26. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

Iโ€™m not planning any trips until the time change ๐Ÿ•’ at this point but itโ€™s only three 3โƒฃ weeks away. Two weekends if thatโ€™s what you count. Iโ€™m ready for winter to fade away as a memory.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:44 pm with dusk at 6:11 pm. Almost seems like looking back with the recent weather. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1903.
