Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Final Friday of August, September starts Tuesday. Such an odd year. Next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins. π¨βπ Get your cutting torch out. Partly cloudy and 63 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. β Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 am.
Today will have patchy fog before 9am. Seems about right, the sun is breaking out now. Otherwise, partly sunny π, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.
I have that Zoom Meeting this morning at 10 am π€³π» so I probably should shave and maybe shower πΏ so I don’t look like the dirty hick that I am. π¨βπΎ It’s a nice enough morning I’m tempted to drive down to the park π and do it there rather than the library. I think π€ it might be a more comfortable place to do it.
Solar noon π is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.9Β° from the due south horizon (-13.9Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:00 pm with the sun in the west (278Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The days are rapidly getting shorter now. At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous π Moon in the south-southeast (157Β°) at an altitude of 20Β° from the horizon, 236,342 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:42 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds π§, with a low of 63 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.
On this day in 1968, where the riots during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. π΄ Hubert Humphrey would go on to be nominated president and say lots of silly quotes. The Yippees had some great protests βπ»βπΏ and really put a bright public spotlight on some very valid concerns about the war. π₯
Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. π§ High of 78 degrees at 2pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 72 at 1pm. ποΈ Muggy but wet so hardly beach weather. South wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2018.
Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. πNorthwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.
I am hoping in two weeks after the Labor Day Holiday π to get up north and camp in the Spectulator area for an extended weekend and work from the Spectulator Library if we have some nice weather. By then I think the crowds will have cleared out. I do think Labor Day Weekend will be crazy π€ͺ so I’ll probably spend that weekend either at home or maybe hammock or tent camping at a state forest somewhere. Never been one for crowds but with the pandemic I’m shunning them even more. βΊ
I was reading π more of that backyard pig πfarming group I’m a member of on Facebook. π Apparently a lot of pigs don’t like citrus and they can be quite picky eaters. π½οΈ You can’t feed a pig everything that is wet and won’t burn well in your burn barrel. π₯ But most of that other stuff rots or chickens π will like it for a treat. Between using paper for bedding, feeding scraps and reusing plastic containers there is a lot one can do to reduce the amount of trash π going up in smoke π on a homestead.
As previously noted, next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins π¨βπ when the sun will be setting at 7:24 pm with dusk at 7:52 pm. On that day in 2019, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

Well, the 2020 national political conventions are over.
The Republicans wrapped up Thursday night, and there was a lot to digest, not least a clearer sense of what the post-Labor Day sprint is going to look and sound like.
