So I got reading about the Libertarian Party candidate for president
So I got thinking about the Libertarian Party candidate for president … π½
I’ve made no real decision on who I’m going to vote for this November but I did vote Larry Sharpe, Libertarian for Governor in 2018 and Jill Stein Green for President in 2016. But I’m no fan of Howie Hawkins although I do think I may have cast a vote for him when he ran for State Comptroller as I like his divestment message.
I voted for President Obama in 2012, but I’m not really into major party politics but I did like some of the practical things he did in the White House. Maybe Joseph Biden would be like Obama, but Biden is so elderly and I think we need fresh ideas. But I do like Biden’s pragmatism – his age 60 for Medicare and legalizing Cannabis are good ideas in my book. His climate change plans are realistic, he would be an effective advocate for conservation and more renewable energy. I’m not allergic to Trump as the liberals but I wish he had been more competent when it came to Coronavirus and more forceful at pushing back on social distancing.
So that leaves the Libertarian candidate for president. I don’t know much about him or his policy positions but I’m learning more. Probably Biden is better than Trump, but I don’t know and honestly my vote doesn’t matter as Biden will win New York. That said, I do hope there are checks and balances in congress – I think we need to have somebody who can say no to the excess of the White House.
I have time to decide… π
Yeah for the Third Parties !
I was reading about the local elections in Britain and how more and more people are choosing third parties for their local representative. I think it’s exciting to think that alternatives to mainstream parties are being considered more often. I would hope there would be more choices then the Democratic and Republican Parties in America — and alternatives to just fusion voting for the major party candidates.
I know I usually vote third party — in 2016, I voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein for President and in 2018 I voted for Libertarian Larry Sharpe for Governor. You can say the stakes were rather low in those elections — Andrew Cuomo was destine to beat Marc Molinaro for the Governors race, and the electoral college meant my vote for Jill Stein wasn’t going to change the election for president, with Hillary being the local favorite for deep-blue New York.
I think we need a small government party, one that believes in seriously cutting the size of government, while addressing the serious problems facing our country and our world — namely climate change and deficit spending. I want leaders who support a carbon tax, while cutting taxes and fees on investments and the ordinary commerce of life. I would support ending the tax on long-term capital gains, in favor of a strong carbon tax. I want politicians to represent me that want to cut police and military, to reduce the number of laws needing enforcement, and making life easier for average Amrericans.

More than 3.4 million homeowners are temporarily skipping their mortgage payments because they've lost income during the pandemic. Under the CARES Act rescue package passed by Congress, affected homeowners can skip or delay payments for up to a year.
Jasmine's husband Frank Gullo works for the Long Island Rail Road, which cut back his hours. Even with Jasmine's unemployment money, the couple says they're still making thousands of dollars less a month. So they called up their lender, Freedom Mortgage.
"They told me, yes, you can skip three months' payments," Frank says. "But then they told me there was a balloon payment at the end of it." He was told after three months, they'd have to come up with all the money for those skipped payments. So they'd suddenly owe four months of mortgage payments all at once — $14,000.
Screen Houses!
Screen Houses! πͺ
That’s the proper term for the picnic table what I’m looking to get before Memorial Day Weekend. I just want a place I can sit during black fly season and read, listen to a podcast, hang out or cook a meal without getting eaten alive by black flies.
I’ve seen a lot of people with them and I’ve wanted to get one for some time but I haven’t done so yet. But I’m researching this further and it looks like I can have a quality screen house for much more comfort during Memorial Day Weekend and rainy days during my summer camping trip. It looks like I get a quality model for under $200 and I’ve been saving my Christmas and birthday money from my parents for this purpose.
I just hate those days when I’m cooped up in the truck cap when the black flies are intense or it’s drizzling and a screen house might be a lot more protective than a tarp hung off the trees. I could hang a string of Christmas lights inside for a relaxing evening especially if it’s buggy.
This is the week I should decide, to ensure it arrives by Memorial Day Weekend in three weeks.
