November 30, 2019 Afternoon

Mostly clear and 36 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Nice and quiet down here by the Vlomans Kill but the breeze does make it a bit cool. ๐Ÿ’จ

Nice to be out in the woods although theyโ€™re a lot of people at Five Rivers but few where I am right now. I do wish I was up in the Adirondacks or maybe drove out to Partridge Run but I didnโ€™t want to bother the deer hunters putting food on the table for their family. I do love ๐Ÿ˜ the rural and remote country out by Huntersland ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ, I might go skiing ๐ŸŽฟ out there come the winter. Just too much noise and people in the city.

I do love that landscape way out in the country behind Rensselaerville State Forest and Partridge Run. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒThe lonely houses, ๐Ÿก the smell of the horses and the cows ๐Ÿด and wood smoke. Itโ€™s like transitioning back to an earlier time. A lot of beautiful country and people out that way. Reminds me of growing up in Westerlo. ๐Ÿšœ

The Adirondacks probably wasnโ€™t a practical option after all, ๐Ÿ—ป it would have been very cold today and especially tonight with the mercury having a run towards zero. It may start snowing tomorrow early and Iโ€™m already tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of winter driving.

Plus Iโ€™m feeling the Lyme symptoms again ๐ŸŽฏin the cold. I feel a bit achy in the cold. But itโ€™s nice being away for a little while out for my walk before dark. ๐Ÿšถ Heading to my parents house for Sunday dinner a day early, going to wash the truck in the morning and park it in its winter spot.

November 30, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ! Getting my hair cut. Three weeks to First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ. Mostly sunny and 31 degrees at Dons Barber Shop. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Kind of a cold but clear winter day. I know itโ€™s only going to get colder come real winter. But Iโ€™m not ready to accept winter yet.

Getting my hair cut ๐Ÿ’ˆ this morning, then Iโ€™m going to run to the store and get toilet paper ๐Ÿšฝ and drain cleaner and other supplies for the week. Little things but Iโ€™ll be glad once the bathroom sink is working properly and I donโ€™t feel like a long haired hippie. ๐Ÿ’‡

Iโ€˜m thinking about going to Walmart tomorrow and washing the truck ๐Ÿ›€ tomorrow before parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ it for the snow storm. I really need to get a replacement cradle for my phone in my truck and I donโ€™t want to wait for AliExpress. ๐Ÿ“ฑWhile Iโ€™m there Iโ€™ll also pick up some bulk containers of drain solvent โ€“ bigger than the one I have now because I find at least once a month I need some drain solvent in the bathroom sink to keep it working well. And thatโ€™s with a hair stopper on all the drains. Plumbing in rental apartments are always shitty at least the cheap place I live in.

The Doxycline seems to make me feel incredibly sick at times ๐Ÿ’Š after I first take it in the morning on the an empty stomach. For a few minutes this morning I felt like I was going to puke over the floor. Also I had a headache again for a while this morning. Took some Tylenol this morning and Iโ€™m feel better. Not sure if thatโ€™s Lyme or the poor air quality in my musty and moldy apartment.

If I didnโ€™t like how the apartment was on the bus line ๐Ÿšand relatively cheap ๐Ÿ’ธ, Iโ€™d consider a nicer place. But Iโ€™d probably make a mess of it. Iโ€™m a dirty hick ๐Ÿ’ฉ at heart โ™ฅ so Iโ€™d make any place I live in a mess. Maybe thatโ€™s why I like wilderness and agriculture so much, ๐Ÿฎ itโ€™s not that neat and orderly and contains lots of mud and manure.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. If it even reaches that. I know soon weโ€™ll have days when the mercury struggles to reach zero and my apartments weak heating system will be cold. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1933. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

Still chewing over my plans for the afternoon although it is pretty cold โ„ and I didnโ€™t get a real early start. ๐Ÿšถ Maybe Iโ€™ll just go for a nature walk at Five Rivers ๐Ÿธ. That would be a nice thing to do this afternoon. I donโ€™t want to go too far but Iโ€™m planning to have the truck out because Iโ€™m planning on going to the folks house for Sunday dinner.

Iโ€™ve gotten Adam Danforthโ€™s book about Butchering Livestock out of the library. ๐Ÿฝ It caught my eye with all of big pictures of animals being harvested ๐Ÿšœ and it has a lot of interesting background on animal physiology and what goes into a good cut of meat ๐Ÿ–. Usually the only meat I process myself is up in the woods and I just burn the entrails.

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 30th. Maximum wind chill around 18 at 3am; Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Camping up north even with the heated tent ๐ŸŽช would have been pretty darn cold. But itโ€™s a nice day with the sun โ˜€ even if it is cold by my standards. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1875.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 32 and 21 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1957.
