Ice on Trees
November 7, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Three weeks to Thanksgiving 🦃. It really is coming quickly. I know last weekend mom was talking about her Thanksgiving day plans. Dark and cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Just started to rain β a few days little after I got on the bus. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. βοΈ
I walked down to the express bus 🚍 as I do most days now. Bus driver is going very slowly, I’m not sure why. Nothing seems wrong with the bus though. Seems though like we are making progress downtown and I’ll be in work in time to clock in. I find most evenings I walk down Columbia to Peter Kiran Plaza aka old Union Station and catch the bus there, right before it gets on the expressway. 🚉
Today will rain, mainly after noon. 🌧 High of 42 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 24th. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.β
The sun will set at 4:41 pm with dusk around 5:11 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will rain and snow likely before 9pm, then a chance of snow between 9pm and 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 25 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 5th. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.
The broken headphones 🎧 are annoying but it’s just a temporary situation and I’ll replace them. Now that they’ve gotten cheaper they don’t hold up well. I’ll replace them on Friday when I shop for camping.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 40. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Going to be a cold weekend but that’s not to be unexpected this time of year.
Now the weekend plans will all depend on the snow depth maps. β I am watching them and the forecast carefully but I still expect to go somewhere this weekend. This is a complex storm, not exactly sure what the snow fall totals will be but there shouldn’t be too much snow for camping βΊ at least along NY 8 – although I’m not a big fan of going up there because if I hunt it will be in competition with all the rifle hunters. 🔫
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Thanksgiving 🦃 when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1990.
