Adirondack Coast honors for Champ
Lake Champlain is home of a legend -- Champ, the American Loch Ness monster. The serpent was just honored with an Adirondack Coast marker in Port Henry. Lake Champlain is home to clear water, a diverse ecosystem, and a seldom seen lake monster. "They are seen as just vertically undulating," said Katy Elizabeth, one of the few who claims to have spotted Champ. Champ's first sightings date back to the 1800s, and there is a famous photo of him snapped in 1977. He's elusive and protected. Laws in New York and Vermont protect him from predators and encourage people to report sightings.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Looks like it will be a nice day. Next Tuesday is Last Sunset After 8:30 PM π. Sunny and 66 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. π Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees.
Catching the early bus downtown as I expect another busy day at work πΌ and plus I prefer the walk πΆ and taking the express to work. π Definitely a beautiful morning before the heat and humidity bake in tomorrow. I noticed that it seems like the air pressure drops in the morning and rises in the evening with my barometric pressure sensor. I should do more research on that topic, I’m kind of interested.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 88 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Light west wind. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 103 was set in 1936.
The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for clear skies π and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Should be nice. Today will have 15 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 9 seconds over yesterday.
The Save the Pine Bush meeting π²is at 6:30 so I’ll have some time to go for a walk after work πΆ or maybe sit down by the river for a while. Should be a nice evening.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8pm. Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1963.
Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.
I’m looking forward to heading out to Schoharie County βΊ for a stress free weekend where I won’t have to deal with traffic, heading out on a Saturday morning. Lots of time at the pool, hiking, fishing and relaxing. π£ Then the following weekend is summer vacation.
I am thinking about getting a permit from the PA DCNR to camp down at Painter Run in Wellsboro, to close out summer vacation. βΊ I think a walk along the Pine Creek gorge would be nice as would be poking around Wellsboro. I might also spend a night or two at the Alleghany National Forest.
As previously noted, next Tuesday is Last Sunset After 8:30 PM π when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 96 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1900.
