Living on electricity

If you body consumes 2,000 calories a day, that means you are consuming 2.3 kWh a day of energy from food or roughly 96 watts an hour.

That means your body is consuming 856 kWh a year to stay alive. If you could plug your body in the electric grid at 15 cents a kilowatt hour rather then eating food, you could eat for an entire year for $128.40 a year.

But then again, humans stomachs aren’t very efficient at converting food to energy — only about 25% efficient.

Electricity might be converted to work at a much higher rate by theoretical humans in the future — maybe your food bill would be like $30 a year if you could eat electricity rather than food.

June 13, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday on this Miranda Day. People say I should invoke my right to remain silent more, but heck with that. If not now, then when? Next Thursday is Summer ️⛱️. Rain and 57 degrees in the the land of the Delmaritian. ☔ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

Today will rain likely, mainly before 2pm, then a chance of showers after 3pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 59 degrees at 4pm. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 3pm. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. I wore my heavy coat which might be a bit excessive but I wanted to stay dry. 💧New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1892.

The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 31 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 52 degrees at 3am. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1970.

Getting closer to the weekend now. 😎 Been a long week but we are creeping closer to it each day. Even if I don’t head out of town this weekend it still will be nice to see this long work week come to an end. I think it’s going to be pretty cloudy on Saturday, and Sunday will be rainy. Like so many weekends lately, 🌧 a pattern that might last into the summer.

On this day in 1966, the United States Supreme Court rules in Miranda v. Arizona that the police must inform suspects of their rights before questioning them.👮 Also in 1970, “The Long and Winding Road” becomes The Beatles’ last U.S. number one song.🎼 And in 1977, Convicted Martin Luther King Jr. assassin James Earl Ray is recaptured after escaping from prison three days before.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Summer ️⛱️ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Beach time, I hope, if the sun ever comes out. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

According to the sign in my bedroom, which is only as accurate as my programming, 📟 in a month the sun will be setting one minute earlier than today and we will loose 14 minutes of daylight. Winters coming.

On that note, enjoy your right to remain silent and I’m almost to work. 🏢
