Coyote fur is in big demand thanks to popular parkas

"Those fur-trimmed parkas so common on city sidewalks have become a boon to backwoods trappers. Coyote fur pelts are in big demand to provide the lush, silvery or tawny-tinged arcs of fur on the hoods on Canada Goose coats and their many global imitators. A good western coyote, prized for its silky, light-colored fur, can fetch more than $100. The top price at a recent Colorado auction hit $170, a 40 percent increase from four years ago."

Everybody is heading downtown

March 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy March ๐ŸŒจ! Or so the sign in my bedroom says. The snow graphic may be appropriate for this start to the month of March. Although, today might actually a bit warm and start melting away some of the snow. Attention friendly strangers in black sedans — two weeks to Ides of March ๐Ÿš˜. Partly cloudy and 21 degrees in Delmar. โ›… Calm wind. There are 6 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Off to work early today because I had some work I had to do for an early morning event. I thought about going to the library last night to do it but I decided to just catch an earlier express bus downtown.๐ŸšŒ I’ve been retiring early to bed lately, so getting up early wasn’t a big thing for me. This earlier Voorheesville Express bus is quite crowded —ย that’s something I always notice when I take in the earlier bus.ย I don’t mind the crowds, but I was annoyed that for some reason my phone this morning wouldn’t boot up, ๐Ÿ“ฒ I might end up doing a factory reset later on this weekend to get it working better. I would like to get more use out of my phone for sure, before it dies.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 25th. Light south wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2017. 10.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.โ„

The sun will set at 5:45 pm with dusk around 6:13 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I had a lot of fun riding the exercise bike, listening to music and watching old dash cam videos from my trip to West Virginia and Virginia. ๐Ÿ“ผThat’s always a really good trip every two years, I look forward to doing it again this autumn. ๐Ÿ‚That said, this year I’ll probably skip the developed parks in favor of spending more time in West Virginia, in particular exploring Dolly Sods and the Black Falls area. Also maybe I night or two at Camp Run outside of Fort Seybert, like that rustic campground a lot.๐Ÿ•

I find myself riding the exercise bike a lot lately as it’s been too cold to walk comfortably, and I don’t like tromping through the snow banks as I used to do in years past on my evening walk. ๐Ÿšด That said after riding the bike for nearly an hour and a half while watching those videos of my West Virginia road trip, I did go for my evening walk around the high school which is like 45 minutes long.๐Ÿšถ

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 22 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -04 occurred back in 1940.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow before noon, then a chance of snow showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 28th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1991. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2018.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of snow after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

Bit chilly outside last evening walk evening but the sidewalks were free of snow thanks to municipal plowing and salting of the sidewalks.๐Ÿšถ In recent years, snow maintenance has improved on the sidewalks. It’s great, as I like to walk all over the town. Lots of stars last night. ๐ŸŒƒ A good way to wind down the nightย  after riding the excerise bike, before retiring bed.

The air was pungent from sour silage, ๐Ÿ‘ƒespecially walking past Sunset Dairy on Van Dyke Road.๐Ÿฎ They must have cut into some of their silage that soured over the winter, probably scraping it away to get to the good stuff. Definitely not manure but sour silage from the smell, it’s very distinctive. ๐ŸŒพ

Speaking of farming, I really wanted to ring the neck of somebody who posted about blaming industrial agriculture for the dead spot in the gulf.ย Nutrient pollution is everybody’s problem, often larger farms are much more professionally and scientifically managed to control pollution compared to smaller operations. ๐ŸžCities are their sewers are also problematic as are failing septic systems and lawn and turf chemicals. Agronomy and soil science is a complicated business, and a surprising number of farmers have advanced college degrees in it. ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿท Farming is a lot more that running a corn planter and slinging shit for sure, even if many farmers countdown the time between the soil is thawed and planting by the number of loads of manure they’ve hauled.

I got the USB cables I ordered from China. They are the Ugreen Brand which in my experience are quite good quality, although these longer ones seem a bit thinner and not gold tipped like the ones I previously brought from AliExpress. ๐Ÿ”Œ But still equal or exceeding quality on what you might get at your local big box — and a heck of a lot cheaper. While not all things are great quality on AliExpress, with care you can get some excellent deals on basic electronic components from there. The 3 meter or 9 foot cable I ordered is perfect for programming microprocessors, ๐Ÿ–ฅ as I can leave my laptop on it’s normal position and just plug in the wire to the processor while working at my desk for uploading.

In four weeks on March 29 the sun will be setting at 7:18 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 53 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 50 and 31 degrees. The record high of 85 degrees was set back in 1946.

Looking ahead, Ides of March โœ is in 2 weeks, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is a month away, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 2 months, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 12 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 3 months, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 4 months, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 18 weeks and August ๐ŸŒป is in 5 months.
