May 14, 2018 Night

Good evening! Partly clear under starry skies and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 57 degrees. Sitting out back on the tailgate of my truck. The air has quite nice earthy smell I guess from all pollen. I like it at least.

I looked in the mirror this morning and was horrified how much gray hair has started to pop up.👴 I mean I’ve noticed patches of gray popping up in places for maybe a year but now gray has now is becoming wide spread on more and more hair. It’s all over on individual strands of hair. I know there are chemicals to make you hair any color you want but I’m not into that. But it just scares me that I’m getting old as shit now that I head towards the second half of my 35th year. But in the mean time let’s look at the weather.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. South wind around 6 mph. In 2017, we had light rain in the evening with a few breaks in clouds by early morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a New Moon. The Flower Moon 🌝 is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:33 am with the first light at 5:00 am, which is one minute and 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 9 hours and 21 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 2pm and 4pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ☁, with a high of 74 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 12pm. South wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

Truck seemed to be absolutely fine today. I’m sure it was just my bug eyed self the rough pavement and I was tired after working all weekend and staring at a computer screen. 😈 I’m probably not going camping this weekend so I’ll have time to test things out and maybe put it up on the jack and look more carefully.🚗 I could take it somewhere but I really have nothing to point to and I’ve not noticed anything further.

Got the additional groceries I needed. Tomorrow I do got to get out and vote. 📚 School budget votes, right around the corner from home so easy to do. 🏃Went out for my evening walk.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. πŸ™ Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

I don’t know if I will be able to get out of town this weekend with that forecast but I’ve still requested Thursday and Friday off as I need some time away from work🚀 and I want to try to get that solar panel on my truck cap. I haven’t been granted those days yet but I’m sure I’ll get them.

In four weeks on June 11 the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm,🌄 which is 23 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 92 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 55 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 2 weeks, Labor Day 👨‍🏭 is in 16 weeks, Consitution Day 👨‍🏭 is in 18 weeks, Columbus Day 🛥️ is in 21 weeks, Veterans Day Observed (Monday) 🇺🇸 is in 26 weeks, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 28 weeks and New Years Eve 🎆 is in 33 weeks.

🇺🇸🦅Only 10 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Many conservatives are concerned about the dangers of snow sticking to LED traffic lights leading to horrific crashes on highways. For them, General Electric has invented a special traffic light that has a heater element that turns on automatically when it drops below 30 degrees on the glass surface, consuming 33 watts in cold conditions compared to the 116 watts for the incandescent bulbs. Only uses 12 watts when the glass is above freezing.

Poverty in the United States

Poverty in the United States

"Poverty is a state of deprivation, lacking the usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. The most common measure of poverty in the U.S. is the "poverty threshold" set by the U.S. government. This measure recognizes poverty as a lack of those goods and services commonly taken for granted by members of mainstream society. The official threshold is adjusted for inflation using the consumer price index.

Most Americans will spend at least one year below the poverty line at some point between ages 25 and 75. Poverty rates are persistently higher in rural and inner city parts of the country as compared to suburban areas.

In 2015, 13.5% (43.1 million) of Americans lived in poverty. Starting in the 1930s, relative poverty rates have consistently exceeded those of other wealthy nations. The lowest poverty rates are found in New Hampshire, Vermont, Minnesota and Nebraska, which have between 8.7% and 9.1% of their population living in poverty.

In 2009 the number of people who were in poverty was approaching 1960s levels that led to the national War on Poverty. In 2011 extreme poverty in the United States, meaning households living on less than $2 per day before government benefits, was double 1996 levels at 1.5 million households, including 2.8 million children."
