October 4, 2016 Afternoon

The rest of the week is expected to be quite warm and sunny with temperatures ranging about 5-10 degrees above normal with sunny skies. That’s the high pressure that is expected to be in control until Hurricane Matthews starts to push it out to sea. We will have a few cloudy days during the weekend with a chance of rain during the second half of the weekend.Β For Columbus Day, the sun will return with high pressure back in control, but the hurricane will pull in much cooler air.

Exceptional temperatures:
This afternoon will be warm. 72 degrees. 65 normal. 86 record (1948). Partly Sunny.
Tonight will be warm. 51 degrees. 43 normal. 26 record (1965). Mostly Clear.
Wednesday will be warm. 71 degrees. 64 normal. 91 record (1965). Sunny.
Wednesday night will be warm. 50 degrees. 43 normal. 24 record (1965). Clear.
Thursday will beΒ unseasonablyΒ warm. 75 degrees. 64 normal. 90 record (1965) Sunny.
Thursday night will be warm. 52 degrees. 43 normal. 27 record (1986). Clear.
Friday will be unseasonably warm. 76 degrees. 63 normal. 89 record (1986) Sunny.
Friday night will beΒ unseasonably warm. 53 degrees. 42 normal. 21 record (1964). Mostly Clear.
Saturday will be warm. 70 degrees. 63 normal. 79 record (1964). Chance of Rain.
Saturday night will be warm. 50 degrees. 42 normal. 27 record (2001). Chance of Rain.
Columbus day will be cool. 56 degrees. 62 normal. 89 record (1980). Mostly Sunny.

We may get some rain this weekend in Syracuse from the unstable weather caused by Hurricane Matthews, but right now it’s more of a chance then a serious threat.

Rain and thunderstorms expected:
Saturday Chance of rain from 8 am to midnight.
Sunday Chance of rain from midnight to 8 pm. Slight chance of rain from 8 pm to midnight.
Monday Slight chance of rain from midnight to 8 pm.

Hurricane Matthews is expected to make Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning cloudy. But this could change. Not expecting a washout or even a cloudy depressing weekend like with last weekend.

Cloudy periods:
Saturday Mostly cloudy from 2 pm to midnight.
Sunday Mostly cloudy from midnight to 8 am.

Donald Trump’s Taxes

I do not have a problem with Donald Trump writing off $960 million from his taxes on year, if he legitimately took a risk and lost money that year — and even rolling over that loss to other years. But if he made future profits, and he regained his money, he sure as hell should be paying taxes on that money. Many business people have very good and very bad years. Ask any farmer for sure.

We want people to invest money and take responsible risks.Β When they lose money in a particular year, they shouldn’t have to pay taxes on their loses.Β There should be a smoothing mechanism so that one’s one year loss can be balanced about by future gains. But you shouldn’t be able to avoid to pay any taxes, when you have a net gain in assets and wealth over time.

The bigger the investor you are, and the bigger your wealth, the bigger losses and gains.Β But you still should pay your fair share in taxes.Β I have some serious questions about how Donald Trump has deducted expenses and exploited the tax code to his advantage.

Trump really should release his tax returns before the election.

October 4, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday.Β Cloudy and 56 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees. Still kind of socked and clouds and fog — we will see partially clearing skies mid-day, then the skies will become mostly clear around 5 pm. After that we should have clear sailing with temperatures in the low to mid 70s for the rest of the week.

Not a real nice morningΒ but I expect the weather to improve as the day goes on.Β Figuring I have to work today,Β I guess I can’t complain too much about the weather. That said, I can’t wait until my next road trip.Β On a somewhat unrelated topic, IΒ do need to get my car inspected some time this month. I also should think about rotating the tires. That might wait until the next oil change though.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 11am. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. The record high of 86 was set in 1891. The sun will set at 6:38 pm with dusk around 7:07 pm, which is 1 minutes and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 32 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 51 degrees at 6am.Β Mild but good viewing for the stars. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. Light southeast wind. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1965.

On this day in 1985,Β The Free Software Foundation is founded in Massachusetts, United States.Β It was one of the first groups to write most of the basic code for Linux,Β the widely used operating system, that I continue to use today.

There are 3 weeks until World Pasta Day when the sun will be setting at 6:04 pm with dusk at 6:33 pm. The average high temperature is 56 degrees, with a record high of 77 in 1963. Some ravioli cooked over a campfire would be good for that day sure, especially with the cooler temperatures expected as we head into the second half of October.
