June 18, 2018 Night

Good evening! Partly clear, much less humid at 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌃 There is a west breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 65. Much better then earlier, especially with the breeze as I caught the late night bus home. 🚍 Going to be pretty hot when I get home, but I will put on the fan,☒ and I expect I will sleep fairly well tonight.🛌

Today was a rather long but relatively quiet day at work. 💼 But the moo-la-moo 🐮 is good to make, as I save for a better tomorrow. Maybe I spend too much time dreaming about tomorrow and doing too little today but I reject the sterile modernity that defines suburbia today. 🏡 At any rate, I didn’t have to wait that long for the bus and I had was sure glad to see it come. 🚌 Got released at 10:15, caught the 10:30 home. When I get home, I will plug in the big box fan, maybe have a glass of orange juice 🍊 out back then retire to bed by around eleven or so.

I think Tuesday will be an even later night, 🌉 so I probably should think about driving in 🚗 so I don’t miss the 11:30 PM bus home. I hate driving home after dark, but it’s not that far and I think it would be much more of a pain to do the whole ride sharing thing, which I’ve never figured out. I guess you have to get an app, but I don’t have that on my phone. 📱I’ll decide tomorrow I guess. First though tomorrow morning, I’ll need to take the kayak off the roof of my truck. I probably should plan to get a fairly early start then. 🌄

This evening during my downtime I played with my radio tuner dongle I got for my laptop, and got it working somewhat decoding P25 digital police and fire broadcasts. It works, although has some issues getting signals in clearly, especially for the police broadcasts. I also spent a little bit of time playing around with other types of radio signals I can pick up. 📻 I think the primarily way I’ll use it is to get in radio broadcasts when I’m home and working on my computer, as it’s nice I can control the audio levels right from the computer to my headphones. 🤑 Only $11.67 so it won’t break the bank but still I hate to buy things that I don’t fully use up.🗑 Still it’s giving me a lot of entertainment and teaching me a lot about radio waves and broadcasting.📡 If I want to live a sustainable, successful future I have to learn as much as possible about simple basic open source, low cost technology.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy β›ˆ, with a low of 69 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11pm. West wind 7 to 10 mph becoming south in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Not great sleeping weather, but I don’t mind i’m tired. 💤 It certainly is a lot cooler than earlier. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 36% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:39 am. The moon will set at 1:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, June 27th. The sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞 , with a high of 80 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6am. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Sticky to start out the day but less sticky going through the day. A year ago, we had cloudy skies, clearing in the afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1995.

Right now, a split verdict on the first weekend of the summer. πŸ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 58 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

I am thinking this weekend of doing the Save the Pine Bush Hike on Saturday, 🌲 then maybe going camping in Schoharie County, β›Ί then swimming at Mine Kill State Park. Maybe do some fishing on Sunday and hike up the Cliffs of Middleburgh. Kind of the plan for last weekend, but I couldn’t quite get the logistics right. I might consider also taking off Monday, but I don’t know, it depends a lot on the weather.😎 I need to spend more time in the wilderness this summer.

In four weeks on July 16 the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm,🌄 which is 5 minutes and 48 seconds earlier then tonight. Amazing how fast that happens. By the time July is done, you really start to notice how early the sun sets. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 85 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1900.

Looking ahead, Labor Day 👨‍🏭 is in 11 weeks, Constitution Day 📖 is in 13 weeks, Columbus Day 🛥 is in 16 weeks, Veterans Day Observed (Monday) 🇺🇸 is in 21 weeks, Cyber Monday 🛍 is in 23 weeks and New Years Eve 🎆 is in 28 weeks.

American toddlers are eating more sugar than the amount recommended for adults β€” Quartz

"The study, conducted by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, looked at added sugar consumptionβ€”sugars in your diet that are not naturally occurring, like those found in fruit and milk, but rather added into foods during preparation or processing. Researchers used data collected from a nationally representative sample of more than 800 kids between six and 23 months old who participated in the 2011 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Parents were asked to record every item their child ate or drank during a 24-hour period, and the researchers calculated a mean sugar intake based on these testimonies."

"The study found that toddlers 12 to 18 months consumed 5.5 teaspoons per day, and that toddlers 19 to 23 months consumed 7.1 teaspoons. This is close to, or more than, the amount of sugar recommended by AHA for adult women (six teaspoons) and men (nine teaspoons). Parents of more than 80% of kids aged six to 23 months reported their children consumed at least some added sugar on a given day."
