And then cooler for the next weekend. Probably doesn’t matter much as I’ll be in the office though I will definitely want to do my walk early then. Then cool for next weekend. Maybe it will be the following week for getting out of town. Saves gas.

I just wish it was June and I could get out of town. But with work these days I can’t afford to be off the cell phone network for all weekend. But that day will come. Only two and a half weeks of session left. I’m hoping their are sine remote work opportunities in the summer but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Good morning! Spring has come back aroundagain. Well maybe not for another 11 hours though it will feel spring like later. Don’t do stupid shit in the mean time. Clear and 24 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. . Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am.
Cold but clear start to the morning. I was not impressed when the heat kicked on when I got up. I know it’s cold this morning but the thermostat can’t read the forecast. I still haven’t gotten the February bill yet for gas and electric, I’m thinking it was delayed because of the weather delaying the meter read but I’m curious about it and will have to check the website. I turned off the heat for hopefully the rest of the year. I like it cold but if it gets well below freezing I’ll have to turn it back up. Pretty morning being so clear with the sun rising. And soon it will be fairly warm out.
Today will be sunny , with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. South wind 6 to 16 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 7 inches of snow fell back in 1944.
I don’t know about you but I look forward to the sunshine and the April like weather. And knowing that we are like a week and a half from this being the normal weather. By the number of red winged black birds around its a sign of what is to come. No spring peepers but I know it won’t be that far in the future .
Solar noon is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.2° from the due south horizon (-23.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (264°).
The sunset is in the west (271°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 53 seconds with dusk around 7:35 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. The best time to look at the stars is after 8:09 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.
Tonight will be mostly clear , with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 17th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1956. Not very negative.
Saturday’s forecast isn’t wonderful. Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 46. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees. One week until April.
Looking ahead in early to mid April, there are 3 weeks until 8 PM Dusk when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. Should be good for going to the park after work. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.
Good morning! Made it what is normallythe coldest part of the year and I’m out camping in Madison County. What can I say, I’m kind of nuts and I like burning shit and spending time out in the country where things are real. For a while last night that fire was rip roaring and that smoke was black! Well it is Martin Luther King weekend.
Mostly cloudy and 13 degrees at the Moscow Hill Camping Area. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. . The current wind chill is 2. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. Things will start to thaw out at Tuesday around 10 am. I’ll be home by then then.
I planned to leave by nine yesterday and started down the road and realized that I didn’t know where my hat and gloves were which are kind of essential for winter camping. So I ended up heading home and searching for a half hour until I realized that I stuck it in the cooler to carry it out.
Then I had to stop in Esperance for food and fuel. The roads were just wet and salty all the way until I got out to Brookfield where they were snow covered. They don’t have a bare pavement policy in Madison County though the roads did have plenty of sand on them. I got to camp on Saturday around 12:30 which left plenty of time to gather and chop wood for the night ahead and set up camp and listen to a podcast then go for an hour walk in a beautifully snow covered woods before dusk. And cook some sausages up for lunch.
Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny , with a high of 27 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal. North wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.
I’ll believe it when I see it for the sun, so far this morning has been pretty cool and gray. I’d like some sun, preferably by midday to top off the battery bank . The weatherman promised sun for today but I’m not that hopeful with the skies so gray.
Today I have planned out a ten mile hike around the state forest, hiking the horse trails which should be well frozen this time of year. In the summer they can be quite swampy from the horse hooves churning things up but things are well cold and frozen today.
Solar noon is at 12:12 pm with sun having an altitude of 26° from the due south horizon (-44.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour starts at 4:09 pm with the sun in the southwest (234°). The sunset is in the west-southwest (242°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:53 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 5:23 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. The best time to look at the stars is after 5:59 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies and temperatures around 24 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 39 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear , with a low of 8 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 10 at 5am; North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light freezing rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1971.
Going to be a cold night I may need to start my truck up to be safe before bed. But once I’m under the covers I should be good. But first I plan to have a big ol fire just like I had last night.
Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until 40th Birthday when the sun will be setting at 5:11 pm with dusk at 5:40 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold, partly sunny and temperatures between 14 and 0 degrees. Maybe I’ll go camping then too. LOL . Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.
Big whoop, whoop, whoop, look at the high temperature locally. But it’s supposed to cool off later. Maybe I’ll leave work early. Certainly going to take the local to work and home, so I’m not trudging through the slop. I had the option to work from home, but I didn’t want to use more of my hotspot data up, especially as I’m off all day next week, plus working in the office gives me more of an opportunity at lunch time to get at least some of my steps in by walking the Concourse and the Museum inside. Much too icky to walk outside, unless things freeze up, and then it will be icy.
At least after the rain, ice, snow slop mix, it should warm up this weekend, which should hopefully keep the ice from accumulating too much. And maybe it will be gone in a day or two. That would be nice, especially if I have next week off and want to do some skiing or getting around without microspikes.
First half of the week doesn’t look too bad for winter camping, assuming I’m prepared to deal with snow and get a snow shovel to dig out a parking spot.

Maybe today is a good day to be dumping tea into the harbor after all. With the rain, snow and fog, the authorities probably aren’t going to notice you dumping a bunch of source-separated organic matter into the Boston Harbor. But who knows what the weather is like in Boston. We certainly aren’t getting the heavy snow they’re getting out in the hill towns.
Rain and sloppy snow and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 6 mph. . There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime.
My last day of working before December 27th. I have next week off, and then I’m back for that four day week after the Christmas break, as the other director has that day off. Yesterday I also had off, and Wednesday I worked from home. It’s kind of nice to have some off before the end of the year is done, and I am still going to loose some time that I can’t roll over to the new year.
Yesterday Big Red got inspected and got his new sticker with no issues, although the trail hitch is rotted out. I try to cover things with oil and keep the truck clean but it’s tough, after going through 11 winters, heading into the 12th one now. I don’t know how many more years Red has left, but he’s paid for and I am doing smaller trips, and certainly during the winter I don’t drive much. Last year, I doubt I even did 6,000 miles throughout the year, preferring to stay closer to home.
My hope is to get out camping for a few days next week, it will definitely involve a shovel, a hot tent and skies. Probably just a local state forest like Rennselearville State Forest or Cole Hill State Forest, dragging gear back on a sled. I would have preferred to go out to Brookfield, but I doubt I could find parking. I could call the DEC Office in Sherburne to see if they plow out any of the area around the horse camp for snowmobilers — they might and drag gear back to the horse camp, and set up a tent there, but I might just stay local.
I do need to get a snow shovel. I was off work yesterday to go shopping but then with the independing snow storm they canceled the holiday the party, and I decided after my car inspection, there was no need to go out as I had enough food and supplies. I am not that worried about having too much snow to need to dig out at home, as the landlord takes care of the driveway and gives me a very weak, shitty plastic shovel to clean the steps off in front of where I live. But I think it will be mostly a rain event in Delmar. I also didn’t want to rush to the store before the snow storm, lest they jack up prices or not have any shovels in stock. Maybe on Sunday or Monday I’ll get one, especially if I make up my mind where I want to go.
That wind will make it feel cold tonight it seems, but at least it should hopefully limit the risk of a flash freeze and excessive salting on the roads. But I stocked up well at the grocery store so I shouldn’t have to go out right away, except maybe for the Save the Pine Bush hike on Saturday. But now that looks like rain. And I was hoping to get up to the Adirondacks after that. Doesn’t seem likely based on the most recent forecast.
Then next week is kind of up in the air as I might have jury duty or I might not have to report next week. I figure statistically the chance of having to report next week is low, as I could be called one of the four other weeks in December. Will know on Thursday evening. I do want to take off the second half of next week, assuming it’s decent and I’m not called to go up North or maybe to Cazenovia. A lot depends on how much snow is in both locations and the weather. But it’s been a long time since I’ve spent a night in the wilderness or had a nice big fire.
