Good evening! Cloudy and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 1 am. π
Its been a terribly muggy day and kind wet with downpours throughout the day. β After all this extended dry period and drought we are getting caught up with the rain. No real thunder or wind though out of the store. That said, laying in the bed next to the fan is quite nice.
I went to Papscanne Island Preserve for a while πΈ but it was incredibly muggy and several trails were blocked by numerous large downed trees and the heavy brush abs vines that surround them. Often getting around a downed tree in the woods isn’t a big deal but the woods there is dense. Sat down by the river for a while but that was sultry too. And then when I got home it started to pour once again.
I was thinking it might have been nice to gotten out of town this long weekend βΊ but I don’t think I made a mistake to stay in town through Sunday. Setting up camp means I’ll have numerous choices and hopefully I’ll have a pleasant place to work while I beat the heat. The nice thing about camping in the National Forest is you can stay in one site for the whole time there – 14 days out of any 30 day period. Not setting up and taking down.
I am well stocked up after shopping at Aldi. π I tried to emphasize dry goods and things that don’t spoil quickly as even though I’ll get ice every three days I know things might not hold well in the heat and it’s a 10-15 mile drive to the nearest general store so I don’t want to have to repeat too many times. β I’m hoping to get a site with good sun for the solar but also shade to be cool in the afternoon plus good cell service π± for work and close enough to a swimming hole π for after hours.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 11pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy π§, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9pm. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1971.
Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon π Moon with 98% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southeast (137Β°) at an altitude of 12Β° from the horizon, some 233,948 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. π At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 28th. Buckle up for safety! πΊ The Buck π¦ Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:23 am in the east-northeast (57Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 26 seconds. Sunrise is 35 seconds later than yesterday. π The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (64Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, an increase of 51 seconds over last night.
Independence Day will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny π, with a high of 87 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 104 was set in 1911.
Maybe not record breaking, πbut it’s going to be a hot Independence Day. I plan to do some fishing π£ and turn out to the folks house for a socially distant picnic with separate tables and bringing my own plates and silverware. π΄ I also need to fix a loose wire on the truck cap. π‘
In four weeks on July 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (296Β°) at 8:16 pm,π which is 20 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 81 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1917.
Looking ahead, Election Day 2020 π³οΈ is in 4 months.
