Partridge Run Game Management Area Walk

Our for a nice little walk up at Partridge Run Game Management Area. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป ๐Ÿฆ

The autumn colors have faded but it’s very quiet up here, only run into one person all day driving by in a car with their dog. Doing a bunch of wildlife observation ๐Ÿ”ญ saw a few grouse and turkey and nut hatches. ๐Ÿฆƒ

Cool but fairly sunny although clouds are pushing in as it’s expected to rain the next few days. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ

Walking past that off grid farm on Ravine Road, I guess the Messner Farm from the road sign, they have their generator running because I guess not enough solar this time of year, ๐ŸŒžalthough they do have a pretty nice array of 250 watt panels on home made wooden frames. Their cows were bellowing too. ๐Ÿฎ People probably say their poor rednecks because they live in a trailer with lots of junk but I’m jellous as hell. ๐Ÿก Probably a shit ton more sustainable way of living then those plastic houses with solar panels, electric cars and always full garbage cans and recycling bins. โ™ป Wood smoke smells amazing. ๐ŸŒฒ

I am sitting here at the Gulf overlooking the Switz Kill Valley. ๐Ÿž Listening to the crows and the cows bellowing in the dairy down in the Switz Kill Valley. I’m sure it’s the cows wanting to be fed or milked.๐Ÿ„ Maybe the land might be pungent in a few weeks when things start to be fertilized once the crops are in the silos and bunks but it’s good the land still works, produces food and hasn’t become all suburbanites yet with their vinyl covered homes. ๐Ÿก

It’s small game season and several species are open and I’ve heard a few gun shots around but it’s been quiet. ๐Ÿ”ซ By the lack of vehicles around, I don’t think many folks are even bow hunting – the main attraction is the Northern Zone rifle season for now. ๐Ÿน Horse ๐Ÿด trailer in one of the parking areas ๐Ÿ…ฟ so there must be horseback riders.

Brock Pierce

While I voted for Jo Jergenson via absentee ballot, I am increasingly thinking about Early Voting for Brock Pierce, the Independence Party candidate for president. He seems to have an interesting political platform, and I think the universal basic income and single payer health care are pretty good ideas. Plus he’s young – my generation – and he has libertarian ideas on things like cannabis which I agree with.

In New York State, you can return your absentee ballot and if you change your mind vote on the machine and your absentee ballot will be discarded. But once vote on the machine either Early Voting or on Election Day, you can’t change your vote. So I see no rush to Early Vote especially with the lines.

There are 48 hours of Early Voting left and 15 hours of Election Day to cast a ballot on Election Day, so I have time to decide between which candidates I like even if I’ve completed my absentee ballot.

October 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช Next Sunday is November ๐Ÿฅง and the start of Standard Time ๐Ÿ•’. Mostly sunny and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ

Cold but sunny morning ๐ŸŒ„ at least after the sun rose over the horizon. A week from now with the time change time it will be only 7:30. That will make mornings a lot easier to get started especially as next month it looks like I’ll be catching the bus ๐Ÿš downtown and going back to work ๐Ÿข. The work at home thing was kind of fun but with winter coming working out at the library parking lot ๐Ÿ“š isn’t going to be much fun in the cold.

That said I’m looking at also possibly getting a cellular wireless card for my laptop. ๐Ÿ–ฅ If I’m just using it for work, it’s unlikely I’ll need more than 5-10 gb of data for work and the occasional Zoom Meetings can be fine from the library. Data is a lot more affordable than in the past but I don’t want to have to pay for a regular internet connection at home or the fracked gas energy โšก to power a router 24-7. That said, I’m still hoping soon the library fully reopens and I’ll be back work downtown ๐Ÿข and it will be a moot point. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ“ถ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 10th. North wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 2005.โ„

I haven’t decided what my plans are yet for today but it would be be a nice day to spend in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿค” I’ll end up going somewhere there are definitely options on this sunny day. ๐ŸŒžThen I’m going to my parents house for Sunday dinner.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 35.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-35.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:19 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (247ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 6:26 pm, which is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (142ยฐ) at an altitude of 23ยฐ from the horizon, 244,523 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:00 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 27th. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1952.

Yesterday I finally got the mantles for the lantern ๐Ÿฎ and disassembled it for cleaning. I need more carburetor cleaning spray now as the old rusty can leaked a few weeks making my kitchen stink for a few days. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป But rinsing it out and spraying it with WD 40 it should be good to go with the nights getting long at camp. Electric light is fine but I like the backup of propane lighting in case the battery voltage drops or a plug ๐Ÿ”Œ gets unplugged.

In 1962, in the Cuban Missile Crisis, ๐Ÿš€ Adlai Stevenson shows photos at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council proving that Soviet missiles are installed in Cuba. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡บ Fortunately cooler heads prevailed ๐Ÿคฏ and there was no nuclear war. ๐Ÿ’ฃโš› That said, Adlai Stevenson didn’t have much hair ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป on his head so he was always cool headed.

As previously noted, next Sunday is November ๐Ÿฅง when the sun will be setting at 4:47 pm with dusk at 5:17 pm (Standard Time). Yes, we set the clocks ๐Ÿ•’ back next weekend. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.

Next month I’ll have to get my truck inspected. ๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿš˜ I should be good for that but I should check โ˜‘ the taillights and other equipment. I will probably do it early in the month to get it done.
