Ambler, Pennsylvania, about 14 miles outside of Philadelphia, was formerly home to the biggest asbestos manufacturing facility in the world. Giant piles of asbestos were stationed all around the city, the so-called “white mountains of Ambler.” The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has remediated these sites by covering them with clean soil and plants designed to keep people from coming in contact with the asbestos and prevent the asbestos from contaminating the air.
With two gleaming pickup trucks and the Georgia Capitol's gold dome behind him, Gov. Brian Kemp announced a $5 billion electric vehicle plant was coming to Georgia.
At the rollout event earlier this month, Kemp called his state the economic engine of the Southeast "and now a world leader in electric vehicles and electric mobility."
A bold statement, to be sure, but the company Kemp helped lure to Georgia is indeed a big deal. Rivian is one of the hottest electric vehicle startups. And while it has produced only a few hundred pickup trucks so far, the California company is already valued more than Ford Motor Co. Amazon has committed to buying 100,000 of Rivian's electric delivery vans.
Companies like Rivian are helping drive the automotive industry's electric future. When they look to build new plants, states go all out to woo them. Sun Belt states like Georgia see an opening to chip away at the auto dominance Michigan and the Motor City have cemented for over a century.
The 8-14 day outlook is trending cooler but not that much cooler, maybe seasonable weather which for January doesn’t mean that cold any more.
Remember with the latest 30 year climate normals, the average high temperature is like 32 1/2 degrees in the coldest part of the year any snow Albany gets is unlikely to last long. And the 15 year climate normals are like 34 1/2 for the coldest time of the year.
It’s not to say that cold weather won’t happen but is likely to be a short period of time.
Saves on the heating bills though I sure like seeing the sun from time to time. That said it looks like January is trending cold and that should bring many clear days. Who knows at this point though if I will be working downtown or things will go remote again with the COVID.

Good morning! Tonight is the 4:30 PM Sunset π .
Further evidence that summer is coming.
Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south breeze at 5 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. βοΈ
Sidewalks are a bit icy this morning β and there was a bit of drizzle when I left home but it seems like it’s clearing out a bit.
Getting a free ride to work today π as the fare box on the bus is broken. Annoying how the fare box keeps beeping. π Taking the earlier express in, I’ll probably walk the Plaza for a while before work so I can get my steps in.
Still been trying to do 10,000 steps a day, πΆ which is roughly 5 miles. Last week I crossed 100 days with my step counter and a day later I reached 500 miles walking since mid September. It’s tough though with the dark and cold evening – I walked yesterday evening but rarely do after I walk home from the express in the evening. π΄
