Mobile virtual network operator

Mobile virtual network operator

Not having regular Internet at home, I'm not really up on the net neutrality debate. I guess it's something that the techies are into.

On the other hand, I'm a big fan of mobile virtual network operators on the cellphone networks. I think more competition has helped to drive down costs and make smartphone service more available and cheaper. Shouldn't cable companies be required to allow any company to hook in for to their last mile? Rather then buying Internet Service from Time Warner Cable, you should be able to choose from many different providers. While Time Warner would ultimately install the physical line to your house, the backbone and all service would come from your choice of providers. Many countries already do this, and in New York we do this with electricity -- everybody gets the electricity delivered from their local utility but people are free to choose their supplier.

Cold Blustery November Morning at Camp

Sunday, November 6 was a rather chilly but bearable morning with light snow coming down as I camped at one of the campsites on the East Branch Sacanadaga River.

November 26, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy but somewhat cold Sunday. Next Sunday is the Cold Moon. Brr.  Light snow and 29 degrees near Cod Pond There is a light northwest breeze.  The current wind chill is 18. This campsite is wedged between the mountains, its pretty well protected from the wind. The skies will clear around noontime. Chomping down on breakfast, staying warm by the heater. I am rather hoping to use the last of the propane now, so I can fill the tank before my next trip.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 31 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A pretty cold day in the Adirondacks. I don’t plan on sticking around too long today. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1979. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 2014. I had forgotten what a snowy winter it was during that year.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly cloudy conditions and 30 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 24 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 19 at 6pm; West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 1957. Much warmer than yesterday’s 1938 record low of negative 11.

Well, I’m going to start to take down camp and start loading up the truck. I’m not sure if I will do much today besides head home. I guess I could hike back to Cod Pond, it just depends on how raw the weather will be outside of the valley.

As previously noted, next Sunday is the Cold Moon when the sun will be setting at 4:19 pm with dusk at 4:51 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, snow, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 42 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. That’s pretty cold. We hit a record high of 63 back in 2009.
