September 20, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees. A fairly nice evening. I went for my evening walk 🚢 and got my camping gear and kayak loaded on my truck for tomorrow.

I also cleaned the very dirty bathroom sink and watched a bit of the Our Wyoming Life channel that I downloaded. πŸŽ₯ Agriculture is really fascinating business. I also have been watching a lot of videos lately about chillers and HVAC systems as they are a fascinating topic and one that’s very important with climate change such a risk to our future.

The bird 🐦 hike is bright and morning tomorrow. Then it’s off to kayaking and hiking. Then camp. β›Ί Not a big thing to pack for but it’s going to be an early start tomorrow. 6 AM before sunrise the alarm ⏰ clock is set.

Why are RVs so poorly made? – Curbed

Why are RVs so poorly made? – Curbed

The rule, typically, is don’t buy a new RV. If you buy a new RV, you’re going to be sitting in a dealership for two years getting it fixed.

I've never had much interest in RVs or real truck campers, it just seems like a lot of stuff to go wrong and break. Plus who needs all those curtans, padding, and fake wood paneling made out of formaldehyde?

Tonight I’ll load the kayak on my truck 🚀and load my gear for camping β›Ί as I have to get an early start for the Pine Bush Birds the Word Hike tomorrow. 🐦 That hike starts at eight at the Discovery Center. I’m debating between paddling in the Mohawk River tomorrow near Moss Island or Stewart Landing tomorrow then the potholers on Sunday.Β I forgot to get propane tank filled but I’m hopeful I will have enough for tomorrow, otherwise it will be a campfire breakfast. πŸ›’οΈΒ I think the tank still has a pound or two left in it, but it definitely should be filled before vacation.

So I got these black boots πŸ‘’ because that’s what they had in my size and I figured that they wouldn’t show the mud and muck so much. But now that I think about it some more, I’m sure the salt will show up. The other advantage is they will polish well with the same black shoe paint I use with my dress shoes. Not sure if I really care for the style but I’m sure with the salt and all the hiking I do they’ll probably only last until spring. Might look really nice with khakis for work. I don’t really care that much about style, it’s different. Change is tough.

I repotted one of the spider plants 🌾in my office that has long struggled. Maybe root rot or maybe I over fertilized it. Four out of the five plants are doing well, two of them I gave away. Hoping to pot up two or three more next year so we can have greenery in every window in our office. 🏒 Makes the bleakness of the winter much nicer.

I’m thinking πŸ’ about doing a side trip down to MacDowell County, WV after visiting New River Gorge. As you may know that’s where Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty started. I’ve heard it’s not changed much over the years. 🏠 I thought originally about going down to Hazard, Kentucky but I think that’s too far out of the way to just drive through and stop and grab a picture. I’d rather have an excuse to visit an area beyond just visiting a hick town.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until November πŸ₯§ when the sun will be setting at 5:48 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 59 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.

November is actually my favorite season of the year. 🦌 It’s time a before the snow is usually on the ground,Β but the leaves are off the trees and the skies often are quite blue. The air is crisp, the nights are cool and long. Big game season opens in the Southern Zone, Thanksgiving rolls around. πŸ¦ƒ It’s the month before winter really gets underway most years.
