Good morning! Happy Thursday. Two weeks to November π₯§. Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Clay. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. π. Just barely above freezing now, it got below freezing and was at 32 according to Big Red’s DIC this morning. Come tonight, temperatures could drop below freezing at around 2 am. βοΈ
Definitely a real cold morning. Not only was it below freezing, when I started out, it was cold enough to kick the alternator in Big Red up to 15.2 volts. π The Silverado has a temperature compensating alternator that when it’s cold out and the battery is taking in more current, it will push extra voltage into the battery. That’s ton of power when you think about it — the 145 amp alternator is putting out 2,240 watts or 2.2 kW. But accessories and the second battery are power hungry, especially in the cold weather. Winter’s coming. When I’m parked at home for extended periods, in cold weather, I’ll leave the batteries connected so solar power can top both of them off. π
Today will have a slight chance of sprinkles after 3pm. Mostly sunny π, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. 17 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph. Cold but sunny. At least no blowing snow yet, but it will be blustery and cold. I hope if your out hunting, your well prepared for the cold weather, wearing layers of warm clothing. It’s gets very cold sitting in the woods at times.Β That said, today in recent memories, has been quite warm according to the almanac. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 2015.β
The sun will set at 6:16 pm with dusk around 6:45 pm, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies β
and 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 11 mph. Going to be a cold one for sure. Today will have 10 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be partly cloudy β, with a low of 36 degrees at 2am. Two degrees below normal. Southwest wind around 8 mph. In 2017, we had clear skies. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974. It’s a little hard to say for sure.
There are 19 days, 13 hours and 19 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. π³ We are now down to the teens for days left until the polls close. The mercury is dropping, autumn is well underway. I am sure in the outlaying areas, the leaves are quickly dropping. Maybe we’ll even start to see some leaves turning color here in the Syracuse-area soon. π I guess in some places that’s already happening.
Today is going to be a busy day. π΄Just a lot of things on the calendar. Tomorrow, I’m hoping to take off mid-day and maybe go down to Green Lakes for an extended lunch break. We will see how things go. It’s just getting to that point with things.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until November π₯§ when the sun will be setting at 5:55 pm with dusk at 6:25 pm. Then the following Sunday we set the clocks back an hour. On that day in 2017, we had rain, drizzle, cloudy skies and temperatures between 49 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.
