March 26, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Six weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. I turned off the heat and will probably open some of the windows in a bit. Honestly if I go out in a bit I won’t have any shortage of solar power for my laptop. That said, my power situation is pretty good now that I got the car charger working again – it’s totally silent and saves a lot of power.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 5pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21ยฐ vs. 6/21). Not quite 50 degrees. A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (268ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) starting at 7:12 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:43 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (265ยฐ) at an altitude of 19ยฐ from the horizon, 250,340 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1975.

It looks like the weekend forecast has improved a bit. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, rain. High near 51. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.

Almost sounds nice enough to head out of town for the weekend โ›บ but the question ๐Ÿ™‹ is where to go. There is still quite a bit of snow up north and probably things are really muddy in Madison County. Plus I don’t trust the forecast – I still think there is a decent chance for cloudy โ˜ skies this weekend and I’m not thrilled about the idea of staying in a campground if there are others anywhere nearby. I bet Madison County smells very earthy and cow like ๐Ÿšœ with all farmers working the land.

Starting to think about getting a new phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ, mainly because my current one is always low on memory and tends to be slow and now would be a good time to get it when I’m home ๐Ÿก and can sign for the package rather than have to drive to Menands. This LG Sunset phone has held up well for the past three years, although I did replace the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ once. They’re not really expensive for the basic tract phones that I use but I hate to replace something that’s not worn out. ๐Ÿšฎ

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930. Longer, warmer days and black flies aren’t far away.

March 25, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The snow is basically gone except from some sad snow men. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Wasn’t sure how cold โ„ it would be on my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but it turned out to be a fairly reasonable night. Little more traffic tonight than recent nights – it’s been so quiet lately when I go for my evening walk. Maybe because it was a little later. Ran into some random person smoking pot on a dark part of the street but I social distance him so no real concerns there. ๐Ÿšฌ People get it, they appreciate it when you give them distance. ๐Ÿ…

Today went by quickly, it was a pretty quiet day at work. ๐Ÿ˜‚It does save a lot of time not commuting and I kind of like working out of my truck. ๐Ÿ’ป That said, conference calls and even Zoom Meetings aren’t like being in person, although I do like the mute ๐Ÿ”• button โšซand being able to flip to other browser tabs. Plus work done at home without social media distractions is much more productive. I’ve discovered how truly much more energy efficient the DC car charger for my laptop is compared to the AC charger plugged into my inverter. ๐Ÿ”Œ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Light and variable wind. Not all that much longer before the average night is above freezing in Albany. Then I’ll definitely be able to have heat off. โ™จ In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960.

The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:22 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:50 am in the east (87ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:27 am with sun in the east (93ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 32 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Should be a really nice day. I won’t mind working down a Five Rivers in my truck tomorrow for sure. Beats working in the dungeon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

I ordered a new pair of boots ๐Ÿ‘ข because the ones I’m wear are showing holes through their bottoms. I found I can order my size online and get free shipping, so no digging through the store to find their not in stock. Still having trouble with the state tax department website. ๐ŸฌDidn’t get a chance to do any more research into screened in tents for camping during Black Fly Season or some of my longer trips for rainy days ๐ŸŽช but I should do that tomorrow.

I also got to think about where I want to go for my April road trip. โ›บ I am thinking Madison and Chenango Counties for good trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃ opportunities but the Adirondacks are still a possibility. ๐Ÿ—ป Depends on how much snow there is. That said, while the state forests camping areas are quite large compared to campgrounds, I kind of want to be as far away from others as possible in this era of social distancing.๐Ÿ‘พ Plastic gloves while pumping gas โ›ฝ, hand sanitizer and just staying as far away from others as possible, as it seems like the apex of the Coronavirus crisis in New York will be about the week I’m planning my trip.

Took another sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š so I sleep well because otherwise I wake up during the night and turn on the BBC or NPR Morning Edition ๐Ÿ“ป and the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ is so sad and worrying. ๐Ÿ˜ข Coronavirus is a disaster and it’s only going to get worse before it gets better. It’s a crazy wind driven wildfire that is out of control, going to jump every fire break we put up against it. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I am not convinced that social distancing is going to have a big impact – it feels good to spray the out of control fire with water ๐Ÿ’ฆ – but it’s not going to stop burning until Coronavirus naturally burns itself out. I bet Texas won’t get hit as hard as New York even though they’ve done far less. My science friend who is on the front lines says Coronavirus is blowing right towards the big nursing homes ๐Ÿ‘ด in New York City and while they are doing everything they can to stop the march ๐Ÿ‘พinto the facilities, it’s going to arrive shortly and it will lead to a shocking number of casualties. ๐ŸขIts endlessly sad and I think it’s very dishonest of the politicians to act like their is much we can do at this point. ๐ŸŽค

In four weeks on April 22 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (288ยฐ) at 7:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, warm and temperatures between 74 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 40 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1985.

Looking ahead, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 1 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 3 weeks except its not due to Coronavirus, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 4 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 2 months, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 43 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 57 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

 Tulip

March 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Climbing the Hump, coasting to the weekend. Not going to be a real nice weekend though. Next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก. You know, I don’t actually miss the late nights at work that much working on the state budget. I’m quite fine working 9-5, even if I’d does mean I’m working out my truck during Coronavirus. ๐Ÿš Strangely enough, I actually miss the routine of taking the bus to work and the quiet time it gives me to work on my blog ๐Ÿ“ and think while I ride to work.

Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There is maybe an inch of wet globby snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Most of the snow from yesterday is gone at least in the city. But I’m sure the ground is really sloppy at this point. At least the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ danger is low for the next few days although the long range is calling for below average precipitation for early spring before things green up. Campfires are exempt from the Pete Grannis burn ban, as long as they’re under 3 foot by 4 foot (no bonfires until after May 15th) but commonsense matters. It’s really easy to start a grass fire this time of year and have to be stomping it out.

Today will have isolated sprinkles after noon. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. We aren’t getting the rain their getting down in Pennsylvania as the front is stalled south of us but I’m not hopeful of much sun. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

So I have that Zoom Meeting online conference training session ๐Ÿ’ป at one o’clock today so I’ll probably go to Five Rivers for that. It should be relatively quiet there and afterwards I’ll go for a walk on one of the drier trails. ๐Ÿšถ Not expecting much snow to be left come the afternoon. I wish we would have more sun, it would be more pleasant and provide more solar power but I can’t control the weather. I am glad Zoom Meeting has Linux software as much as I don’t like installing closed source binary programs. โ‡

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:37 pm with the sun in the west (267ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) starting at 7:11 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (268ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, 251,596 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, rain likely before 8am, then showers, mainly after 8am. High near 49. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.

It doesn’t look like a real nice weekend but at least it will be fairly mild โ˜ and maybe the forecast is improving. I don’t have any plans for the weekend at this time, possibly the following weekend I’ll take a week or part of a week off for camping โ›บ and trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃbut that’s to be determined. Except for pumping gas โ›ฝ I doubt I’ll have much in social interaction, I can always wear some of those nitrile gloves while pumping gas I have for butchering ๐Ÿ”ช game. Honestly I’m not that worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ, they’re is only so much one can do to prevent getting Coronavirus.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก when the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Clouds

March 24, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธWarm weather and relatively soft ground has done a number on the snow. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was kind of a quiet day at work and gray outside. โ˜ The stuff I needed to do for work I was able to handle using my smartphone so I ended up staying home. ๐Ÿ“™ In the afternoon and evening I read a bunch of that book I got about Thomas Edison and went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ after making a big pot of macaroni and cheese with all kinds of fixings. ๐Ÿฒ I noticed that they spread a bunch of salt on the road tonight. How to wash my truck if the car wash is closed?

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a New Moon ๐Ÿ†• . The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:23 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:52 am in the east (87ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:29 am with sun in the east (93ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow between 11am and 1pm, then a chance of rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 14th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. I’m hoping for a little sun, at least in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

Tomorrow I have a conference call midday and I’ll probably go out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for that then go hiking later ๐Ÿšถ at least on the loop road which won’t be so muddy. I got to order a new pair of boots, the ones I wear everyday are worn. I also need to amend one of my tax payments to the state so it has the updated SEFCU routing number. ๐Ÿ”ข

I am conceding that the president’s promise of the Coronavirus closures is probably a bit too optimistic ๐Ÿ‘พbut I think everybody is looking for closure on this chapter of history but it’s going to take a while longer especially as the illness so rapidly spreads despite all the efforts to slow it. โ›” Still I’m sure state bondholders are putting pressure on state leaders who are likewise seeing an enormous drop in revenue and the big cuts and tax hikes that will be needed to close the gap. ๐Ÿ’ต And I know a lot of people want to get back to work. ๐Ÿ‘ท

In four weeks on April 21 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) at 7:44 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 56 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, warm weather and temperatures between 72 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 39 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1923.

Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 6 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 32 weeks.

Setting Sun Over a Drumlin

March 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Snow and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a north-northeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธIt seems like we got a lot more snow than expected. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Its been so chaotic with all the changes due to social distancing ๐Ÿ‘พI ended up missing the virtual conference call I had for Save the Pine Bush tonight. ๐Ÿ“ž Never crossed my mind, listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to the presidents press conference. It’s good that he’s pushing reopening the country and putting people back to work after this brief pause in society for social distancing and slowing the spread of Coronavirus. We need to get moving again even if it hurts the elderly and frail people. ๐Ÿ‘ด It’s more important to help families get back to work and health care has had an additional two weeks to prepare for Coronavirus. ๐Ÿ˜ท

I rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for about 45 minutes while listening to the president and then worked on some maps. I worked from home today ๐Ÿก after getting chilled through down in the library parking lot working from my truck until the battery started to get low with no solar and the roads started to get icy.

Tonight will snow, mainly before 1am, then a chance of snow showers after 1am. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 33 degrees at 9pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 1st. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:53 am in the east (88ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:31 am with sun in the east (94ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 21st. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

In four weeks on April 20 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) at 7:43 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 57 seconds later then tonight. Almost Sunset

March 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a east-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Kind of a cold evening for late March. All day wasn’t that warm for sure. Tomorrow going to snow but no real accumulation in the valley – too warm. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

So it was a good weekend. Didn’t get out to see my parents but I enjoyed some fresh air, ๐Ÿƒ spent some time hiking and exploring local preserves. Did what needed to get done, I’m glad I got the recycling taken care of, the truck repacked for camping and ready for the season to come. ๐Ÿ”Œ Got my laptop car charger plug replaced, picked up the stuff I needed from the office, got groceries and did my laundry.

I am feeling a lot better today, the cold and sore throat faded away. It may have been just stress and allergies but I was very worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ most of last week of catching Coronavirus. Truth be told, I don’t expect any social contact this week besides maybe passing somebody on the trail more than six feet away if at all possible. Dog bite wasn’t fun but it was a non event, except for the ripped jeans. I don’t think the owners even knew the dog bit me but it was cold walking back.

Wish I had hiked a little further though and stayed out until dusk but I was running low on dry trails to explore. ๐Ÿ‘ข My every day work boots after six months of daily use are getting worn out, I really got to think about ordering more this week.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 30 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Monday, April 6. Pinkster festival – that’s one that’s come and gone in Albany but for decades it was a tradition. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:27 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:55 am in the east (88ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:32 am with sun in the east (95ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow before 3pm, then rain and snow. ๐ŸŒง High of 38 degrees at 5pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 29th. Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. Tomorrow I will actually work from home, but Tuesday it will be back to working in the truck using the wifi at the library and Five Rivers. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1938. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.โ„ Winter is kind of winding down as the snow records show.

In four weeks on April 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) at 7:42 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 57 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies, warm weather, with a few rain showers and temperatures between 77 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1976.

Looking ahead, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 2 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 3 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is a month away, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 7 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 8 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 11 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 12 weeks and Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 3 months.

Pull Off Along the Truck Trail

March 21, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to be a fairly cold night. I better turn the heat back on.

It was a good day, busy but productive. Visited and hiked in two states. ๐Ÿšถ Certainly you could say that I practiced a lot of social distancing today in the sense of how many miles I traveled ๐Ÿš˜. I haven’t been to Massachusetts in quite a while, it was nice to go somewhere different for a change. Really just a drive down US 7 and Massachusetts 43 through Williamstown and Hadley, the later more rural and less gentrified. I like farms that are dirty, muddy and with lots of junk and livestock wandering around in the muck.

I actually planning on going to Grafton Lakes for a while but it was such a nice afternoon, why don’t I go a little further. I figured the Taconic Crest Trail would be a less popular than the state park. โ›ฒ There really wasn’t much crowds, which was really what I was looking for – not just for good health but to seek some solitude. ๐Ÿ™

I gased up the truck โ›ฝ and got groceries ๐Ÿ. I ended up stopping at the new Shop Rite in North Greenbush. They were remarkably well stocked at least for the products I wanted but I tell you I’m glad I bought toilet paper ๐Ÿšฝ two weeks ago before the nation went Corona Nuts. Ultimately though, I think economic growth and tax revenues are so valuable that a return to normalcy can’t be that far away. ๐Ÿ’ฐ If the stores are closed, they can’t pay rent and businesses can’t pay taxes and states can’t pay doctors or police officers. ๐Ÿšจ It will be very sad to hear about all the folks dying and hopefully it won’t be too many people I know personally but ultimately time marches on. โ™ฅ Sometimes the good die young.

Also repaired the plug ๐Ÿ”Œ on my car laptop charger and tested it out and it’s working great. This is important when I’m working from my truck as the DC charger is much more energy efficient, cutting the load on the batteries and solar panel by 20 percent or more. โšก Rather than converting the voltage to 120 volt AC, the car charger uses a DC boost converter to step the 12-15 volts up to 19.5 volts for the laptop. I also picked up a mobile broadband card from work for really shitty days โ˜ when I have no choice but to work from home. Also brought home my second laptop charger and my phone cradle as I figured it would be good to have home as nobody knows how long social distancing will last, although I still think it will be economics not healthcare that decides. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 10th. North wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had light rain. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Sunday, April 5. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:29 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:57 am in the east (89ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Yeap, we’re past the first day of spring. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:34 am with sun in the east (95ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 9th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2012. 7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Tomorrow the priority is first thing to visit the laundromat. ๐Ÿšฟ Got to have clean clothes although that’s less of an issue when I work from Big Red while social distancing. Early on a Sunday morning is less likely to be crowded. Just try to maintain social space. I am not going to my parents house for Sunday dinner ๐Ÿฒ this week and that’s where I usually do my wash.

Ever since I took more generic Claritin D allergy medicine I a lot feel better ๐Ÿ’Š but still I want to stay away from my older parents in case besides my allergies I have a minor case of Coronavirus. ๐Ÿณ They really wanted me to stop at the house and drop off eggs that I picked up for them at the store but truth be told, if it’s more than allergic reaction to the mold in my apartment then I don’t want to get them sick and in the hospital, ๐Ÿฅeven just from tossing a case of eggs on their door ๐Ÿšช step.

I might also go out to Partridge Run later on. ๐Ÿšถ It would be nice to spend more time in the woods and get away from it all. I suspect up there if I choose wisely my route I’ll never run into another human being, at least not one who is carrying a gun and doing social distancing for a totally different reason. ๐Ÿ”ซ I know people are saying they’re hearing a lot more gun shots in the woods during the weekdays with so many kids out of school and business closed – people are shooting targets ๐ŸŽฏ and probably glass bottles ๐Ÿถ and crow season ๐Ÿฆ is still open.

In four weeks on April 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) at 7:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 58 seconds later then tonight. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1976.
