March 26, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Six weeks to Flower Moon 🌕. Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. I turned off the heat and will probably open some of the windows in a bit. Honestly if I go out in a bit I won’t have any shortage of solar power for my laptop. That said, my power situation is pretty good now that I got the car charger working again – it’s totally silent and saves a lot of power.
Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 58 degrees at 5pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.❄
Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8° from the due south horizon (-21° vs. 6/21). Not quite 50 degrees. A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (268°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (274°) starting at 7:12 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:43 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west (265°) at an altitude of 19° from the horizon, 250,340 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have isolated showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1975.
It looks like the weekend forecast has improved a bit. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, rain. High near 51. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.
Almost sounds nice enough to head out of town for the weekend ⛺ but the question 🙋 is where to go. There is still quite a bit of snow up north and probably things are really muddy in Madison County. Plus I don’t trust the forecast – I still think there is a decent chance for cloudy ☁ skies this weekend and I’m not thrilled about the idea of staying in a campground if there are others anywhere nearby. I bet Madison County smells very earthy and cow like 🚜 with all farmers working the land.
Starting to think about getting a new phone 📱, mainly because my current one is always low on memory and tends to be slow and now would be a good time to get it when I’m home 🏡 and can sign for the package rather than have to drive to Menands. This LG Sunset phone has held up well for the past three years, although I did replace the battery 🔋 once. They’re not really expensive for the basic tract phones that I use but I hate to replace something that’s not worn out. 🚮
Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Flower Moon 🌕 when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930. Longer, warmer days and black flies aren’t far away.
