November 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 52 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. ๐ŸŒŒ Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees.

It’s a nice mild evening under the stars โœจ laying back under the very starry skies. I dimmed the lights so I could see the stars better and because I’m a little low on power after charging my work laptop while I was working at the Cazenovia laptop. ๐Ÿ”‹ Lot of sun but the solar panel angle flat on the truck isn’t very good this time of the year.

The moon is rising now, ๐ŸŒ– and being such a clear evening should be a very nice moonlit evening. While I don’t plan on rushing out tomorrow, truth be told that with the time change ๐Ÿ•’ darkness will return early. It’s maybe not as warm as a summer night by still pretty nice. A lot of people up here tonight, which is unusual for November but it’s so mild out.

Not as quiet up here as last night ๐Ÿคซ, as there are a lot of people camping up here for November โ›บ but I guess that’s to be expected with the unusually mild weather this year. In contrast, in 2018 was a terribly cold November. โ„ I’m just happy that I can get away and I’m not paying for a shit ton of heat at home. I brought my camp heater with me but I doubt I’ll need it any time this weekend. It’s still in the bag.

Had more hot coca โ˜• and dipped Halloween Candy ๐Ÿฌ in it, watching as the wrappers melted and burnt in the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. So much easier when you can use your paper plates and just burn the trash rather than washing out the bottles and cans for pretend recycling โ™ป. I can’t wait until eventually live out in the country and just burn the burnables.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

All and all it was a pretty good day, โ˜บ and while I had some online meetings and work to do it was in general a pretty quiet day so I took a long lunch break and hiked around Cazenovia and then down around Nelson Swamp before returning back to camp before night quickly fell again. Mornings are still quite dark although the moonlight was pretty bright before dawn. ๐ŸŒŒ Had a bit of the runs come morning but I squatted off my tailgate and sprayed it on the ground and just sholved up the poopy leaves into the fire pit come morning.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 64% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:24 pm. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Sunday, November 22. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:15 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:26 am with sun in the east-southeast (119ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 2pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Tomorrow I plan to hike around Chittenango State Park ๐Ÿž and maybe some of the Link trail ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and the Fenner Wind Farm or some other other parks.

In four weeks on December 4 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at 4:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 19 minutes and 43 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 36 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 26 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1998.

Come December I might do another trip โ›บ but it depends on the weather. I don’t have a lot of vacation time left but it would be nice to do some winter camping before the end of the year. ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 1 week, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is a month away, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 4 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is a month away, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 6 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 7 weeks, New Years Day 2021 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 8 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 9 weeks, 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 12 weeks and Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 3 months.

November 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Going to be a beautiful day for sure. Next Friday is Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ. Sunny and 53 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Park. ๐ŸŒž There is a southwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees.

Heading to Cazenovia to work from the library Wi-Fi ๐Ÿ“š and then maybe head to Lakefront Park ๐Ÿž on this most beautiful, warm November day. I have a 11 o’clock meeting so I’ll need to be down there by mid day. Then I want to be back to camp before dark. I want to park in the sun so I can recharge my batteries as much as possible before the long night is upon us again.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 2pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 4th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 12pm. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 31ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:09 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:18 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:53 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 2nd. Southwest wind around 9 mph. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

The days are short ๐ŸŒƒ but with the warm nights, I an sure tonight will be quite pleasant by the fire, assuming that I have enough power. ๐Ÿ’ก It sucks my lantern isn’t working properly but I’m hoping to park in the sun to recharge my batteries today. ๐Ÿ”‹

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 11am. West wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Should be a great day on Saturday. โ˜บ I want to poke around the trails at Chittenango State Park and a few other places and enjoy them as much as possible before it starts to get dark again. Nights sure are long this time of year but I guess that means more time around the campfire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 68. ๐ŸŒž West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 48 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Sunday morning I have to take down camp โ›บ as my three nights will have expired. I am going to head home as Monday will be busy and Tuesday is meetings day downtown at work. ๐Ÿข It would be nice to see mom and dad on Sunday too.

As previously noted, next Friday is Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:41 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 26 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

November 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 51 degrees at the Stoney Pond. ๐ŸŒŒ There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

A nice evening quite mild ๐Ÿ for November out here in Madison County. ๐Ÿฎ Quite mild but the leaves are all gone and the nights are quite long at this point. It was a nice drive out here but kind of a long trip because I had to stop ๐Ÿ›‘ for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป calls ๐Ÿ“ž and meetings. Plus I also got food ๐Ÿฒ at the Hannaford in Esperance – I was a bit creeped out by the clerk touching my shopping bags ๐Ÿ› and my ID. I’m just so used to people so aggressively social distancing in the Albany area and not wanting to touch others property. I mean the check out lady ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ was very friendly in the small town kind of way.

I did enjoy the drive out here along US 20 and the rural countryside. ๐Ÿšœ Still farmers bringing in the high moisture corn ๐ŸŒฝ but the land is very gray with lots of browns. Not much has changed along the road in recent weeks, the homes are still old and ramshackle ๐Ÿš๏ธ, people doing the best they can to make a living off the land. The fields are being fertilized, the air has that pungent but essential smell ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป of dairy country ๐Ÿ„ in the autumn months. I hope to eventually live in such deep rural areas but where there aren’t so many restrictions on guns ๐Ÿ”ซ and having a burning barrel ๐Ÿ›ข and bonfires ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I just want to own land out in the country where everybody leaves you alone. I love rundown houses with piles of manure, broke down tractors, goats ๐Ÿ tied out front and of course a burn barrel out back.

I was actually surprised how few big TRUMP signs I saw along the way. ๐ŸšฉWhile I did see some Trump flags and signs, I’ve certainly seen more over the top displays on the back roads of the Adirondacks or Pennsylvania. At one level, I do get the appeal of the president – some of those urban laws and policies do come down hard on farm families and country boys who are trying to scrape a living from the dirt. ๐Ÿšœ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then becoming mostly clear toward daybreak ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Still can see some stars โœจ but I wouldn’t call it a really clear night. But definitely mild. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 2nd. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had light rain. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

I had a nice big fire tonight ๐Ÿ”ฅ as I was fortunate somebody else had left a pile of wood at their campsite. Thats good because after reassembling the camp lantern ๐Ÿฎ it didn’t work. Had a couple of beers ๐Ÿป and a big pot of macaroni and cheese ๐Ÿง€ with diced tomatoes ๐Ÿ… and topped with bread crumbs. A fitting meal ๐Ÿด for a long winter night. โ˜• Also had some coca and chocolate ๐Ÿซ candy I bought on sale after Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡.

I sat and listened to the radio ๐Ÿ“ป coverage of the presidential election. No real big news ๐Ÿ“ฐ right now but I seems like Joe Biden is pulling ahead. I’m not a big fan of Joe Biden – I voted for the libertarian Jo Jergenson ๐Ÿ—ฝ but I do ultimately think ๐Ÿค” Biden would be far more professional than Trump but I hope congress keeps him on a short leash. ๐Ÿถ I think every president should be impeached from time to time to keep them accountable and honest. โš–

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 74% illuminated. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Saturday, November 21. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:14 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:44 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:25 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 6th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 1pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

Going to be an absolutely beautiful day tomorrow. โ˜บ All weekend should be nice. I’m going to work from Cazenovia library ๐Ÿ“š and then spend some time down by the lake. ๐Ÿž Saturday and Sunday will be much more relaxed and I’ll head home before dark on Sunday which happens early this time of year.

In four weeks on December 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at 4:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 20 minutes and 42 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 32 and 22 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 2009.

Looking ahead, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is a month away, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 5 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 7 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 8 weeks, National Bird Day ๐Ÿง is in 2 months, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 10 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 12 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 14 weeks and National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 15 weeks.

November 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy November ๐Ÿฅง! This is my favorite month of the year. Mostly because of the pumpkin pie. ๐ŸŽƒ Plus I love the ways the woods looks on a clear November Day and long nights around the campfire. ๐Ÿ”ฅBig warm up next week. ๐Ÿ˜ŠFive weeks to First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ.

We’ve had a few breaks of sun, but I’d say it’s mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธNot uncommon for November.

It was a nice hike to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ yesterday but it sure gets dark early now and even darker come today with the time change. Nice bright Halloween Blue Moon ๐ŸŒ• last night – I looked at it through the window but it was kind of cold so I stayed inside. Still having a lot of trouble sleeping so I retired to bed early last night ๐Ÿ› and took full advantage of the extra hour of sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด during the extra hour we got last night.

The autumn sleeping problem ๐Ÿ’ค is particularly accute this year but I’ve been trying to get to bed ๐Ÿ› extra early and sleep up later to deal with the many hours I spend awake in the wee hours of the day listening to random podcasts. ๐Ÿšœ Learning a lot about random agriculture topics and hunting ๐ŸฆŒ when I end up at two AM not being able to sleep. I am going to buy some sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š today. At least with the extra hours in bed I’ve been sleeping I haven’t been super tired in the day time like in years past.

Today will have showers, mainly after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 50 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 10th. More mercury than yesterday but colder with a breeze and showers. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1950. 3.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.โ„

With the rain it’s certain to get dark early tonight. ๐ŸŒƒ The time change too. I have some work stuff to do this afternoon ๐Ÿ’ป before I squeeze in a walk assuming it’s not raining out this evening.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 32.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. This time of year the sun is quite weak and the shadows quite long. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:09 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 5:17 pm, which is one hour, one minute and 18 seconds earlier than yesterday due to the time change. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:52 pm. At sunset, look for gusty rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 50 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow showers before 4am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 5am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 13th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2002.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm.

 Back In New York

October 30, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Busy day ๐Ÿ’ปand while I worked from home it still seemed like the time past quickly. ๐Ÿ•’ I thought I’d be very cranky with the lack of sleep I got last night ๐Ÿ˜ต but things turned out fine. I was glad to at least get outside for my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I sure hope midwinter I won’t be penned up for remote work – I like working downtown where I can go for a walk during lunch time.

Cold night tonight, going to feel more like Christmas Time ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿฟ๐ŸŽ„ then late October. Than again, tomorrow is Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ and November the next day. Colder weather ain’t uncommon today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

I decided it’s cold enough tonight โ„ to warrant turning on the heat โ™จ a bit before bed. Very damp outside, it would have been very cold in Brookfield and probably a lot of snow. ๐Ÿ˜จ I’m sure after walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป tonight I made the right decision to stay home. ๐ŸŽƒ That said halloween camping under the full moon would have been fun. ๐Ÿ‘ป

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 99% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (113ยฐ) at an altitude of 34ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,272 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by May 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Blue ๐ŸŒ Moon is on Saturday, October 31. The darkest hour is at 12:40 am, followed by dawn at 6:59 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:28 am in the east-southeast (108ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 3 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:08 am with sun in the east-southeast (115ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over last night.

The moonlight is nice tonight ๐ŸŒ• now that the clouds are parting with Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ Blue Moon. Anytime Halloween has a full moon by definition it’s a blue moon. But it was kind of damp while I was out my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I guess next to a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ it wouldn’t be that bad but next weekend looks sunnier โ˜€ and warmer even if with the time change ๐Ÿ•’ the sun sets early. More time for cooking and hanging out by the fire. With the music ๐ŸŽถ and lights I’ve never had an issue with a bear ๐Ÿป at camp.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 29th. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2019. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.โ„

In four weeks on November 27 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) at 4:24 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 26 minutes and one second earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 31 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 28 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 1896.

Looking ahead, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 2 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 4 weeks, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ• is a month away, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 5 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 7 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 8 weeks, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 2 months, New Years Day 2021 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 9 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 10 weeks and 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 13 weeks.

Gorge Below Upper Falls

October 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final Tuesday in October. ๐ŸŽƒ Next Tuesday is Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ. Easy to forget if you don’t own one of those colored televisions. ๐Ÿ“บ I probably should return my absentee ballot ๐Ÿ—ณ soon. Certainly post mark it by next Tuesday.

Mostly because I want a check โ˜‘ box next to two ought two ought on my buff card ๐Ÿ’ณ. Not like there are competive elections locally. I am still hoping to drop it off at the Early Vote site to save the 55 cents, if the crowds taper off. While there may be a separate drop off box ๐Ÿ—ƒ, I don’t want to be in crowds during a pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พI figure my government file ๐Ÿ“‚ is big enough, might as well have some good things in it. I’m not hopeful at dropping the ballot off today, the line is over 500 feet before 9 o’clock.

Mostly cloudy and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Out for my morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Rain has stopped and it’s a pretty nice day. Colors in the mountains are faded. โ›ฐ After my walk I’m going to take a quick shower ๐Ÿšฟ and then head downtown ๐Ÿš for the Tuesday meetings ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and work sessions. Honestly it’s nice to have a real desk ๐Ÿ–ฅ to work at especially with it being so cold and damp to work down at the library parking lot. ๐Ÿ…ฟ.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 52 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 5th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-36.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:16 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:56 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 6:23 pm, which is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) at an altitude of 18ยฐ from the horizon, 249,219 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:58 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly between 7pm and 10pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 22nd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1974.

Governor Ronald Reagan in 1964 delivers a speech on behalf of the Republican candidate for president, Barry Goldwater. The speech launches his political career and comes to be known as “A Time for Choosing”. ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ Honestly much of the kookiness that was Goldwater grafted on to Billy Fuscillo became Trump. Biden is a throw back to an earlier era but I expect he’s competent and probably will be a power broker with all his experience in the Senate. I do hope Trump loses even though I don’t like Biden being unchecked.

Going to be cold but fairly sunny this weekend. โ„ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 46. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

I am thinking about going out to Brookfield this weekend to hunt ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฟ๏ธand camp โ›บ but it depends on how much snow we get ๐ŸŒจ as I am not ready to deal with icy and salt covered roads yet. Might be fun but cold though camping out on Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ ๐ŸŽƒ ๐Ÿ‘ป under a blue moon. ๐ŸŒ• Maybe get candy ๐Ÿฌ so I can give out to the kids that don’t stop by in the wilderness. But candy is good to eat ๐Ÿ˜‹ and watch the wrappers burn up in fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

October 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 pm.

I am back home ๐Ÿก as it’s going to rain tomorrow in Central NY and quite honestly I don’t want to drive home at 5 or 6 pm tomorrow in the dark especially in rain. Plus working all day under a tarp or in the truck doesn’t seem like much fun.

To be sure, it was a beautiful weekend ๐Ÿ‚ even if clouds pushed in early on Sunday. No rain โ˜” but it was cold on Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ Camping Area ๐Ÿ• and I didn’t have the whole area so I couldn’t listen to Jason Aldean as loud as I wanted ๐ŸŽถ while getting drunk ๐Ÿป next to roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. But the fire was big enough for a while that I was plenty to warm next to it.

I am cleaning out the cooler now โ‡๏ธ and I’ll get things ready to put back in the crawl space by morning. Then things will be packed up. With the late sunrise ๐ŸŒ… and my busy schedule I’m not planning any further trips โ›บ until November. This year I doubt I’ll have enough time to take a full week off of work though in November as I often do.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 12th. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 7% illuminated. The Blue ๐ŸŒ Moon is on Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ Saturday, October 31. After trick or treating and spread COVID-19 don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour ๐Ÿ•’ so you can sleep in one hour ๐ŸŽƒ. The darkest hour is at 12:41 am, followed by dawn at 6:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:13 am in the east-southeast (103ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:52 am with sun in the east-southeast (109ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 6 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 16th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 4pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1992.โ„

It looks like the weather will be better back home ๐Ÿก and I can work down at the library most of the day. Another busy day ahead, I’m glad I won’t be trying to drive back ๐Ÿš˜ in the dark.

In four weeks on November 15 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) at 4:32 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 35 minutes and 25 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 48 and 32 degrees. The record high of 74 degrees was set back in 1993.
