May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

Tulip Time!

April 29, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ . The skies will clear Saturday around 2 pm.

No real rain yet โ˜”, I went for my evening walk earlier. I also went to Five Rivers for a walk and to update the blog towards the end of the day. Nice weather to start out the day but it kind of slipped downhill as the day progressed. Had a brief rain shower before I went for my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ

Tonight will have isolated sprinkles before midnight, then a chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 46 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 11th. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 43% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (260ยฐ) at an altitude of 45ยฐ from the horizon, some 233,363 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 23rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:22 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:53 am in the east-northeast (69ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:32 am with sun in the east-northeast (76ยฐ). On sunny โ˜€ it’s bright out super early. Tonight will have 9 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 4pm. Breezy, with a southeast wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Tomorrow night into Friday is when the soaker will occur. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1903. There was a dusting of snow in 2008.โ„

Did some more research and I’m leaning towards the Coleman screened room for camping. ๐ŸŽช The 10×10′ size as that’s plenty of room for setting up my camp tables and having a chair in there away from the bugs with space to spare. I don’t want something too big as the campsites I’m often in are small. I’ll try to decide by the weekend there is a few more models I’m looking at. I doubt I’ll use it but on long weekend trips during black fly season and my summer vacation. It will be so nice to be able to sit outside of the truck cap when it’s super buggy out.

So far no bulls eye around the tick bite ๐ŸŽฏso I’m hopeful that I don’t have Lyme Disease although it does feel a bit that way in my arm and the tick was in there for a while. Once I do see the rash I’ll snap a picture and figure out the telemedicine benefit with my job. ๐Ÿ“ž I see CVS is heavily advertising their drive through service so that would be easy. I’m not super concerned as I’m very familiar with doxycycline ๐Ÿ’Š but I am ticked about getting Lyme so quickly again.

I’m looking at the forecast and I don’t see this weekend camping trip โ›บ happening. It’s just going to rain too late into Friday and everything will be soaking wet come Saturday. Relatively mild but still cold. I’d like to see things green up some more then I might go out to Schoharie County for the weekend or maybe even a long weekend. I am still thinking with all the campgrounds and other areas closed the places I like to camp will be packed so I should plan a psuedo Memorial Day Weekend the week before or after. Just take the Friday or Monday off work to celebrate it. I have a lot of time as I haven’t taken any time off since I’ve been working from home the past seven weeks now (wow, yeap). ๐Ÿ€

In four weeks on May 27 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:22 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 3 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1914.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 8 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 38 weeks.

Finger of Rensselaer Lake

April 26, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช I guess if you have internet at home you can stream virtual church but I’d rather spend my time in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ God can be heard by listening to the birds ๐Ÿฆ which I still enjoy giving the middle finger too. Two weeks to Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€. Time to get out that Frank Zappa record, Motherly Love. ๐Ÿ˜ Cloudy and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Rain is definitely coming…. For most of the next week according to the radar. ๐Ÿ’ฆ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Tuesday around 2 pm.

I don’t know, maybe last night would have been fine in the woods ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณโ›บ but it wasn’t a real starry night ๐ŸŒƒ with the clouds pushing in early and the breeze pushing in and things super dry and buggy in the hill towns. ๐Ÿœ I was planning on going to Rennselearville State Forest to hammock camp but I think I’ll wait until the nights are warmer and less buggy. I think yesterday the black flies had just hatched from the warm weather.

Even though I didn’t camp ๐Ÿšถ I had a nice day when I started out at Black Creek Marsh (highly recommended early mornings, especially off Depot Road) and then hiked up old Partridge Run Road to Fawn Lake then over to the Gulf and ultimately along the ridge line. I mostly shot those photos ๐Ÿ“ท with the other camera, I’ll upload them this week. I was darn tired ๐Ÿ˜ด when I got home and went to bed.

Today will rain, mainly after 11am. ๐ŸŒง High of 55 degrees at 9am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. Temperatures will drop through the day, their getting snow in the mountains late. โ„Right now though I have my windows open for fresh air but I’ll close them before I go to the store. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 61.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-9.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:12 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (290ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:20 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (272ยฐ) at an altitude of 32ยฐ from the horizon, 242,202 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:58 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 38 degrees at 11pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Just a cold wet rain here. North wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.

Plans for today include washing the truck ๐Ÿš˜ and running to Walmart. ๐Ÿช Hopefully it won’t be too crowded but there is a lot of things I need and today would be a good day to do it. I have some projects coming down the pike on Monday for work so I expect a busy day then. Next weekend it might be a good week to go back to the Adirondacks for the weekend depending on the weather. I want to do a trip out to Schoharie but not until things green up in in May.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:05 pm with dusk at 8:37 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 69 and 52 degrees. I remember, I was camping up at Stewart Landing and it was kind of a cold and wet morning. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1970.

Echo Lake Leanto

April 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is May 1st. Been such a cold spring it’s hard to imagine that next week is May. It’s only just starting to green up in Albany. ๐ŸŒธ Rain and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. 0.14 inches of rain is expected before it ends around 4 pm. Not a lot of rain predicted and Saturday will be nice.

Coffee โ˜• and wild berry muffins this morning for breakfast. Also cream cheese. It was a pretty decent breakfast not as heavy or labor intensive as making eggs ๐Ÿณ like I did yesterday. No birds ๐Ÿฆ out the window to give the middle finger too. I do get a laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚ out of giving the bird to the birds. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m nuts.

Wish it was nicer out but I really shouldn’t complain much ๐ŸŒป– I am sure hot and humid days are right around the corner. It will kind of suck this year if state park swimming ๐ŸŠ pools are closed because of Coronavirus.

Today will rain likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Kind of a dreary day for sure. ๐Ÿ’ฆ April Showers bring May flowers although they’ll be no tulip festival ๐ŸŒท this year not that I ever went to that except for tabling for Save the Pine Bush a few years ago. But it’s nice when things green up except of course for the black flies.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 247,483 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 12th. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Typical for tomorrow. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like a remarkably nice spring day. โ˜€ I have to get early up tomorrow but I should have most of the day to enjoy spending in the woods. ๐ŸŒฟ I’m thinking about hiking in the afternoon and maybe hammock camping โ›บ in a state forest, although it might be a bit chilly and wet by morning. I think the rain is coming early come Sunday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Definitely going to be a real dreary day. I’m going to have to get some more videos to watch from the library Wi-Fi and some more data to make up maps.

Paid my rent or actually the bank did ๐Ÿฆ as next week is May. Hopefully enough of my neighbors are too and my landlord isn’t going bankrupt. ๐Ÿก He does have a nice house over the river but who knows what his cash flow situation is like. I know a lot of out of work people aren’t paying rent. I also had to cancel the double bill for my car insurance – they kindly sent me a second bill for the time period with a later deadline and a reduced payment – but it meant that I cancel that from auto bill pay as I had already paid my bill for the next six months. ๐Ÿ’ต

I am still waiting on my stimulus check to arrive ๐Ÿ’ฐ but because I didn’t owe or get anything refunded from the federal government this year, I don’t think they have my information on file and the last I checked their website wasn’t working. I was hoping it would come sooner rather than later so I could use it partially to buy index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds when the market is still cheap. I’m young I’m not phased much about the sluggish performance of the market lately. I do think at some point Coronavirus will kill who it’s going to kill (hopefully not me or loved ones) and then we’ll move forward. Ten years from now I expect the markets to be a lot stronger and then I can buy land. ๐Ÿšœ

As previously noted, next Friday is May 1st ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:55 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 56 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

 Cat Tails

April 21, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. At times though, it’s been pretty windy. Temperatures will drop below freezing at midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I worked at home today ๐Ÿก and it was a pretty busy day although the mobile internet super flaky. ๐Ÿ“ถI try to avoid using the work bandwidth as much as possible but it would not have been a nice day to work at Five Rivers or the library. Plus if I use my work laptop rather than my personal one, I don’t have to worry about formatting issues in Microsoft Word. ๐Ÿ“

This evening ๐ŸŒƒ it was pasta for dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Tomorrow I may go to Wally World and the Car Wash with the bandana over my face. Rained hard midday but that doesn’t clean the undercarriage of Big Red ๐Ÿš˜ plus it’s been a week since my last big grocery shop and I’m a bit low on food. I thought some more about camping this weekend but I just was up north last weekend and I think I’ll wait another week or two for things to warm up and get greener. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒทI guess if it’s a nice enough evening and not super cold I could sit down by the river and work with a fishing pole ๐ŸŽฃ in one hand tomorrow.

Never showered or shaved ๐Ÿšฟ today as there was no Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น or reason to look nice for the world. ๐ŸŒŽ It was cold out at first for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but once I got burning calories I didn’t feel real cold. That wind at times though sure is intense.

I do miss the library not being open for having the kiosks inside to quietly work on my laptop. ๐Ÿ“š While working in my truck on the blog is fine, I used to really enjoy having a block of time at the library to work on my blog using my laptop. ๐Ÿ’ป I know eventually though we will get through the pandemic and the library will reopen but I hate how there is no time line. I just want this to be over, go back to work, ride the bus every day ๐Ÿš and enjoy life in the basement office. ๐Ÿข Some of the protests may be obnoxious but so many of us crave normalcy and our freedoms restored.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 5:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:05 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:43 am with sun in the east (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1985. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like it will be miserably cold with the wind for Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ. But hopefully the sun will be nice for a while although I expect more clouds on Thursday into Friday. โ˜ Just a late spring this year, the werid year of Coronavirus. Eventually the jet steam will push north and it will be like 80 or 90 degrees every day. I’ve heard it’s been that way already down in Missouri, at least on the Farm and Hammer ๐Ÿ”จ cattle farmer channel I like on the YouTube ๐Ÿฎ.

In four weeks on May 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) at 8:15 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 86 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1989.

Looking ahead, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 2 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 28 weeks.

 Pattern

March 26, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Laying out back in my truck cap, reading ๐Ÿ“– a book about tiny house living. Nice evening. The snow is gone once again but we could some day once again have snow in the closing days of March or April. But I’m not urging it on. โ„ Honest, I want the snow to be home so I can travel and camp. At least it won’t be cold for a while. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was another pretty quiet day at work, ๐Ÿ’ป I went down to the library for a while to do some research I couldn’t just do on my phone. I then came home and sat my phone and nothing further came in. I ended up sitting out back, working on some blog posts and doing some reading ๐Ÿ“– until it was time to clock out. ๐Ÿ•’ Things have been so disorderly since the mandatory work from home started and while it’s good to be employed – unlike the millions that aren’t – it’s scary times for sure. ๐Ÿ‘พ I just keep reading the headlines and I get the numbers game society is up against and both the crushing economic challenges we face and the near impossibility of stopping a virus that doubles every six days, which means every six day you raise it to the n-th power.

I just want things to return to normal. ๐Ÿš Get up every morning, catch the bus downtown, take the express bus home at five o’clock, ๐Ÿ•”head out of town in the summer to camp โ›บ, not excessively worry about washing one’s hands or touching a public door knob. ๐Ÿšช Simple things that are gone from our lives today. Old routines everyday at work, a predictable future ๐Ÿ”ฎ. It does save time working from home and I can sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด in late but I liked the old routine, visiting my family ๐Ÿ‘ช and seeing my colleagues at work.

Later on in the evening, I walked down to the park โ›ฒ. Odd to go down there on such a nice night and see nobody there except some outlaw teens playing basketball ๐Ÿ€ at least until the cops ๐Ÿ‘ฎ see it and tell them to go home. I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about bringing my book down there to read ๐Ÿ“– but truth be told I didn’t really want to sit on the park bench and sitting on grass is not a good idea as I’ve picked up ticks there before and this is a bad tick year. ๐Ÿœ

Honestly I don’t want to get Coronavirus if I can all avoid it – I’ve been very socially isolated and when I’m out walking ๐Ÿšถ I try hard to maintain distance. The last public place I was in since Saturday was Stewart’s and in the past two weeks the only other two public places outside of the woods or my truck is North Greenbush Shop Rite ๐Ÿช and Stewart’s Gas. โ›ฝ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. South wind 5 to 9 mph. I closed the windows โฌœ but the heat remains off. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 6% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west (268ยฐ) at an altitude of 16ยฐ from the horizon, some 250,323 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 2nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บGoing to take a while to get there if you obey the dictims of the Albany. At least once your there, you’ll have a hell of a social distancing going on. But then again, your probably not going to get Coronavirus through your space suit. ๐Ÿ‘ฝThe moon will set in the west-northwest (283ยฐ) at 9:32 pm. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:20 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:48 am in the east (86ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:25 am with sun in the east (92ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Should be another real nice day. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1998. 6.7 inches of snow fell back in 1959.โ„

In four weeks on April 23 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (288ยฐ) at 7:46 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. The record high of 87 degrees was set back in 2007.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 8 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

I am looking forward to that holiday weekend, and hopefully by then the worse of Coronavirus will be done ๐Ÿ‘พand things will have a chance to return to the normal swatting at black flies. Yes, I really should plan on speeding more time in researching a screened in picnic table tent to make black fly season camping โ›บ a lot more fun.

March 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Climbing the Hump, coasting to the weekend. Not going to be a real nice weekend though. Next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก. You know, I don’t actually miss the late nights at work that much working on the state budget. I’m quite fine working 9-5, even if I’d does mean I’m working out my truck during Coronavirus. ๐Ÿš Strangely enough, I actually miss the routine of taking the bus to work and the quiet time it gives me to work on my blog ๐Ÿ“ and think while I ride to work.

Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There is maybe an inch of wet globby snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Most of the snow from yesterday is gone at least in the city. But I’m sure the ground is really sloppy at this point. At least the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ danger is low for the next few days although the long range is calling for below average precipitation for early spring before things green up. Campfires are exempt from the Pete Grannis burn ban, as long as they’re under 3 foot by 4 foot (no bonfires until after May 15th) but commonsense matters. It’s really easy to start a grass fire this time of year and have to be stomping it out.

Today will have isolated sprinkles after noon. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. We aren’t getting the rain their getting down in Pennsylvania as the front is stalled south of us but I’m not hopeful of much sun. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

So I have that Zoom Meeting online conference training session ๐Ÿ’ป at one o’clock today so I’ll probably go to Five Rivers for that. It should be relatively quiet there and afterwards I’ll go for a walk on one of the drier trails. ๐Ÿšถ Not expecting much snow to be left come the afternoon. I wish we would have more sun, it would be more pleasant and provide more solar power but I can’t control the weather. I am glad Zoom Meeting has Linux software as much as I don’t like installing closed source binary programs. โ‡

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:37 pm with the sun in the west (267ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) starting at 7:11 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (268ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, 251,596 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, rain likely before 8am, then showers, mainly after 8am. High near 49. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.

It doesn’t look like a real nice weekend but at least it will be fairly mild โ˜ and maybe the forecast is improving. I don’t have any plans for the weekend at this time, possibly the following weekend I’ll take a week or part of a week off for camping โ›บ and trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃbut that’s to be determined. Except for pumping gas โ›ฝ I doubt I’ll have much in social interaction, I can always wear some of those nitrile gloves while pumping gas I have for butchering ๐Ÿ”ช game. Honestly I’m not that worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ, they’re is only so much one can do to prevent getting Coronavirus.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก when the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.
