Good evening! Partly cloudy and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡๏ธ Not so cold this evening, the wind has died down.

I was over a Cynthia Pooler apartment for a while trying to figure out how to make the Save the Pine Bush camera work properly 🎥 but we ran into some issues but were going to try to cut some video on Saturday but holding off on the top of the line people until we’ve mastered the camera.

I was a bit concerned about catching the bus home in time from her house but I hurried and made it in time. It’s really not far from the Executive Apartments to the bus stop at Price Chopper 🚏and the street lighting with the new LED lights makes walking 🚶 those streets far less creepy. I actually think that neighborhood has improved somewhat in recent years, I know some of my former co-workers used to live up there.

I had the fish sticks 🐠 and tater tots and green beans tonight that I wanted to have the other night. We were talking about all the fancy places people like to eat out but I just find restaurant food to be so wasteful and unhealthy. 🍴 I’m not much of a cook but I prefer to cook my own out of inexpensive ingredients that I buy in bulk at Walmart. It does get though at times though to come up with new meal ideas. But I’d rather save money 💵 and invest in a better tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 22 degrees at 9pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 13 at 9pm; South wind 9 to 14 mph. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1968.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 99% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east-northeast (72ยฐ) at an altitude of 16ยฐ from the horizon, some 235,958 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. The darkest hour is at 12:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:10 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. South wind 10 to 13 mph. Better think about wearing my rain coat. Or maybe not. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2016. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

In four weeks on February 6 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at 5:14 pm,🌄 which is 34 minutes and 45 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 33 and 16 degrees. The record high of 55 degrees was set back in 1991.

Planning to get to sleep shortly. 😴 Then I will get up at 6:30 again. Not that I need to get up that early but it adds a lot more time to my morning, that is if I don’t hit the snooze button too much. โฐ I like being up early, having a bunch of coffee โ˜• and having a few minutes to watch the sun rise and not be so busy. Even on the weekend I might set the alarm as I’m learning how healthy a common sleep schedule can be.

Looking ahead, National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is in 2 weeks, Snow Moon 🌕 is a month away, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 6 weeks, Worm Moon 🌕 is in 2 months and Flower Moon 🌕 is in 17 weeks.

Good evening! Mostly clear and 33 degrees at Moscow Hill Camping Area in Brookfield. Calm wind as we are tucked down in the valley. Smoke is going straight up from the fire. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 7 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Beautiful evening, mild for late December but the ground is still fairly frozen. โ›บ That said I’m sure these campsites have a thick pack of gravel because they’re trampled by horses 🐴 and heavy horse trailers and diesel pickup trucks all summer long. These sites have those nice little pavilions that the DEC has at a number of state forests in Central and Western New York. 🏡 They’re perfect for handing up lights and cooking and preparing food under. 🍲 I wish they had them up at Cherry Ridge 🍒 but only at the horse camp 🐴.

I was originally planning on going up to Cherry Ridge 🍒 but the road was icy as it’s plowed but not sanded or salted beyond the seasonal use only. I probably would have been fine going up it but there is that one steep section towards the top so I decided against it in favor of Moscow Hill horse camp. 🐴 The riding season is done for the year and while it’s right off of the county highway, there is very little traffic nearby, certainly far less than NY 8. I think I made a good choice camping here and I forgot how nice the pavilions are. Plus being only fifteen minutes away from Shurburne it made for a nice drive down there to visit the Rogers Environmental Education Center. 🐸 No cellphone here but I kind of enjoy the solitude. 📱

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 4th. Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1933.

Madison County certainly is a brown and gray as I noted earlier. But that’s winter and that how the land is. So many neat old farm houses and real rough cut farms that are super muddy after it being relatively mild. 🐮 Lots of run down trailers, modular homes and even a few shed to homes. Not too many off grinders although I bet in the future – especially with new homes you’ll see more of that, especially on dirt roads without electric lines. 🔌

While I didn’t grow up in a trailer or a farm 🚜 I’ve always loved the gritty rural life. 😍 The piles of junk and manure. 🔧 The goats 🐐 tied to the tree, the homesteaders processing their own deer and hogs 🐖. They call it poverty or ignorant rednecks but those people are a lot smarter and privledged than I. Someday I’ll own an off grid cabin 🏡 and do a little homesteading myself but I’ll never be a true country boy  like those who were raised the life in a place like Southern Madison County. Sure, a lot of my neighbors growing up raised pigs and cows, llved in trailers or modular homes and even burned their own trash 🔥 but I grew up in an ordinary house in the country to college educated 🎓 parents. They had goats and chickens 🐔 buy were no means real country boys.

Tonight will have a with 15% illuminated with the moon setting at 6:57 pm. It is definitely a pretty beautiful little moon. The is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:31 am with the first light at 6:59 am, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 13th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1984. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1915.โ„

Tomorrow morning I’m taking down camp โ›บ and heading to Glimmerglass State Park before the rain โ˜”. As it is a fairly mild night, 🌃 I decided to not bother with the tent – I’ll be plenty warm once I get snuggled under the covers in my truck bed. I do like the warmth of the hot tent but it is a lot more work to set up and take down. If I were staying multiple nights or if it was colder I’d definitely had considered the tent.

In four weeks on January 25 the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm,🌄 which is 29 minutes and 57 seconds later then today. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 35 and 15 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 14 degrees. December 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ! Good day for burning all those boxes ๐Ÿ”ฅ that the Christmas presents ๐Ÿ“ฆ came in. Although I guess the greenies say the rednecks of the world should recycle โ™ป them. Apparently recycling cardboard is a good idea. Probably good for soaking up mud too. Christmas ๐ŸŽ„ is over, now they can go back to playing Freda Paine ๐Ÿ’ for the hundred ๐Ÿ’ฏ millionth time on the radio ๐Ÿ“ป. Or whatever is trendy these days, although Band of Gold is pretty singable. Does anybody even listen ๐Ÿ‘‚ to commercial radio anymore in the era of the MP3? I rarely do. Two weeks to Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ๐ŸŒฉ. I fully expect it to be cold and dry enough then to get a good shock. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I know in the state office building I used to work in the air was purty dry.

This morning is partly cloudy โ›… around freezing degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind ๐Ÿƒ. Not a half bad morning for late December. Bus is running on time ๐Ÿš Going to be another mild day, they’re is a trooper sitting at the Southern Boulevard Bridge. ๐ŸŒ‰ 45 mph section so probably not a lot of speeders but maybe he’s sitting up there looking for people yapping on their cellphones ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I know I can’t talk and drive, I find it hard to remember things when driving like what day of week it is. That said, I drive so little and when I’m on the road I often are in the sticks where there ain’t reception ๐Ÿ“ถ. I really should hook the bluetooth back up with my phone on my truck, it got reset the last time I reset my phone. But I use it so rarely, it’s hardly needed.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 3rd. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1895. 13.9 inches of snow fell back in 1969.โ„

The sun will set at 4:27 pm with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 39 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain showers, snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet before midnight, then a chance of rain showers between midnight and 3am, then a chance of freezing rain after 3am. Sounds, charming, eh? I actually thought about leaving work on Friday early and driving out to Madison County but I decided it against it based on the forecast. Cloudyโ˜” , with a low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. South wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1914.

This weekend is going to very mild as especially out in the Finger Lakes but will end with a pretty good rain storm. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light in the afternoon. โ˜€ Sunday, a chance of rain after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 50%.โ˜” Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. It looks like Sunday evening into the Monday morning will be a good soaker, but I will bring extra tarps and books to read in the tent if it’s cold and wet.๐ŸŒง The heater will get keep the tent real comfortable. โ™จGood warm meals will be good even if it’s rainy,ย  ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ and if I gather plenty of wood up on Saturday into Sunday, ๐Ÿช“ I’ll have enough for a good fire on Monday and New Years Eve.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Never got around to testing the propane lantern. ๐Ÿฎ I think it’s working fine though, and I’m not sure what else I can do to repair it besides knock out that shit ton of carbon that I already knocked out of it. ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ’จ I realized if I tested it at home, I’d end up with a ton of propane in the line, that I’d have to burn out, and with only the latern hooked up, the pressure is such that it can take 15-20 minutes for all the propane to burn out of the line. I’ll bring a wrench to camp in case I need further adjustments, but I think it will work well now. ๐Ÿ”ง

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ ๐ŸŒฉ when the sun will be setting at 4:40 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2008.

Eleven degrees doesn't seem that bad

December 5, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 14.ย  At times, there is a definite breeze, but it’s helping to melt away the snow. There are 17 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Some melting but they’re is still a lot of snow and more expected tomorrow into Saturday.

When I first got home, I looked out the window and saw the reflection of what appeared to be a massive fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ reflected in the window. I was a little concerned but as soon as I saw it, within a few seconds the flames disappeared. I wasn’t sure what it is, it turned out to be a barbecue grill they had just lit with a lot of lighter fluid, plus the reflection off the snow. I obviously, if I was in the country, I wouldn’t have thought twice — or even looking out back where they have a fire pit. Heck, some day when I live out in the country, I’ll have lots of fires from heating to bonfires to waste disposal.โ™ป

This evening I went to Tom Ellis presentation over hydroelectric dams and the proposed Champlain Valley power line that would run under the Hudson River. ๐Ÿ”Œ If built it would bring a lot more Quebec hydroelectric to New York City but also encourage construction ๐Ÿšง of many mega dams in New York City. Very problematic. Attendance was light as the County Legislature was having their public hearing on the straws only on request law (one of the silly anti-plastic laws that gives the greenies ๐Ÿ’š a boner ๐Ÿ†) and also a presentation on the towns road diet for Delaware Avenue ๐Ÿšง.

I fixed the code and will post the updated weather tables to the blog tomorrow. โ˜€๐ŸŒฆ Some of the data now is a year old and when I went to run the update script it didn’t work due to changes in the NOAA data report format. But I updated the fields names and its working again.

Finished off the last of the Thanksgiving dinner left overs today ๐Ÿ— after reading a post on Facebook reminding me that Thanksgiving was a week ago. I know in a few days even if I left it in the fridge things would start to mold up. Refrigeration doesn’t stop mold or bacteria growth, it only slows it. See I’m learning something from the book I’m reading on butchering livestock. ๐Ÿ”ช

Road the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ some more, watched some of Imagine Acre Woods YouTube, another one of those North Idaho off grid pig farmers ๐Ÿฝ who happens to know North Country Off Grid too. Quite the handlebar mustache he has but I guess if you live off grid by oil lamp, raise hogs and yaks – hairy tough cows ๐Ÿฎ – you can do what you want. He does a lot of trout fishing and camping too on his channel but that’s what you do in North Idaho I guess. Looks like fun.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 14 at 11pm; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 75% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:13 am. The Cold Moon๐ŸŒ• is on Wednesday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:09 am with the first light at 6:38 am, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 10 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow likely, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 33 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. It’s a clipper storm but it could be impactful midday. Two years ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2001. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„

In four weeks on January 2 the sun will be setting at 4:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 10 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cold, partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 20 and -4 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1890.

Looking ahead, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 3 weeks, National Bird Day ๐Ÿง is a month away, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 5 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 7 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 4 months, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 5 months, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 22 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 months.

November 29, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Buy Nothing Day 🛍๏ธ! Hey it’s a holiday off from work so I can’t complain. I might have to run to the store to get some drain solvent for that stupid bathroom drain that always plugs and maybe you some cheese 🍊 and a few other supplies. Eggs without cheese for breakfast Isa criminal offense. 🍳 Next Friday is Saint Nicholas Day 🎅. I think I’m supposed to have a shoe 👟 graphic for that or Santa with the black face indicator flag on. Dutch pride! My grandmother a few generations back was very much proud Dutch. Dutch rednecks are the best especially those who migrate to Americas to farm or so I maintain based on the YouTube.

Mostly cloudy and 33 and 1/3 degrees or something like that in Delmar, NY. โ›… Probably the Dick Curless record I’m listening was probably a 45 single. The microgroove format war was horse 🐴 like those things often are. 💿 There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. I decided it’s too ducking cold to head up north and I don’t want to camp one night and turn around and come back before the snow on Sunday. โ›„ It might not snow until later Sunday but there is still a lot of uncertainty about the storm but it might be a big one.

Feeling pretty good this morning, although I had a bit of an upset stomach 😩 after taking the doxycline and then about twenty minutes later, some strong coffee โ˜• that was a bit of reheat from yesterday. But most of sting is out of my arm 🙋 and I have been feel less achy. 🎯Still have the bullseye but it’s faded away. Modem medicine is amazing with Lyme if you catch it early.🐞

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees or was that 2017? I am not sure, I may need to update my NOAA records. The record high of 66 was set in 2005. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1945.โ„

I am not sure how much sun โ˜€ we are actually going to have today. I just have a feeling that the clouds โ˜ will stick around longer than the government says it will. I’m sure they want sun so there is more happy consumers shopping so they make tax revenue and landfill tipping fees except for those rednecks that burn it. 🔥 I Albany does well with all the asbestos contaminated debris and industrial waste it takes at its landfill. Recycling โ™ป is often being found out to be a scam like so many of the renewable energy schemes, especially when we are gluttons addicted to energy and technology. โšกMaking less garbage and using less energy is better than any greenies crap that you can get from Ellon Musk. 💩 The greenies who are hollier than holy have their heads planted in the ground. 🌲

If it gets nice out I plan to walk out to Five Rivers 🐸. Then down to the library maybe to launch the freshened up version of the blog. It’s not a totally new look but it’s a needed refresh that should load faster and look a little bit nicer while remaining the conservative styling that I like. โœ’There is a lot of cool things you can do with CSS 3, which nowadays is well supported by all modern browsers. The new design is a child theme of blankslate theme but if that is not supported in the future, I can easily port it to simple theme as I wrote all the styling rules myself.

I hadn’t just been up north last weekend I’m sure I’d be going up north and hot tenting. โ›บ But I don’t like driving in the snow or getting stuck going back to camp. And it’s going to really cold tomorrow with temperatures only in the 20s with the mercury in the single digits – and with that even the hot tent would be chilly.

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 33 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 19 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 21st. Maximum wind chill around 11 at 6am; Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Probably below zero wind chill up north. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 34 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 20th. Christmas is coming unless you don’t celebrate as I don’t. 🎄 Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1933. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, snow, mainly after 1pm. High near 31. โ›„ Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. It’s going to be in the 20s in the Adirondacks Sunday so even if I got an early start I risk driving home again in the snow which would duck. 🐥 Typical average high for the weekend is 42 degrees. It’s stupid we are getting snow this early but who knows how long it will last in Trump’s America.

As previously noted, next Friday is Saint Nicholas Day 🎅 when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Gray morning

November 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 16 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Snow is largely gone after the sun and breeze today. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Without the wind it’s been a pretty mild evening, ๐Ÿšถ I have a feel that it wasn’t that cold on my evening walk. Did smell like barnyard (manure and hay) when I walked past the Sunset Farm, they must have been hauling out the deep-pack earlier in the day, getting it on the fields, before things freeze up. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t mind the smell much, I like cows and country living. And without farms no milk or beef, and that would make me unhappy. I thought about going down to the library to get on the internet but after riding the bike ๐Ÿšฒ it was getting late so I just went down to the library for a while. The walk was pleasant. Catching up on YouTube for a bit now as I lay in bed.

I screwed up at the end of the day at work, lost track of time โŒš and almost missed the express bus home ๐Ÿก. I just got working on a spreadsheet ๐Ÿ“Šand had no idea 5 pm came and went. Only a few minutes after hours but I had to run to catch the express bus ๐Ÿš.

Still have a bit of a cough but I’m feeling pretty good and haven’t had any headaches or symptoms ๐Ÿค’ and my energy levels have been high. Been riding the exercise bike and did my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Had more fish ๐Ÿ  and green beans for dinner with apple ๐Ÿ juice.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 14 degrees at 11pm. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Maximum wind chill around 16 at 9pm; Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 93% illuminated. The moon will set at 8:40 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night. The Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 4 weeks. The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. South wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

I found the Twitter bug ๐Ÿ› in my blog code, so the Twitter feed is back on. Twitter isnt nearly as obnoxious with the API breaks, actually the latest issue had to do with a break in the WordPress API and how it interacts with my plug in ๐Ÿ”Œ. Really only required a handful of code lines changed.

I find Twitter isn’t as contentious of a place as Facebook but then again I’m rarely on the site myself – I just syndicate my blog there. Still have issues with future ๐Ÿ”ฎ posts showing too early but the issue had proven had to track down in the code.

I do go on Facebook a lot but I don’t post much of my blog content on there. I don’t like the lack of control over content and placement on that site. ๐Ÿ“ท Photos and maps posted to the blog remain my own

In four weeks on December 11 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 13 minutes and 5 seconds earlier then tonight. Along the Rail Trail

October 7, 2019 Night

Good evening! Nice evening laying back in the hammock. A barn owl is hooting in the distance, and I hear from crickets. The moon is obscured by the clouds but it’s still not super dark in the woods. Rain has been gone since midday ๐Ÿ•› and now the woods is fairly dry with a dropping dew point. There is a group of bow hunters ๐Ÿ™‡ a quarter mile down the road – they’re the group with the big jacked up 3/4 ton truck with the pick up camper. Far enough way that the only way I know there down there is occasionally a I hear their coon dog ๐Ÿถ howling or an occasional hoot or holler from their camp – that an I drove past their camp earlier. Coyotes are loud tonight.

Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 pm.

Today as expected was kind of a damp and somewhat rainy day โ˜” although the rain ended much earlier than in Albany but the first sign of any real clearing was not until around sunset. I sat out and read outside for a while but started to feel cold and damp and decided to hot tent with the book. ๐Ÿ“– I got through my second book of vacation – as I noted earlier – Andrew Revkins book on Weather. Nice picture book, sometimes adults like books with lots of graphics. Second book I’ve read on vacation. ๐Ÿ“š Very warm at times in the tent – that heater kicks out a lot of heat and with temperatures in the mid 50s I kept having to turn it off.

I drove over to Jakes Rocks for a while this afternoon to top off the batteries but ended up disconnecting the accessory batteries from the alternator when I started smelling ozone. ๐Ÿ”‹ I don’t want to accidentally fry the alternator while I’m on vacation or even just burn up a wire or a fuse. It’s fine – after today the sun will be shining and I’ll rely entirely on the solar for the accessory loads as the sun will out. โ˜€

Walking around Jakes Rocks was nice although it was rather cloudy and dark โ˜. But other than that a fine afternoon. I’ll admit today was a quiet day but my expectations were pretty low.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 42 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 80% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:38 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Saturday night with mostly clear skies. The sun will rise at 7:19 am with the first light at 6:51 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 12 hours and 32 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 10th. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

I’ve decided to stay at this campsite one more day. โ›บ I just don’t feel like taking down camp with a week’s worth of gear and a tent to put away that is still a bit damp. Going to be a nice day tomorrow, so I definitely want to go hiking and park the truck somewhere to fully charge the accessory batteries. I might go to Titusville as I didn’t visit the museum last time I was there in 2012 or might just go for a walk along the reservoir, parking down at the swimming beach and maybe hiking up Rim Rock. ๐Ÿšถ

Wednesday who knows. ๐Ÿ’ญ West Virginia is still a possibility. The US 219 isn’t that far away and if I get up well before dawn and leave by eight I can probably do both Mount Davis State Park and Hoye Crest in Maryland before setting up camping in Cannan Heights. It looks as of the last time I checked the burn ban is still on but I don’t have to have a campfire. I always have the lights and the heater. And good music to listen to. I would probably stay until Sunday there and then come back through Pennsylvania and stay at the County Bridge Campground on Sunday into Columbus Day. Going to be mild and sunny the rest of the week.

Alternatively, I could drive up through Allegany State Park and camp, hike and hunt squirrel in Cattaraugus County or fish and hike in the Zoar Valley. ๐Ÿ  I’ve always wanted to check out the Eternal Flame Falls in Orchard Park – I read about it a lot now that I work with several Buffalo clients thee days. โ›ฒ Maybe the leaves are better up north in New York? ๐Ÿ‚

I could also move to somewhere farther south in the National Forest, check out Nebraska Bridge and that wildlife refuge down that way. Saturday or Sunday visit the Elk center and do the Elk Scenic Drive๐Ÿฏ along with visiting Hyner View Park which might have good color by then. I would also overnight at the County Bridge campground. Or honestly, I could stay at the same site all week. At any rate, wherever I camp that final night, I don’t want to be more than four driving ๐Ÿš˜ hours away from Albany so I can get back relatively early and have time to stop for lunch, visit some parks, take back roads and get back early enough to unpack.๐Ÿ’ผ It was too long of a drive for my sanity all the way out to Allegheny National Forest on the way it here.๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

The damn camp lantern I bought mantles for remains real smokey with yellow flames and tons of soot ๐Ÿฎ. Not sure what the issue is. I was thinking that that the generator tube is clogged with dirt but the filter on it seems fine as does the gas pressure. I checked that I installed the proper mantles. Yeap. Everything seems fine but the inside of the lantern is filled with oily soot, the glass keeps on getting sooty and the top is dripping with soot. Fortunately I have plenty of electricity power off the truck, the lantern is just a backup in case of undervoltage and for extra light. Wouldn’t want to have it alone.

In four weeks on November 4 the sun will be setting at 5:07 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 41 minutes and 7 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 34 degrees. The record high of 76 degrees was set back in 1994.

I do really like that green Don’t Tread On Me – Live Free or Die shirt ๐Ÿ‘š I bought online. I would want to get caught dead wearing it in Albany but it’s fun here in the wilderness. I’m no fan of Donald Trump – he’s a racist moron with generally bad ideas ๐Ÿ‘บbut I do think government should be downsized and stay out of people’s business. That’s why I’m eventually thinking of moving to a state like Missouri when I own my off grid property with solar on the roof, composting for the toilet and a burn pit out back for the trash. An an AR-15 because they sound like a lot of fun to shoot.

Looking ahead, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 weeks, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 8 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 9 weeks and Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 11 weeks.
