February 23, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Freezing rain and Ice pellets and 27 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. ๐ŸŒจ Kind of a mix of slop. There is a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I decided to skip my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in favor of an earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown and walking the concourse. It’s not expected to last all day but maybe more rain later. โ˜” I will try to do as many steps inside as possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Today will be freezing rain and sleet likely before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain, freezing rain, and sleet between 1pm and 2pm, then a slight chance of rain and sleet after 2pm. Cloudy โ˜” , with a high of 34 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 8th. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0. 1 of an inch possible. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2017. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1935.โ„

I brought the DVD ๐Ÿ“€ into work that I got from the NYS BOE with the county voter file, ๐Ÿ“‚ and the work computer couldn’t read it. I tried pulling the second hard drive on my laptop and putting the DVD drive in it but that didn’t work with either. I’m frustrated as I had great hope to use that data to build turn out models and help local candidates get the voters out they need to succeed using R Studio and machine learning.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:59 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (258ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:05 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, 235,364 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:39 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 10pm, then gradually ending. ๐ŸŒง Low of 31 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. South wind 5 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1894.

My thought is that if I walk ๐Ÿšถ early this evening and at lunch I’ll get my steps in but I’m concerned. I’ve been on a roll ๐Ÿฅ lately and I don’t want to break it.

Cloudy and cold for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

Now seems like a good time for a cold PBR …

Time for a Cold One

February 9, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜๏ธ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of chilly this evening with the wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I’m out walking because that’s what I do in the evening. One of my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ is a bit irritated and I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด as I didn’t sleep well last night as I was a bit bothered by the news of Ward Stone’s passing. The high cost of politics. I think it’s better to focus on making money ๐Ÿ’ต and looking the other way as your community is going to shit.

Tonight will rain likely before 10pm, then a chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Somebody brought in doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ to work today and I walked right on by. Sugar is ducking poison โ˜  I told myself and walked on by. I don’t need the free food, I’m not starving. Having that bowl of oranges, apples and bananas in my office really helps. ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒ I eat a couple throughout the day whenever I’m hungry and I have a lot more energy. And if turns out it’s actually cheaper than eating bigger meals. ๐Ÿด Pasta, frozen chicken, sauce seems cheap – if you buy in bulk but it’s not if you end up eating a ton of it, ignoring the health impacts. But if you’re eating fruits and vegetables all day long ๐Ÿฅฆ you feel far less hungry. ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:21 pm. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 25. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:32 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 15 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:42 am with sun in the east-southeast (117ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over last night.

Today I found they are extending the 519 bus to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿš Kind of happy ๐Ÿ˜Š about being able to catch the express in front of my apartment as it makes for an easier commute on session days or bad weather when I don’t want to necessarily walk down to the express.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 10am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 25 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

Saturday I’m thinking of sanding and painting that rust spot on my passenger door of my truck. Figure arrest the rust the best I can while I still can. ๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ And maybe do an early morning walk ๐Ÿšถ down to Norman’s Kills Falls.

In four weeks on March 9 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2016.

Snowmobile Trail Climbs Henry Hill

February 3, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s a Frigid Friday! Mostly because that’s all the radio news wants to talk about. Dress in layers, avoid exposed skin and you’ll be fine. Mostly sunny and 10 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Breezy, ๏ธ20 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 32 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is -9. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Bye, bye America Pie. ๐Ÿฅง Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died? ๐ŸŽถ That was 64 years ago today, which means there are fewer and fewer people can remember that day. But it’s still a good song by Don McLean. It’s a song that one can sing along with and it opened up the then new Empire State Plaza during the bicentennial. It’s amazing to think America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ turns 250 in 2026.

Okay, it’s winter. โ„ But I left the heat turned up so it was plenty warm inside. Too warm for my tastes but along with leaving the cabinets open I wanted to prevent the pipes from freezing. Come Sunday I’ll back the heat down to 48 degrees. I have gas heat so it’s not really expensive but I’ve grown to like the cold. Skipped my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in favor of taking the time earlier express bus ๐Ÿš and walking laps in the Concourse. I’m going to try to get as many steps as possible inside the Concourse today.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a temperature fallivng to around 3 by 5pm. โ˜€ Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.โ„

Yesterday I did 17,000 steps as I visited a friend at the hospital ๐Ÿฅ midday. It’s different now with the COVID, you get screened before entering and are given a paper muzzle. I’ve never worn a paper muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท only a cloth one though I stuck it under my cloth one.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-40ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:30 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:11 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:40 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (77ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, 252,110 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:15 pm.

At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 3 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be -20. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 25 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 44mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

What can I say, it’s going to brutally cold โ„ this evening. I might actually take up the express bus ๐Ÿš drivers option to get dropped off closer to home. And I might not do the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ though I am thinking about walking ๐Ÿ“š down to the library for a while. That said, so much of it is hype because people aren’t used to the cold. It would be a warm day in Wisconsin.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of -10 degrees at 4am. 25 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -32 at 1am; Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1978.

I checked the voltage and my truck starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ is happy with the cold. โ˜บ The solar panel is dumping the excess voltage into the starting battery. When it’s very cold out, it’s almost always sunny out and the trickle charge keeps things floating along at a nice voltage โšก.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 13 degrees at 3pm. 21 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -31 at 6am; Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1991. 15.5 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

I was planning on going to John’s house for Saturday and maybe a very frigid hike in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒbut plans change. I might stay home and brave a hike out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ With the full face mask, gloves ๐Ÿงค and maybe thermal underwear I should be good. Or so I tell myself.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. โ˜€ South wind 13 to 16 mph. The cold will have broken but it will be still cold with the wind. Still I plan to wash Big Red ๐Ÿ›ป in the evening after seeing the folks. Turning the heat way back down though. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 25 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

Skiing in God's Country

January 26, 2023 Night

Good evening! Clouds โ˜๏ธ and 29 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 22 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Zero chance of seeing that metroid that they are talking about unless it hits the earth with a big bang. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Probably didn’t need to go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ tonight but extra steps are good and I like walking. Helps pass the time and it’s healthy.

The big forty is what’s on my mind tonight. ๐ŸŽ‚ I mean I know it’s just a number and most people eventually hit it but it’s not something you ever give much thought about when you are young. The day will come and go like all do, and what matters is what you make of it as one step towards the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ but it’s such a big number. Been doing a lot of reading about the meaning of turning forty and I guess the best thing about being in your forties is you don’t give a rats ass what others think about you not that I ever really did.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1994.

I went to the library for the first time in several weeks ๐Ÿ“š mostly to use the internet, I didn’t get any books out. The library since the pandemic seems so much more crowded than the past. With my unlimited phone plan I mostly just use my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ but for coding purposes and data intensive things it’s best to go to the library. Plus cell service lately has been unreliable locally since the storm yesterday.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 32% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, some 234,343 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ Can’t see it through the clouds. At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by July 23rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ

The moon will set in the west (276ยฐ) at 10:56 pm. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:46 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:16 am in the east-southeast (115ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 12 seconds. Sunrise is 51 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:59 am with sun in the east-southeast (123ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over last night.

I filled up the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ container and loaded up the propane tank to be filled after I go to the dentist and then I plan to head up to the woods to ski ๐ŸŽฟ and camp โ›บ on my final day of being in my thirties. I just sleep better and are happier in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ But first the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Also may need more coffee โ˜• before I run out.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers after noon, mixing with rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

Franklin Roosevelt's Car

January 19, 2023 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to warm up as the night progresses.

The best way to describe the weather this evening is sloppy ๐ŸŒง๏ธ with a lot of slush around. Just wet not icy locally and it’s only going to warm up as the night progresses. Wasn’t raining hard, so I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ in my waterproof boots. ๐Ÿ‘ข

It was a pretty ordinary day, ๐Ÿข fairly busy as expected and sloppy in the evening but I did my walk. I don’t have much to complain about. Tomorrow is Friday. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Tonight will rain and snow before 4am, then a slight chance of snow between 4am and 5am, then a chance of rain and snow after 5am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 33 degrees at 8pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Saves on the heat. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

I think tomorrow will be wet and sloppy โ˜” though things could freeze up but I have my doubts. I’ll try to do my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in the morning. I’m not convinced that there will be a lot of snow come the weekend locally. I’m more concerned about Sunday and visiting the folks but maybe it will be okay earlier in the day.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 4% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 4. Frozen Lake

January 6, 2023 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 7 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It’s a nice evening ๐ŸŒƒ for me evening walk after a rainy start to the day. I’m wearing my old boots ๐Ÿ‘ข as my new ones are bothering my ankle in part because they’re not broke in. I got the higher ankle boots to protect my ankles but they’ve not worked out good. I’m hopeful though. I will wear them to work on non session days but keep my old boots for walking around town until they are fully broke in.

Christmas Party ๐ŸŽ‰ at work was good, but odd with the holidays come and gone and people busy with session things. The bananas ๐ŸŒand oranges ๐ŸŠI brought went quick but I brought much too much milk ๐Ÿฅ›. I kept the extra milk in the fridge and brought it home and froze it. I’ll thaw it when I run out of milk. It’s odd as the last holiday party was pre COVID but I still wore my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท during most of the party. I was thinking with all that spare milk I need hogs. ๐Ÿฝ Maybe some day. But first my investments have to grow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 33 degrees at 3am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. At 8 PM, the moon was in the east (86ยฐ) at an altitude of 37ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,906 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by July 16th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Wolf ๐Ÿบ Moon is on Sunday, January 22. The darkest hour is at 12:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 7 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 41 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Light north wind becoming northwest 8 to 13 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

I decided against turning the heat on tonight โ™จ as it’s not going to be super cold but I can see the writing on the wall – I’ll need at least a little heat come tomorrow. Still January. The warm weather pattern is breaking down thought still going to be relatively warm by historical standards. I just can’t wait until it’s warm enough to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ฒ for the summer season and it’s easier sleep. ๐Ÿ› That said, I do better going to bed before nine most days.

In four weeks on February 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) at 5:12 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 33 minutes and 50 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had snow showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 30 and 24 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 33 and 15 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 2016.

I was looking at the January 6th memes on Facebook ๐Ÿคœ thinking what a tragedy the whole thing was all together. So many lives and families ruined for the sake of stupid politics. People who chose a life in politics often loose their lives and their freedom in America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. We like to pretend that’s not true but I would argue that those who die for their country without pay or benefits are the true American heros. While I think the whole rigged election thing was sham – Biden won fairly under the various state and federal rules in effect in 2020 – you got to respect anyone who raises their voice based on their convictions. But I would argue personal and family well being is far more important than the country as a whole. Making money ๐Ÿ’ต to put food on the table ๐Ÿฆƒ is more important than any ideological belief you may have.

Addison County Vermont

January 2, 2023 Morning

Good morning! It’s the first Monday of the New Year. As New Years Day occurred on a Sunday, this would be a holiday. It’s good because it’s a cloudy and I’m bad at getting off my ass, and I did not get out walking at 6:45 AM when it was still pitch black out. But later on it will clear out and we will have weather that will be resembling the first day of spring, until it no longer feels like that later in the week. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ But even after that, it won’t feel like January for a while until eventually it does. I figure it will feel like a deep frozen hell by the time my 40th birthday rolls around, and I’ll once again be trying to stay warm under the heated blanket.

Mostly cloudy and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. One week to Static Electric day, but with warm, damp conditions, I don’t expect much of a need for a static discharge strip around your arm anytime soon. ๐Ÿคฏ I am not prepared to be shocked anytime soon unless I touch a 120 volt line in all the rain we are expected to get mid-week. At least shit won’t dry out, so if I head out for the King’s weekend and have a big ass fire, ๐Ÿ”ฅ to make up for staying home over New Years Eve like a lame and poor duck, I won’t have to worry about burning down the woods.

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ at Elm Ave Park and then I will take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and then do a quick hike up Bennett Hill and then out to the folks house ๐Ÿก for New Years Fondue ๐Ÿซ• the wonderful tradition invented by dairymen who raise those Big Brown Swiss ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ„ to sell more cheese ๐Ÿง€ in the dairy boom of the 1970s while input prices were rising and Americans wanted cheaper food during an era of inflation. But dipping bread and salty cocktail frank’s in melted dairy fat and wine is so good. I haven’t showered since Friday morning before work so I’m do for a good scrub.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. I believe that is called spring, which appears for now to be coming early, but I don’t think we can stick a fork in winter yet. โ›„ But who knows about skiing on Martin Luther’s birthday weekend. Always so cold, but maybe not this year. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mist in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1890. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Today got to boil my muzzles ๐Ÿ˜ท and then hang them to dry. I find boiling them with soapy water ๐Ÿ’ฆ helps to get them clean and tightens up the fabric to keep the COVID away. I got the latest and greatest COVID boosters and flu shots but I hate doctors ๐Ÿฅ and have zero interest in getting sick. Now if they could only bring back work from home ๐Ÿก though I’m not sure I’d want to pay for the extra heat and electricity in these inflationary times.

They’re back in town this week ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ so I also have to iron my shirt and polish my swanky dress shoes and black steel toe boots. I wear the black boots back and forth to work through the snow, rain and muck and to prolong the life of my increasingly worn out dress shoes which I probably will need to replace later in the year. I mostly keep them for wearing in office at my desk for comfort and those odd times I get summoned over the Capitol or go over there to snag some soggy salmon or chicken dipped in that werid sauce rich people like so I save my packed dinner for a later date. But that doesn’t happen much these now that I’m Deputy in Research, it’s mostly behind a computer reading ๐Ÿ“– backgrounds and running stats. ๐Ÿ”ข But the security guards ๐Ÿ’‚ say I look swanky and less like a hillbilly when I wear my blazer and tie.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. See I know a little trigonometry, mainly because I did some shadow analysis of that movie theater for Save the Pine Bush. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:48 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ Keep that in mind photographers, especially today with it clearing out. The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east (97ยฐ) at an altitude of 39ยฐ from the horizon, 244,259 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:41 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, an increase of 52 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 4am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 34 degrees at 12am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 7th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1970.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Well, by January standards, as the winter thaw continues. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 39. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. But we know what is next, it will come, and it will be ducking cold. Yet, for now I’m enjoying the heat being off, and still comfortable in a t-shirt inside, and a vest outside. You can probably guess what t-shirt that is. That said, I probably should buy one of those Palpation Nation shirts with the guy AI-ing a cow on it, so I can be cool like the interwebs, and actually wear that one to work on a casual summer day. But as I’ve been telling myself for two years now, I don’t buy shit like that even if I probably would wear it a lot.

As previously noted, next Monday is Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ when the sun will be setting at 4:41 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, freezing rain showers and temperatures between 36 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2008.
