June 21, 2019 Night

Good evening! Happy First Night of Summer from the wilderness with a billion stars โœจ above. Partly clear and 56 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Even after building a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, putting on my blaze orange hoodie and jeans it’s still pretty cool this evening.

It’s been a rough week at work but at least I had today after 7:30 AM off from work so I could take a nap at home then pack my stuff and head up to the Adirondacks. โ›บ I ended up deciding based on the forecast to visit the Speculator area and get my favorite campsite with brilliant views of the night sky, โœจ especially with the modest temperatures, low humidity and clear skies expected over the weekend. Actually most of the work week looks good and I’ll be returning most days to the nine to five schedule rather than nine am to seven am schedule I worked yesterday. I got up here safely but my sleep rhythms are still screwed up, it’s almost midnight but I’m quite awake and lots of sun will be streaming into my truck at four am tomorrow. ๐ŸŒ„ That said it’s nice to be back in the wilderness, it’s been a month now. June just has proven to be a very busy month for me plus I ended up making some big upgrades to my camp electric setup – which seems to work perfectly.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1940. Should be great weather for sleeping.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 70% illuminated. The moon will set at 10:10 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with a chance of t-storms then chance of showers. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:40 am, which is 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, an increase of 3 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 7am. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1954.

I was thinking about hiking down to the Miami River and doing some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but looking at the map it’s a bit more of a walk than expected at two miles. I could drive. Or maybe I could hike Pillsbury Mountain – been eight years since I climbed that or better yet do something new and hike back to Pillsbury Lake in the West Canada Lake Wilderness. ๐Ÿšถ It’s good to explore new places, especially if I want this to be a summer to remember.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees. Planning to do some kayaking and fishing on Sunday down in Speculator.

In four weeks on July 19 the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 9 minutes and 2 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1904.

Looking ahead, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 2 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 2 months, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 10 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 3 months.

June 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. Not a whole lot of blue sky expected over the next few days for sure. Forget about seeing the Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon tonight. At least it’s not raining for now.

Sitting out back padding myself on the back for completing my wiring project successfully on the truck. ๐Ÿ”Œ Everything seems to be working well, I’ve been checking the amp meter all day to see how much power I’ve been getting, which admittedly after it clouded up and the sun went down was not much. โ˜ It will be interesting to see tomorrow on a rainy day, especially with the batteries down a bit from sitting out back this evening next to the fan. It’s cool how the meter records total watt and eventually kilowatt hours produced by the panel. At 15 watt hours now input from the panel but the batteries were full so it was floating the batteries and it was clouding up when I first set it up.

It’s definitely been a learning experience, it’s fun to go small and scale things up. That said I have probably as much power as I can hook up with the truck ๐Ÿ’ก but I’m learning a lot when I eventually get a home and live off grid in the country. ๐Ÿฎ Energy โšก is a complicated topic, electricity and electronics is a remarkably fascinating topic – I was for a while when it started to rain sitting inside watching a video on constant current power supplies that are used to efficiently drive many LEDs today. Similar to inverter driven, high frequency 3 phase alternating current motors there is a lot to be gained in efficiency by modern electronics driving equipment to produce more output with less input. People think I’m not about high voltage DC being the future but I there are so many advantages to it once the problems are overcome – like fully reliable bucking and boosting of high current DC.

But regardless I had a great evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and did sit out back for a while and read ๐Ÿ“– this afternoon, well until it started to rain for a bit. I also went down to the library and wasted time on the internet that probably could have been better set getting books out for summer reading. ๐Ÿ“š It’s definitely nice out back by the fan, enjoying some leftover wine ๐Ÿท I got from work, especially now that more fireflies are out.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 1am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 62 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 4am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1961.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 99% illuminated. Pretty much full. The moon will set at 4:50 am. The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon ๐ŸŒ• will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 15th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 2pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1967.

I’m going to drive over to John Wolcott’s house before shopping tomorrow ๐Ÿ› and continue to work on his history project. Then I’ll go out to my parents house for Father’s Day and Sunday dinner. I’ll head home after that and prepare for a busy week at work. ๐Ÿ’ผ I was told lots of late nights at work next week but I’ll take the bus and get my truck if I think I’ll be there after 11:30 and will get released before 6 am. Or I’ll just sleep at my desk. Done that a few times before. Regardless, summer will be here next weekend and I’ll either go out to Schoharie or the Adirondacks assuming not a complete wash out. โ›บ

In four weeks on July 13 the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 2 minutes and 37 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1894.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 1 week, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 4 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is a month away, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 5 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 10 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 14 weeks.

I think it’s time โŒš for bed. ๐Ÿ˜ด Good night. Tomorrow is Sunday.

June 15, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 83 degrees in Delmar, NY. Light breeze from the south west, almost feels a bit hot and humid๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 55 degrees. The morning was beautiful, but it wans’t bound to last. There are already some showers starting to pop up on the radar, and the sky gotten pretty dark. So much for the 78 watts my solar panel was putting out on the truck earlier this morning, until things got put into float mode.

So the big project for day was getting the second accessory battery hooked up to the low-voltage disconnect from the bed. Previously, it was hooked into the bus bar that runs all of the accessories in bed of the truck, but I wanted to make sure I had undervoltage protection on the battery, especially because the other accessory battery already had that and unbalanced batteries like that could be dangerous or at least bad for the life of the batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹ I also cleaned up the wiring in the cab of my truck for accessories, including adding an always on USB outlet for charging things like my USB battery bank, or even my laptop.

It’s now wired for 30 amp, so I have plenty of power for even charging the laptop there, and it’s conveniently located under the driver seat, and doesn’t shut off when the truck is off. I had to move some of the components around — name swap the places of the low voltage disconnect and the solar charger to make the wiring fit, a had to go to Advance Auto to buy a few butt connectors, shrink wrap, romex cable protectors, and then to the Hardware store to get a drill. Sure, there goes another 20 bucks, but I was good this weekend, I stayed in town, although this morning, I kind of wish I had headed out of town because it was so nice — but it’s become cloudy now and rain, so I’m not missing much.๐ŸŒ„

That said, I think the feature I like best in that voltage/amperage/power meter I got last autumn but didn’t wire up until now. I actually got two — only are using one right now though. It’s pretty cool how it not only shows you the voltage but also the amperage, and does the math for the wattage and total power produced (in watt hours or kilowatt hours) โž•โž–โž—. Works with a 50 amp shunt, which I got as a package from China last October on AliExpress. I’m a big fan of AliExpress for small electronic stuff like that — if you can wait, you can save a lot of money ordering direct from the factory in China — and umm, not pay sales tax. I doubt the People’s Republic of China will tell the People’s Democrat of New York about the $10 gadget I bought without tax.ย  Why be sneaky when your going to post it on the Internet?

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 11pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 63 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 5am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1961.

The sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 25 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 2pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1967.

I decided against getting a USB flashlight. I have plenty of flashlights already. I might instead get a battery charger like this oneย and pick up some rechargable nickle metal halide batteries at Walmart. I think it’s pretty cool that those smart chargers not only can do Ni-MH or the newer 18650 LiOn batteries. But then again. it’s not exactly rocket science, just a microprocessor and transistor with PWM that cuts or reduces output as the battery gets close to full charge.

On this day in 1967, The People’s Republic of China tests its first hydrogen bomb. It would be one of the world’s few powers with access to the devestatingly powerful hydrogen bombs.๐Ÿ’ฃ Now everybody except Trump likes inexpensive things you can get on AliExpress in like four weeks, which are fun for the many projects you can build.๐Ÿ“Ÿ

As previously noted, next Saturday is Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1954.

June 11, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Green Light Tuesday. ๐Ÿšฆ Hopefully the traffic is moving well for you this morning. Looking out while I was making breakfast ๐Ÿณ it looked like not a lot of people were getting a green light on Elm Avenue. I made eggs with hot dogs, broccoli and cheese for breakfast. Two weeks to Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ. I really should continue to research the candidates so I know which levers to pull down at the library, my new polling place. I guess the all day primaries don’t start until next year? Or so I was reading on that paper trash I got from a candidate in the mail a few weeks ago. I don’t know, I’m just an ignorant hick when it comes to such topics.

The rain has stopped but it’s still cloudy and 61 degrees in Bethlehem, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. Things will improve throughout the day, there already is some hints of blue to west. The skies will clear around 11 am. Should be nice later on for the picnic.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 74 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Breezy, with a northwest wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 32 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1972.

On this day in 1963, Buddhist monk Thรญch Quแบฃng ฤแปฉc burns himself with gasoline ๐Ÿ”ฅ in a busy Saigon intersection to protest the lack of religious freedom in South Vietnam. ๐ŸŒ The self-immolation would be captured on film and would go around the world. On the same day, John F. Kennedy addresses Americans from the Oval Office proposing a Civil Rights Act that propsed equal access to public facilities, end segregation in education and guarantee federal protection for voting rights. Lyndon Johnson would git r dun a year later.

While this is an important day in history, ๐Ÿ˜Ž I’m just counting down the days until summer. Nine days. I doubt I’ll get out of town this weekend due to weather and work, but God willing next week. If it’s nice and hot, Potholers and Lily Lake from Stewart Landing otherwise Schoharie County and Mine Kill pool. ๐ŸŠ Summer is on my mind, and hopefully we will at least be seeing some sun soon. ๐ŸŒป

It seems like the sink is working fine in the bathroom. ๐Ÿ›€ Drain cleaner got it working well. I will make sure to run the water a little extra when I’m shaving to make sure I”m not clogging things up with shaving — and make sure to use cleaner when things start slowing up right away. It’s kind of my fault for not addressing the problem right away, but things are good now.

The USB battery bank I got is fully charged, although it took all night ๐Ÿ”‹ and pushed my USB charger hard — at times it showed it was drawing upwards of 2 amp. Hopefully this means it will have lots of capacity. Except in really hot or cold weather, I’ll probably leave it in my truck, hooked up to the charger at all times, so it’s ready for camping. When it’s fully charged, it doesn’t draw much power at all.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny skies with a few rain showers in the afternoon and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1898.

Picnic Table and Flag

June 10, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. For a while it was really pouring this evening. Seems like we will get a good inch or two out of this storm. I’m sure the farmers will love that. ๐Ÿšœ The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

I picked up Big Red and he has had his oil changed and tires rotated. ๐Ÿš˜ It needed to be done, not a big deal, fairly convient with the buses downtown. Did not get soaked walking up Wolf Road as the heaviest rain held off until I got home. Made some pasta for dinner, been feeling a bit congested with a migraine again this evening. I think I’m allergic to Mondays. ๐Ÿ˜งI probably should have ridden the exercise bike or worked on other projects but I didn’t feel that great.

Tonight will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Steady temperature around 66. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1980.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 70% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:10 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Sunday night with a partly cloudy then chance of showers late. The sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 9 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely before 11am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 26th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Northwest wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Should be pleasant day by afternoon but blustery. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Tomorrow is the work picnic ๐Ÿ” assuming I’m not stuck in the office until late. ๐Ÿข It might be a nice night for the picnic but I do expect a long day tomorrow with Green Light ๐Ÿšฆ expected to pass the assembly tomorrow. Free hot dogs and beer always are good. I’ll walk back and catch the 13 to the 18 at Lark and go home rather than driving. ๐Ÿš™ I discovered when my parents were in the hospital that usually the 18 and 13 are scheduled for easy transfers on Lark all day long. Sucks to have to back downtown but that’s the best way to transfer.

Cool but fairly sunny for the last weekend of Spring 2019.โ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 55 at 4pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

By the following weekend, school ๐Ÿšธ will be done for the kiddies, and most of the pools and beaches will be open for swimming ๐ŸŠ. Getting out of town for this weekend doesn’t seem promising but there are many things that I can do around town including fishing and kayaking. ๐ŸŽฃ It’s the third Saturday of June. I expect late nights on Thursday and maybe Saturday so I don’t know how I’d fine time to get out of town this weekend. But it’s good to save money ๐Ÿ’ต as bills have proven tighter this month than expected.

I got the battery pack ๐Ÿ”‹ that I had mom order for me on Amazon. It’s charging now. This week I’m going to wire an always on socket inside my truck specifically for keeping that charged along with hooking up the shunt and meter to the solar panel so I can monitor how much electricity is actually getting produced. I also want to hook up that other wire for the second accessory battery so it’s protected by the low voltage disconnected โšก which is important while camping or when we have many cloudy days or an equipment malfunction.

In four weeks on July 8 the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 2 minutes and 15 seconds later then tonight. The long Independence Day Weekend will be history by then but it will be followed by my vacation two weeks later. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1936.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 3 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 9 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 12 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 17 weeks.

 East Canada Creek

June 10, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. I expect a busy week this week and next. Two weeks to the Latest Sunset of the Year, which is a few days after the first day of summer ๐ŸŒ†. Partly cloudy and 65 degrees in Albany, NY. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees.

Big Red is at the shop getting his oil changed and tires rotated. ๐Ÿ›ขI drive so few miles, especially over the past winter, and with that synthetic oil, the last time the oil was changed on Red was either late August or early September. And I still had life left on the oil monitoring system, although I do like to do it a bit early, and honestly that oil been sitting in the truck for like 10 months now, getting heated and abused climbing up and down mountains and on dirty roads. Plus the tires needed to be rotated. I’d like to avoid replacing the tires and doing an alignment until at least next year — 2020.๐Ÿš—

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 6th. I’d rather drive straight home.Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

I am really hoping the showers hold off, ๐ŸŒงbecause I don’t want to be walking up to Wolf Road to pick up my truck in the pouring rain from the oil change. I thought about going there mid-day, but then I would have to catch a bus there, get my truck, park it somewhere, and then catch a bus downtown.

The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 34 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. Probably won’t be sitting out back tonight. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 10pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 62 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 9pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ A tad bit of mugginess tonight with the rain coming? Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1980.

Probably when I get home with my truck, I’ll ride the exercise bike, ๐Ÿšฒ as it will be too wet to go out for my walk. Tomorrow will be a late night at work, followed by the work picnic, so I won’t have much of a chance to walk tomorrow, except maybe down to the bus stop. I’ll probably take the bus or ask a colleague for a ride home, as I hate parking in that tight parking lot, and I might want to have a drink or two, and I don’t drink any alcohol if I plan to drive anymore.๐Ÿบ It’s just a rule, because I seem to have enough trouble with aggressive drivers and everything else going on road.

I am continuing to have some problems with the bathroom sink drain. ๐Ÿšฝ It was moving well then got stuck again today. I put some more drain cleaner in it this morning and it’s moving again. After it drained out, I dumped some extra in it. I might try removing the trap next, if I have more problems. Probably all the damn hair from shaving, and the plumbing has always been a weak spot in my run-down apartment. Hoping I won’t have to call the landlord about that, although he’s pretty good about fixing things.๐Ÿ›

On this day in 1964, United States Senate breaks a 75-day filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, leading to the bill’s passage. After they “broke” the air conditioning on a muggy Washington DC heat wave, and made people sweat out the heat.โœŠ Sometimes you just got to sweat it out for progress to make things move forward.

I really doubt I will get out of town this weekend, but the following weekend, depending on work schedule and weather, I **might**ย  (emphasis on the uncertainty) take a long weekend up to the Potholers/Lily Lake/Little Falls. I ordered more wire (yes, I know), to make the connection between the second accessory battery and the low voltage disconnect, ๐Ÿ”Œ then also hook up the other USB charger and shunt for the panel meter. I swear, that will be the final wiring project for my truck. I’m literally running of places to run wires. But everything should be a lot more stable for camp power.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 76 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Flow in Summer Stream

June 7, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Mostly sunny and 63 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees.

This sure seems like it would have been a good weekend to get out of town but so be it. The trail day tomorrow should be fun as will be the Gas Up. At least I didn’t have to worry about packing or traffic. Just a relaxing trip to work on the bus. ๐Ÿš Maybe next weekend. The long range looks decent for next weekend but maybe not quite as nice for next weekend. Really hard to say at this point.

I expect a real busy week next week but I think I could throw together a weekend trip quite quickly. โ›บ If it’s going to be extremely warm I’m thinking Pisceo-Powley Road and a day trip to Moss Island, otherwise Perkins Clearing and . Black flies should be thinning out by then despite the cool and rainy spring. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I decided against a hair cut today โœ‚on grounds that it wasn’t that long ago that I last cut my hair. ๐Ÿ’ˆ I know it’s only $14 with tip but I don’t like when it’s really short and you can see the spot where it’s thinning out. Plus I didn’t feel like walking down there or catching the local bus to work. But gosh more and more gray is popping up. Less shows up when it’s cut short. I decided instead to just trim a bit around the ears and my goatee at home.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. That’s summer weather but without much humidity. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9am. North wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

The sun will set at 8:30 pm with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 38 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 53 seconds over yesterday.

After work, I’ll probably head back down to the park and read more of that Richard Hofstadter book. ๐Ÿ“™ I just stumbled upon it in my collection and forgot what a good read it was. Then sit out back for a while, assuming that the mosquitoes aren’t too bad. I can’t stay up too late though, as National Trails Day with MHLC out in Coeymans, so I need to get to bed relatively early. In the afternoon, I’m thinking I’ll probably hike Bennett Hill before going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner on well Saturday this month. I also do need to find my work gloves before the event (they’re in the crawl space), and I should be wearing them when I camp so I don’t once again burn my hand.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1951. Sounds like a very pleasant evening.

On this day in 1965, the Supreme Court of the United States hands down its decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, effectively legalizing the use of contraception by married couples.๐Ÿ”— And a few years later Loretta Lynn would sing her song. And the abortion controversy would get underway mostly as a counterpart to the gun control debate.

As previously noted, next Friday is Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. I actually thought about hanging my flag out today but it didn’t happen. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.
