June 7, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Flag Day πΊπΈ. Mostly sunny and 63 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees.
This sure seems like it would have been a good weekend to get out of town but so be it. The trail day tomorrow should be fun as will be the Gas Up. At least I didn’t have to worry about packing or traffic. Just a relaxing trip to work on the bus. π Maybe next weekend. The long range looks decent for next weekend but maybe not quite as nice for next weekend. Really hard to say at this point.
I expect a real busy week next week but I think I could throw together a weekend trip quite quickly. βΊ If it’s going to be extremely warm I’m thinking Pisceo-Powley Road and a day trip to Moss Island, otherwise Perkins Clearing and . Black flies should be thinning out by then despite the cool and rainy spring. π
I decided against a hair cut today βon grounds that it wasn’t that long ago that I last cut my hair. π I know it’s only $14 with tip but I don’t like when it’s really short and you can see the spot where it’s thinning out. Plus I didn’t feel like walking down there or catching the local bus to work. But gosh more and more gray is popping up. Less shows up when it’s cut short. I decided instead to just trim a bit around the ears and my goatee at home.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. That’s summer weather but without much humidity. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9am. North wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.
The sun will set at 8:30 pm with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 38 seconds later than yesterday. π At sunset, look for clear skies π and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 53 seconds over yesterday.
After work, I’ll probably head back down to the park and read more of that Richard Hofstadter book. π I just stumbled upon it in my collection and forgot what a good read it was. Then sit out back for a while, assuming that the mosquitoes aren’t too bad. I can’t stay up too late though, as National Trails Day with MHLC out in Coeymans, so I need to get to bed relatively early. In the afternoon, I’m thinking I’ll probably hike Bennett Hill before going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner on well Saturday this month. I also do need to find my work gloves before the event (they’re in the crawl space), and I should be wearing them when I camp so I don’t once again burn my hand.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1951. Sounds like a very pleasant evening.
On this day in 1965, the Supreme Court of the United States hands down its decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, effectively legalizing the use of contraception by married couples.π And a few years later Loretta Lynn would sing her song. And the abortion controversy would get underway mostly as a counterpart to the gun control debate.
As previously noted, next Friday is Flag Day πΊπΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. I actually thought about hanging my flag out today but it didn’t happen. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.
