Good morning! Where did June go? Cloudy and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

I woke up much too early this morning 😴 fearing that I had overslept. After traveling and adjusting the alarm ⏰ times on my clock lately, things were all screwed up and when I first looked at my clock I thought it was a quarter before nine, rather than a quarter before six. πŸŒ… But who would know, it’s such a dark and gray morning.

Not expecting a real nice Tuesday but that’s fine, πŸ’Ό I’m working from home today and I have all the supplies I need so I don’t have to go anywhere today. 🏑 Hoping though later it will be nice enough for my evening walk 🚢.

Today will have a chance of showers before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 77 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 13th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5Β° from the due south horizon (-0.3Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 7 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the south (178Β°) at an altitude of 34Β° from the horizon, 227,672 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 37 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978.

So if I have Friday off I’ll probably spend the day hiking and fishing 🎣 and I’m going to see about possibly going out to my parents house for the postponed Sunday dinner due to the bad weather last weekend. 🍣 It would be nice to sit out back and catch up with them.

I’m thinking of poking around some of the dirt roads at Partridge Run to see if I still hear that occasionally clunking noise in the truck – it’s not particularly noticeable around town and I don’t want to spend money on something that isn’t going to cause problems in the near future. 🚘 I’m not sure if it’s either a new noise or I’ve gotten overly sensitive. I get so paranoid at times.

On this day in 1971, Ohio ratifies the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ❎ reducing the voting age to 18, thereby putting the amendment into effect. Also in 1934, The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler’s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. πŸ”ͺ Fortunately, we only have obnoxious rhetoric to that impact in our country today.

Looking ahead, there are 18 weeks until Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

All day there was a pretty good threat of downpours β˜” but except for one mid day not too much rain. I got everything I needed done for the day – groceries, laundry, library books and updating the blog. 🍏 Work was pretty quiet so I just brought my laptop down to the laundromat and worked there. πŸ‘š I started reading this book about cabin life tonight πŸ“– and caught up on the YouTube videos that I had downloaded.

Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:47 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:21 am in the east-northeast (57Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7am. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

I decided the noise I heard from the truck while disconcerting 🚘 doesn’t warrant immediate attention as I think it’s just the new ball joints complaining at the more extreme steering angles but they’re going to just do that. That’s part of the lifted truck. I’m not noticing any further issues so I don’t think they’re is anything to repair but I’ll talk to the shop that did the lift kit once I’m working downtown again if things get worse. I just don’t want things to break in the wilderness if I can avoid it and likewise I’d rather not spend money fixing a noise that’s going to exist regardless. πŸ”§

I’ve been thinking about my next trip. β›Ί I’m kind of tired of the Adirondacks and seeing that Cherry Ridge and Long Pond State Forest Camping areas are open again that might be my next trip. Maybe go swimming at the Glimmerglass beach? 🏊 Never been to that park in the summer.

I am thinking for summer vacation to do a Western Adirondacks and Tug Hill trip this year, 😎 and maybe spend some time exploring the Saint Lawrence County state forests. I haven’t put in any time yet for summer vacation but maybe I’ll do late July or early August.

 Sun in the Clouds

June 29, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Cloudy and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear Thursday around 1 am. Not going to be a particularly nice week this week.

Noisy this morning with them mowing the grass 🌾 down the way. The noise pollution was something I did not miss when I was up in the Adirondacks. Maybe and two weeks I’ll go back up to the Adirondacks or somewhere else to travel. It looks like if I want to go to Central NY again most of the camping area out that way are open again. β›Ί

Today will have a slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 10am. Some of the storms could produce small hail and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 78 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 2pm. Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.

Today I want to get to the laundromat πŸ‘• and buy groceries. πŸπŸŽπŸ” I also would like to get to the library and upload some of the photos that I took over the past weekend. As I noted last night, I am going to see what my work schedule looks like today and if I will be working downtown anytime soon before deciding what’s next with getting that occasional noise in my truck fixed. I might also want to do some more research. I am probably going to take it to Watkins Spring, but that’s a pain with the buses not running the full schedule and me not working downtown.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6Β° from the due south horizon (-0.2Β° vs. 6/21). The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

On this day in 2006, in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld the U.S. Supreme Court rules that President George W. Bush’s plan to try Guantanamo Bay detainees in military tribunals violates U.S. and international law. I do remember that day pretty well, it was something we discussed in college and I was involved in protesting back in Albany. Fortunately, the days of George W. Bush are long gone, although we can remember the good ol’ days before Trump.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. Sunday, Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees. I am going to probably stay in town this weekend, although who knows I might tent camp at one of the local state forests. I think I probably will have Friday off as a holiday, but it’s not in the system yet. I am going to see how well Big Red is working, and I might change my mind based on how things go and what the final forest looks like.

 Campfire

June 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, damoand 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. Dew point makes it a bit muggy. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

All day the weather has been quite unstable ⚑ so I decided to Stay Home and get unpacked and get caught up on sleep. I was going to go to mom and dad’s house but decided against it when the weather was too dicey for an outdoor picnic. Sunday dinner or sitting around the living room with masks 😷 on doesn’t sound like much fun and is kind of risky to boot. Coronavirus is in hiding right now but you never know if you might have picked it up along the way somewhere, although I doubt I’d had the close personal contact for a length of time necessary to pick it up. Better safe than sorry. That said, I do realize time is limited and I should try to get out there the next time the weather is nice and sit outside and talk before it’s too late. βŒ›

Speaking of procrastination I’ve decided to take a wait and see approach on Big Red. 🚘 The noise I’m hearing only is occasional and I’m not sure I want to take it back to the shop πŸͺ I went to that didn’t know much about the lift kit. I’d rather take it Watkins Spring next but the thing is that it would be a lot more convenient to drop it off once I’m working back downtown again. NYC is in Stage 3 of the reopening and Upstate is Stage 4, so I can’t imagine it’s long before the buses 🚍full restart and I’m working downtown again. 🏒 I don’t think it’s safety critical but I’d rather get it properly adjusted or broken parts replaced before I’m stranded in the remote back country or I chew up other expensive hardware.

I am planning to stay in town for the Fourth of July πŸŽ† just because I just was out camping for ten days and I expect the back country to be crowded with most of the developed campgrounds operating at limited capacity. β›Ί I guess I could tent camp somewhere locally in the back country but for now that’s not on the agenda.

Later in July I’ll probably take my formal vacation. 😎 The one where I’m not writing memos and reports πŸ“ and taking calls all day long. πŸ“ž Where cell service is non essential. This year I’m thinking the Tug Hill Plateau and Western Adirondacks and Saint Lawrence County but nothing is set in stone. I might also take a long weekend up to the Potholers and Piseco-Powley Road but I’ll have to enter from the north end as the Fulton County section of the road is closed.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Cloudy and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Pretty good thunderstorm heading for Delmar now. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear around 6 pm.

So I’m back home 🏑. Got home last night but I was tired 😴 and didn’t post anything on my blog. I did spend a little time fixing a glitch in the mobile version which came about with the scrolling πŸ“œ as I tried to optimize things further for speed. ⌚

It wasn’t a bad trip home, 🚘 although I didn’t like driving the Northway as I’ve gotten very sick of Expressway driving so I tend to avoid them. But it sure is fast taking the expressway. I drove down through the high peaks – I had no interest in stopping at all – and then took the wrong road back to Hammond Pond. πŸ˜• Ended up in Moria. When I hiked back to Hammond Pond I got eaten alive by horse flies and slipped in the mud and decided it was time to go home.

Called mom on the phone πŸ“ž to see about Sunday dinner 🍲 and I’ll probably go out there if the weather is good enough for a picnic. I also discussed what I should do next about the noise I’m hearing in the truck – she agrees with me that I should get it fixed before my next trip.

I took down camp β›Ί and all is packed and except for the hammock and the kayak. I am going to go for one more paddle on Jones Pond and then maybe check out the Bloomingdale Marsh. Then I’ll head down through the High Peaks πŸ—» and then down the Northway. With the Mauls closed β›” I expect traffic to be light on the expressway but I can always hop on US 9 at times if I’m bored.

On this day in 1985, U.S. Route 66 is officially removed from the United States Highway System. 🚧 You could no longer get you’re kicks on Route 66 because everybody was taking I-40 and I-44 through the heartland of America.

Water levels are high and mucky. Might come back tomorrow.

June 26, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Or is it morning? I think the clock flipped over at midnight. Partly cloudy and 59 degrees at the Jones Pond. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees.

Just got back from a midnight paddle on Jones Pond. 🚣 Nice evening, mild but not sticky. By the time I got off the lake though more clouds were pushing in. πŸ”₯ After a nice campfire I drowned the fire and made sure it was out cold before bed because it’s been so dry out.

It was a quiet day at work, πŸ’Ό a few small projects but I had to stay close to my phone and work laptop πŸ’» in case any projects came my way. It was a nine to five work day and I would be in deep shit πŸ’© if I was having fun in the woods while clocked in and not getting work done. 🎣 At five o’clock I rushed out to the lake to go fishing and forgot my life jacket. Later on in the evening fishing after dinner I brought my life jacket. The lake is pretty shallow and not that big but kids drown in kiddie pools 🏊 and it’s the law to have one on board.

Overnight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 56 degrees at 7pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Sunrise is 26 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 31 minutes of darkness, an increase of 29 seconds over last night.

The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Tomorrow I’m heading home. 🏑 Not planning on rushing home – I have all day to get home and plan to stop in Saranac Lake and maybe in the High Peaks if I can find easy parking πŸ…Ώ or any other nature preserve I see. Going to be a cloudy day tomorrow so I won’t have much sun for good pictures but I’m sure driving home the alternator will bring the battery bank πŸ”‹ to be fully restored. Sunday I’m going out to the folks house for dinner I think. 🍲

In four weeks on July 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299Β°) at 8:30 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 15 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then today. Beautiful day
